UN Peacekeeping in the Early 1990s: Evaluation of the outcomes of second-generation operations with Chapter VII mandates

This Master's Thesis is devoted to the United Nations peacekeeping, particularly second- generation operations in the early 1990s and their evaluation. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the (lack of) success of the selected missions, which were the first examples of operations authorized under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations. The theoretical part focuses on the concept of peacekeeping itself, historical development, types of peace operations and literature review, as there are various criteria on how to evaluate peacekeeping missions. For the purpose of this thesis, the work examines three peace operations - the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR), the United Nations Missions in Somalia (UNOSOM I and UNOSOM II) and the United Nations Observer Mission in Liberia (UNOMIL). The case studies provide a brief overview of the conflict, the main roots of the conflict, a response from the international community, deployment of the mission and its evaluation according to the selected framework. Furthermore, the supplementary discussion regarding the development and situation in the country in the aftermath of the mission's withdrawal enriches the case study. The US approach towards Bosnia and Herzegovina in the context of the Dayton Peace Agreement

The Bosnian war that took place from 1992-1995 was one of the most cruel war conflict in modern history. There was engaged international alliance with pivotal role of United States in it. Despite the fact that the United States was quite reluctant to be significantly engaged in conflict, in the end it was just United States that was the most significant international participant as Americans persuaded all aggressors to sign Dayton Peace Agreement. This thesis analyzes the development of American diplomacy and its attitude towards situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BaH). The primary source of analyze will be declassified sources "National Security Documents" that are published in Clinton Digital Library. The aim of this thesis is to get to know the way how American diplomacy influenced the dynamics of conflict, how the US participated in it and how American diplomacy led international community and the parties of the conflict toward the end of the war - Dayton Accords. Reflection of National Identities in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Discussion of NATO Membership

Diploma thesis "Reflection of National Identities in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Discussion of NATO Membership" is a discourse analysis focusing on the socio-political environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the perspective of discussion over possible accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. The first part of the thesis begins by an overview of the history of NATO engagement in the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia, followed by a summary of current NATO relations with the countries of Western Balkans, specifically with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Special regard is given to national identities and their role in the conduct of the country's foreign policy. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to examining the current political debate. It seeks to understand how national identity shapes the discussion over the accession to the organisation. Specifically, through discourse analysis, it aims to identify the tools employed in the political debate and the impact it has on the overall political environment of the country.

The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse the progress of the post-war reconstruction and current democratic development in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this work, author focuses on the tehory of consociative democracy, which was introduced in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the enf of the war conflict. So the author addresses the queastion of the functionality of this model of democracy and analyses the main problems it has to face. The Dayton Peace Agreement will also be dismantled at work, as it was this that brought an end to the war conflict in the terriotry of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it was this end that triggered the implementation of consociational democracy.
