The bachelor’s thesis is focused on progressive turning tools. The beginning of the study deals with history and development of turning tolls. Next part deals with the tool geometry. The following description of the different tool materials, construction tools and distribution, analysis of major companies and their catalogs. At the end the procedure of the selection of the tool holder and indexable cutting insert is given.

This bachelor thesis analyzes wear occurrence at chosen tool inserts in the process of turning of a heat treated cylindrical workpiece. Inserts for turning have been chosen from the area of coated and non-coated cemented carbides and cermets with respect to the used type of workpiece material. The work further deals with the possibility of their use under cutting conditions that are set to the upper cutting limits from the recommended range, especially without cooling. To obtain detailed information, the conditions of the test are further modified. Then, the results are also evaluated from the point of view of costs, i.e. market prices of inserts for possible application in the manufacturing process.

Bachelor's thesis is elaborated in an bachelor's study program B2341 - Engineering, branch of Engineering Technology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Brno. Work is focused primarily on issues of cemented carbides cutting tools and their effective use during machining. The first chapter describes basic informations on distribution, labelling, raw materials, manufacture, properties of cemented carbides, etc., from literary sources. Other chapters are devoted to evalution and comparsion of cutting conditions for different types of tool materials from different manufactures.

The fully fashioned bachelor’s thesis within the frame of the bachelor‘s study B2339-00 at the Fakulty of mechanical engineering deals with subject cemented carbide tools. General infomation is characterized by literary production; e.g. division, characteristics and manufacturing. The particular examples of cutting conditions are worked up in the second part of this study followed by calculation of economic aspects in the proces of tooling. The information about materials, cutting conditions and prices of exchange cutter bit from cemented carbide are drawn from catalogues of Sandvik – Coromant company.
