Kadlubiec, Szymon
The majority of the agriculturalrly cultivated ground in Beskydy and Podbeskydí is formed by permanent grasslands, which are located in less favoured areas (LFA), often in high slopes. The aim of this thesis was to describe the grazing development in the Beskydy area, the methods and procedures of grasslands maintenance and also the characteristics of pasture growth and to describe subsidy titles in grassland management in LFA. Grazing is a classic instrument in grassland management. In was spread in Beskydy between in 15th and 16th century by the migration of herders from Romania. Cattle breeding spread between 18th - 19th. Nowadays mostly extensive grazing is implemen-ted in Beskydy. Meadows and pastures in Beskydy have rich flora often protected by law. Restoration or regeneration of vegetation, fertilazing and liming may be applied where it is possible. In spring pastures and meadows are dragging. Harrowing and rol-ling are less frequent.

The thesis tries to capture not only the present state of folk medicine in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids, but also its recent history and possible future development. Attention is paid to the status of folk medicine and its reflection in local folklore. The methodological basis of the thesis is grounded in the methodology of historical and anthropological sciences and in the classical concept of ethnological fieldwork; with ethnographic interview as a data collection technique. The results of the fieldwork show that folk medicine is still a significant part of people's lives in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids and that folk healing methods and practices are still used by the population of the area. Although folk magic and invocation used for healing of both people and animals have largely been...

Ekologie rysa ostrovida (Lynx lynx) a vlka obecného (Canis lupus) v oblasti Západních Karpat a jejich význam v lesním ekosystému
Kutal, Miroslav
The abundance and population density of the Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) were studied during two winters 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 in the in Beskydy and Kysuce protected landscape areas in the West Carpathians in the Czech-Slovak borderline. A combination of camera trapping, photographic capture-mark-recapture (CMR) and simultaneously conducted snow tracking revealed 11 independent lynx in both seasons in the total area of 1500 km2 and overall population density of 0.7 lynx/100 km2. High population turnover of 54.5% was documented between the two winters, indicating a strong anthropogenic pressure at the edge of the West Carpathian population. The main prey of Eurasian lynx in winter was a roe deer (81%) and red deer (16%). The occurrence of wolves (Canis lupus) was considered to be sporadic and probably limited to only a few individuals. The nearest reproductive packs were documented at a distance of 10--50 km from the Czech border in the Slovak Carpathians.
Roots of Moravian Urban Structure
Mohelník, Ladislav ; Löw, Jiří (referee) ; Prokeš, Oldřich (referee) ; Hrabec, Josef (referee) ; Koutný, Jan (advisor)
The thesis has been written on the basis of main architectural concepts and their application in real life within a historical context investigation. Main architectural concepts are represented in a harmony of architectural composition that deals with relations among form, structure and space in the unique art work. Genius loci play very important role in the architectural creation - it represents a special and extra-ordinary urban locality and its architectural value in the historical, geographical and cultural context. The origin of Ostravice village within the historical frame concept of Moravia domain is the topic of this thesis. Other historical documents gave information about Bruneswerde as the Brno Castle. That means Brno Castle had to be founded not in Brno (as it has been consid-ered for many years) but it was located in Beskydy at Ostravice. The sacred city – Civitas Dei had been located in Bruneswerde region in early ages as the centre of European culture, education and spiritual life. Civitas Dei – divine Jerusalem in the transcription of St. Augustine's book De civitate Dei – is not only glorification of God and religious fantasy. It is also one of significant clues for recognition of historical architecture. The depiction of unknown settlement from the book of unde-fined origin is a superb testimony about extinct architectural works. They are legible from cadastral maps. Brno Castle - residence of nobility and power served shelter to St. Vojtěch, St. Prokop, St. Václav and St. Ludmila as it is obvious for the mentioned picture. Three major temples, three com-position axes symbolized by three towers on coins are in analogical relation to Brno triangle of four saints - the Saint family of Brno temples. Powerful ambitions of Brno City principals and clergy are inscribed into the urban structure in the way of composition relations which are legible to them who devoted themselves to the mystery of harmony. The absence of historical continuity affects personal attitudes and also identity of the whole community. The architecture truly reflects the past state of polis and it is eloquent even after its death. The architectural composition relations influence the natural environment for long time, longer than the architectural work existence. The geometric order of Renaissance Brno existence has not been in attention of architects so far. The features were discovered in characteristic paintings by Albrecht Durer. They are evidently secret works of the genius. A meaningful collaborator and follower in the extensive project was also his friend Jan Čert from Brno and lately from Vienna. His noble genealogy played a significant role in history of Silesia and Moravia for centuries. It is tendency to consider him as Austrian or even German architect. It is because of the fact that the genealogy tree of his noble family had roots in Moravia. It is supposed that Durer with Jan Čert´s support created the extraordinarily monumental architectural and urban works in Brno. A remarkable consensus in the urban composition of two squares and transition of traditional urban structure of Ostravice Civitas Dei into the modern Brno is also confirmed due to the identification of noble creators and owners, who were at the foundation, transformation and extinction of elements of the Moravian urban structure.
The density estimation of Large carnivores in the selected parts of West Carpathians and factors affecting their occurance
Kuruganti, Shaldayya
The study showed that density estimation of Eurasian lynx corresponds to 1.3 and 1.2 independent individuals per 100 km2 in the Jvorniky study area for the two time periods and 0.8 independent individuals per 100 km2 for Beskydy study area. The study failed to identify other large carnivores such a wolf (Canis lupus) and bear (Ursus arctos) from both Beskydy and Javorniky study areas. The estimated density of Lynx is low and their numbers should increase in future. There is enough prey base to support the existing population in the two study areas. The main factors effecting Lynx distribution are habitat fragmentation, poaching by humans, depleting the prey base by over hunting leading to starvation, vehicle collisions. Strict measures should be implemented to protect the species and long term study programmes must be started to get a comprehensive knowledge about the biology of species. Reintroductions must be carried over where there are suitable habitat for the survival and propagation of Lynx. The reason for not detecting wolf or bear might be due to the fact that the study areas are wide and the few migrating wolf or bear might be present outside my study area. Also there is lot of possibility to reintroduce wolf in my study area and I hope this will be done in future to ensure better biodiversity and to ensure wildlife conservation.
Comparison of vegetation on ski slopes with artificial or natural snow in CHKO Bílé Karpaty and CHKO Beskydy
KOCKOVÁ, Jitka
Vegetation cover of 24 ski slopes both with artificial and natural snow was studied; on each slope 5 phytocenological relevés measuring 4 x 4 metres were taken. A method of direct gradient analysis (RDA) was used to detect differences in composition of phytocenological reléves on the ski slopes with natural or artificial snow. However, no impact of use of artificial snow on vegetation was identified. During the winter season of 2009 and of 2010 samples of artificial and natural snow were taken for chemical analyses. The chemical composition differed significantly; artificial snow contained more NO3-, SO42- and Ca2+ ions and its pH was more alkaline in comparison with natural snow.
