Artificial Intelligence in Science Fiction

Bakalářská práce je plavidlem, ve kterém čtenář putuje vývojem vědeckofantastické literatury, přičemž hlavním zaměřením této práce je problematika umělé inteligence (UI) a její interakce, vztahy s lidmi. Technologie umělé inteligence a robotiky se rychle rozvíjí a pomalu se stávají běžným fenoménem, i proto je poměrně příhodné analyzovat a komentovat četné příklady vztahů mezi lidmi a umělou inteligencí v SF literatuře, jelikož mohou stejně dobře připomínat situace ze světa reálného, které se mohou v blízké budoucnosti potencionálně stát skutečností. Práce se nejprve zabývá divadelní hrou R.U.R. od českého spisovatele Karla Čapka, přičemž v této části popisuje vznik slova robot, které bylo poprvé použito právě v této hře a zároveň má stále obrovský kulturně-společenský význam. Význam R.U.R. dále umocňuje fakt, že se se v díle, vůbec jako v jednom z prvních, objevují bytosti uměle vytvořené. Práce dále pokračuje obecným popisem tří literárních směrů spojených s SF literaturou, a to: Zlatý věk, Nová vlna a Kyberpunk. Každý literární proud je doprovázen jedním literárním dílem zaměřeným na tématiku UI. U každé knihy lze nalézt podrobný popis dějové linky, doprovázené popisem momentů, v nichž hrají roli interakce a vztahy mezi člověkem a umělou inteligencí, spojené s jejich následnou analýzou, komentářem a pohledem na tyto interakce a vztahy. Knihy jsou v práci analyzovány chronologicky, a to v tomto pořadí: I, Robot, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, a Neuromancer. Poslední kapitola se zabývá srovnáním výše uvedených literárních děl s reálnými příklady ze světa robotiky a umělé inteligence. Pevně věřím, že tato práce, poslouží jako inspirace pro její čtenáře, zejména pro odborníky z různých vědních oblastí, kteří mohou tuto práci využít jakožto inspiraci pro vlastní práci v oblasti týkající se vztahů a interakcí mezi UI a člověkem v SF literatuře či v reálném světě.

Depiction of British Society in Selected Novels of Agatha Christie

The Thesis explores how the British society is depicted in Agatha Christie's detective stories. The theoretical part introduces briefly the Golden Age of detective fiction and Christie's position within the genre. It also gives an outline of the social conditions between the Wars. The analysis is based on three country-house mysteries, the attention being paid to the classes, village and the social changes that took place in the inter-war and post-war period.

Pastoril novel: between the reality and fiction

The work focuses on the study of Spanish pastoral novels presenting their two fundamentally different aspects. On the one hand, the thesis describes the idealised world of shephards living in harmony with nature, singing about their unrequited love. On the other, the work points out, that these novels also include some realistic elements, corrupting the mentioned idealism. Jerónimo de Pasamonte's Autobiography in Its Literary Context

This thesis aims to present the military autobiography of Jerónimo de Pasamonte called Jerónimo de Pasamonte's Life and Suffering finished in the XVII th century. Firstly, the genre of autobiography and its specifics are discussed, subsequently autobiographies of the XVIth and XVIIth century, such as the picaresque novel, religious and military autobiographies, are mentioned. Pasamonte's autobiography itself is discussed both formally (its language, style and structure are defined) and thematically - issues such as captivity and picaresque features within the Life are brought up. We shall study also its intention and veracity. Discussion is held about the theory that Pasamonte is the author of the fake second part of Cervantes' Quijote. Along, other topics are raised: the alike fate of Cervantes and Pasamonte or Pasamonte's being ridiculed by Cervantes in his Quijote. The aim of this thesis is to present the work of Jerónimo de Pasamonte's Life and Suffering, compare it to other contemporary genres, point out its formal and thematical characteristics and parting from acquired analysis conclude what its contribution to literature and contemporary reader is.

The major theme of this thesis is {\clq}qCourtly and moralistic literature and Spanish aristocratic society of the Golden Age``. The goal is to portray european courtly-moral literature, which described aristocratic society of 16th and 17th century. Thesis is devided into six chapters, each presents one of the essential works of art which have influenced the behaviour of the society of the court and which have contributed to the mentality changes of the noble class. The reader thus gains not only a comprehensive picture of Spanish courtly literature and culture of the Golden Age, but of the Spanish courtly society as a whole.
