Athletes and Heroes - construction and evolution of Czech olympic medalist image

The diploma thesis "Athletes as heroes - construction and evolution of Czech olympic medalist image" deals with media construction of olympic Winter image and its following trasformation into national hero myth. It approaches the topic from the perspective of semiotic analysis. It informs about the key concepts of semiotics and media studies like visual communication, sign, code, myth, social construction of reality, representation and stereotype. These concepts are consequently used as tools for the analysis of photos (thein legends) and headlines in daily press. The text shows on the case of six olympic winners (between years 1998 - 2008) how Czech daily press dealt and built individual stories a basic archetypes. In its first part it offers basic theoretical frame serving to understand the hero image as the social construct. Athlete with his win attracts new - medial constructed - identity. In the second part text tries to analyse media contents that deal with athetes images immediate after their olympic victory. It arrives to following conclusions: media have a tendency to produce the stories od victory, that are gender unequal and stereotyped. And finally, text show us individual images, their basic signs and confrontation, that signifies very similar narrative pracices and zero progress in time.
The Imperfect Heroes of J.K. Rowling

This diploma thesis deals with the heroes of J.K. Rowling´s novels, including her Harry Potter fantasy series, her Cormoran Strike detective series and her adult novel The Casual Vacancy. The aim of the thesis is to describe the archetypes of the heroes appearing in the stories and also to depict the types of the trials these heroes have to pass on their journey. In the following part the thesis observes the predominant type of the archetypes and the trials with respect to changing literary genres. The practical part points out the similarities between all Rowling´s novels with the main focus on mother and father figures and their repetitive characteristic features.

This bachelor thesis focuses on children's media heroes. Semi-structured interviews with selected children from ages six to twelve from elementary school in Kardašova Řečice were used for the research. Twenty one children participated in the research were answering questions about favorite heroes, watching TV, reading books or playing computer games. The primary purpose of this thesis was to determine what media heroes children choose, for what reason and where the heroes come from. The secondary purpose are the topics arising from the interviews with children, media consumption by children in general, its possible risk, pertinent regulation by parents and so on.
Idea of the Hero in Modern Theatre

In my diploma theses I tried to defend my ideal of hero in my production. From my theater work I chose my adaptations of The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha by Miguel Cervantes, Bagpiper of Strakonice by Josef Kajetán Tyl, Secret of a rose based on the novels 1984 by George Orwell and Name of a rose by Umberto Eco, and my drama works reprezented by my adaptation of Icarus myth and drama based on the life of Jan Palach. For the purposes of my theses I used anthropological researches of Claude L?vi-Strauss and conclussions of David Lewis Williams.
Legends of mythology: Divison of mythology in Nordic, Celtic and Antique

The main topic of the bachelor thesis are the legends and myths of nordic, celtic and antique mythology while mainly focusing on the nordic and celtic one. In the first segment i am working on the differences in the deities, legends and rituals while in the second i am focusing on the influence of each mythology on the art and the selection of artist that worked with this theme. The last segment is description of my practical work. It is composed of three fiberboards, two larger (nordic and celtic mythology) and one smaller (antique mythology) with addition of few illustrations.
Elizabeth Gaskell´s Gothic Tales

This diploma thesis deals with the analysis of nine gothic tales by an English writer of the nineteenth century Elizabeth Gaskell. These gothic tales are compared with the first gothic novels and gothic literature in general. Their analysis is carried out on the basis of spaces, heroes and themes which appear in E. Gaskell´s gothic tales. The diploma thesis reveals in which aspects Gaskell´s tales are different from the first gothic novels and which new themes, heroes and spaces were introduced by E. Gaskell. An important part of the diploma thesis consists of a brief biography of Elizabeth Gaskell. The events which influenced Gaskell´s work are especially emphasized. The diploma thesis also mentions several other authors whose works inspired E. Gaskell in writing her gothic tales.
The Problems of Selfreflection of Czech Prose of the First Half of 20th Century

This work considers problems of self-reflection in Czech prose of the first half of 20th century. There are described in the first part of the work general signs of self-reflection and social situation influence over increase of self-reflection. The work next considers concept of narrator and his individual from different points of view. View of characters follows. In the last part the work considers concept of time and space, especially diffusion of level of fiction and level of narrator, thereinafter considers perception of characters and last but not least levels of narrative.
Problems of Self-Reflection in the Novel of 20th Century.

This diploma thesis deals with the problems of the self-reflection in the prose of the 20th century. At first there are described the techniques of the narration, which appeared in the 20th century. Then there are defined the general signs of the self-reflection and the influence of social situation on the increase of the self-reflection. In the next section the work involves the analysis of the novel Život a názory blahorodého pana Tristrama Shandyho. The conception of the self-reflection is defined on this piece. In the last part of the work the self-reflection is showed on Czech prose of the 20th century.
