The aim of the thesis is to explain the concept of equal pay, if society talks about equal pay at all, or rather if it talks about unequal pay. In order to understand the concept of equal remuneration, firstly it is necessary explain the definition of remuneration, its types, and the related systems of payment of individual remuneration. The concept of equal pay is based on fundamental principles such as the principle of equal treatment, the principle of fair pay and the principle of non-discrimination, which are always codified in legislation of the highest legal force. The thesis deals in detail with the legal regulation of equal pay, all at world, EU and domestic level. In contrast to global or EU legislation, national legislation is younger and less developed, yet it is given due attention. A thorough analysis can determine whether the legislation at the above levels is sufficient, applied and enforceable. The issue of equal pay or pay gap and the definition of equal work or work of equal value are also addressed by the Czech judiciary. The thesis provides key decisions that helps to develop the legal provisions. European legal regulation of the remuneration of women and men Abstract This thesis focuses on the legal regulation of the principle of equal pay in European law. Despite the fact that the priciples of equality of men and women are anchored in the international, regional and national laws, the actual fulfulment of the principle of equal pay in the European countries is not satisfactory. This thesis is trying to provide a systematic overview of the relevant legal regulation of the principle of equal pay on the international and European level. Within the respective legal systems, this thesis focuses on the particularity of the regulation, on the existence of controll and enforcing mechanism and on the actual aplication of the principle of equal pay through these mechanisms. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter defines the concepts essential for this thesis. In particular, it contains definitions of concepts of equality and discrimination. Furthermore, the concepts of sex, gender and diferences in remuneration are defined. The second chapter focuses on the legal regulation of equal pay as adopted by the UN. Equal Opportunities for Men and Women in Labur-Law Relationships

The dissertation deals with the provisions of law applicable to equal opportunities of women and men in labour-law relationships. In this context, it mainly focuses on employment laws; Act No. 198/2009 Coll. on equal treatment and on legal remedies against discrimination and on amendment of some other acts (the Discrimination Act); and other related laws and regulations applicable in this area. The dissertation is divided into nine main chapters. Its core is comprised of chapters 4 through 8, which contain a detailed analysis of the statutory provisions governing the equal opportunities of women and men in employment in Czech laws, EU laws, and international treaties. Chapters 1 through 3 offer a general introduction to the domain of equal opportunities, while chapter 9 summarises the conclusions and findings of the dissertation. The first chapter explains why the dissertation deals with equal opportunities of women and men in labour-law relationships, and highlights the importance of this issue in international law and in the EU's social policies.
