Small cats (subfamily Felinae) in Zoos in the Czech and Slovak Republic.
JAMBOROVÁ, Marcela
Felidae are an attractive group of carnivores for research and the general public. In the wild, they are threatened by habitat loss, persecution and hunting, and in some species by a reduction in genetic variability. Zoos play an important role in halting the process of extinction, specialised breeding programmes play a crucial role in saving endangered cat species. The thesis provides an up-to-date overview of the taxa of small cats kept in zoos in the Czech and Slovak Republic. By analysing breeding data from UCSZOO yearbooks from 2015-2022, the most reproductively successful species were the caracal (Caracal caracal), the Bengal cat (Prionailurus bengalensis euptilurus) and the margay (Leopardus wiedi). The most successful zoo in breeding small cats were Zoo Dv. Králové, Zoo Ohrada and Zoo Jihlava. The cooperation of member zoos with European zoos creates a functional unit in the breeding of felids themselves, ensuring geonetic variability, thus contributing to the continuous strengthening of captive populations of small cats.
Exotarium ZOO Brno
Kučera, Jiljí ; Wittmann, Maxmilian (referee) ; Šindlar, Jiljí (advisor)
The topic of the bachelor thesis is the design of a pavilion for the Australia - New Guinea exhibition in Brno Zoo. The building serves mainly as an exposition and home for exotic species of birds, small mammals and fish. The building should meet all the conditions of buildings for the public, working conditions for employees and animal welfare. The area under consideration is located in the premises of the Brno Zoo, in the northern part of the district of Bystrc. The construction site is located roughly in the middle of the zoo at the crossroads between the Tropical Pavilion and the African Village. The relatively sloping, irregular plot is accessible from the north and east sides by a campus road. The kangaroo enclosure is directly adjacent to the west side, while the bison and camel enclosures are located to the north, across the road. The resulting design consists of a two-storey building that follows the contour line of the site. It is a building composed of two regular masses of rectangular plan. The upper smaller mass is superimposed on the lower larger mass. The pavilion includes indoor and outdoor aviaries, terrariums, aquariums, staff facilities, animal facilities and food preparation. The facade of the Exotarium imitates the red rock typical of Australia. It is made up of an ETICS system to which a moulded polystyrene layer and a painted surface will be added. An extensive green roof with aviaries is proposed on the main building. The design includes a small plaza to provide shade for visitors. Two buildings are proposed within the square - refreshments and public toilets. The bachelor thesis is based on documents in the form of assignment, dwg drawing of the cadastral situation and architectural study from the course BGA036 - Architectural Atelier 5.
Chovatelský přínos lineárního popisu exteriéru teplokrevných hříbat
BLÁHOVÁ, Aneta
The bachelor thesis deals with the linear description of warmblood foals' exterior and its breeding value. The aim of this thesis was to provide an overview of the current knowledge regarding linear description and the latest information on the evaluation of warmblood horses. Another aim was to create a summary of the evaluation of warmblood foals using the linear description method, evaluate the correlation between selected traits of the linear description of the observed foals and their sires, and relate the linear descriptions of stallions and their offspring. A total of 11 traits of 1139 foals born between 2020 and 2023 were included in the evaluation, as well as the linear description of 22 traits of their fathers, which included 177 stallions of the Czech warmblood breed. For closer examination, only stallions with more than 23 offspring were selected. This criterion was met by 12 stallions. The average score for all traits of the linear description of the observed foal population was around 3. The score of 3 was also the most frequently given score for most traits. An exception was the evaluation of the head, where the mode was a score of 4. The score of 3 dominated in the evaluation of the hoof (89%), the stan-ce of the forelimbs (88%), the back (84%), the hind suspensory ligaments (79%), the croup (71%), and the stance of the hind limbs (69%). For other traits, the frequency of assigned scores was closer to a normal distribution. Correlation analysis showed that there is a low degree of dependency between a foal's head and the nobility of its father (r = 0.15), and that foals with a betterrated and more noble head have fathers with a higher score in the nobility trait. The results of the thesis compare the total foal population with the offspring of individual stallions. The outputs showed, for example, that foals from the stallion Cannon Reuvekamp's Z have a smaller and more noble head with an average score of 3.91 compared to the rest of the population. Foals from the stallion Heartbreak, who have a more open stance of the hind limbs with an average score of 2.76 compared to other foals. This data should be beneficial for breeders and provide useful information when selecting a suitable stallion for their mares.

This bachelor thesis deals with the breeding of the wild rabbit and its release into the wild and is based on an effort to reintroduce the wild rabbit into the Czech nature. In the first part it describes the history of the wild rabbit, its breeding in captivity and subsequent transfer to the wild. The next part contains the results of successful release and sustainability of the rabbit in the Boršov hunting ground.
Breeding and rearing of lizards (Varanidae, Teiidae) in zoos - analysis of distribution and trends
JURÁŇOVÁ, Adéla
This bachelor thesis deals with the census and comparison of bred and reared varanid and tejovid species in zoos around the world. The aim of the thesis is to record and compare the numbers of reared hatchlings, kept species and numbers of individuals with their threat level and origin of occurrence. The ZIMS database was used to map all individuals and species, and the IUCN Red List was used to assess the degree of endangerment and CITES category was determined by Species+. It was found that zoos kept mostly non-native and least concern species rather than endangered species. The exceptions were Australia, with the highest number of individuals and species of native varanids kept, and South America keeping native teiid species. Australia has not bred nor kept any tejovids and has fallen far behind North America and Europe, which have bred the most species of both varanids and tejovids. Species bred in zoos fell mainly into the category of species of least concern, with endangered varanid species bred mostly in Europe, where a critically endangered species also bred, and to a lesser extent in North America and Europe. Breeding teiid species were found only in Europe and North America and were only species of low concern.

Dvorský, Adam ; Búran, Martin (referee) ; Adámek, Martin (advisor)
The task of the work was to get familiar to the reader with the possibilities and conditions of edible insect breeding in the Czech Republic, focusing on a selected species of darkling beetle (Tenebrio molitor). Design optimization of breeding conditions for different stages of breeding, with the possibility of accelerating breeding. Another part of the work was to get acquainted with the properties of the microcontroller series Espressif ESP32 and its use in the areas of simple product management. From these identified conditions, a breeding station was designed and gradually implemented in the second half of the work, which was controlled by this microcontroller company Espressif ESP32. The work describes the proposed components for measuring and regulating breeding conditions with a focus on temperature, humidity, food and fluid dosing. The penultimate chapter mentions experimental measurements of regulated conditions with evaluation of measured data. The conclusion is the evaluation of the solution and its other possibilities.
Device for measurement and regulation of edible insect breeding conditions
Dvorský, Adam ; Búran, Martin (referee) ; Adámek, Martin (advisor)
This work focuses on the design and realization of a measuring and regulatory system for successful breeding of edible insects with a focus on the mealworm (Tenebrio molitor). For the correct setting of the system, the first part of the work is detected and described the general conditions of insect breeding. The description is mainly focused on the mealworm, its development and basic breeding conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.). This information is further used for the development of breeding equipment, the basic concept of which is further established at work. The device is controlled by espressif's ESP32 microcontroller. The work acquaints with its programming and the connection and programming of basic components for the proposed system. Experimental measurements verify the functionality of measurements and regulation in the breeding box. The regulation is accurate to tenths to hundredths of ° C.Last but not least, the design is compared with existing devices.
Management chovu ovcí plemene suffolk v malochovu
Buchtová, Nikola
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to describe the management of Suffolk sheep breeding in small-scale farming. The thesis describes all the essentials that are associated with sheep breeding on your own farm. It includes, first of all, the issue of reproduction, but also nutrition. The thesis includes practical results of reproductive indicators that were collected on a selected farm in the town of Šumperk from 2016 to 2022. The results concern the evaluation of reproductive indicators of the monitored breeding in ewes, where different success rates in pregnant stallions were recorded in individual years. Attention is also paid to the evaluation of reproductive indicators of the monitored breeding in rams, where a stagnant situation in the success rate of pregnancy from 2016 to 2020 was found. A slight downward trend was then observed. Subsequently, the reproductive indicators of the breed were evaluated, where the numbers of births, lambs reared and the number of losses were compared. Results vary from year to year.
