Automatic delineation of ECG signals

This bachelor´s thesis deals with the delineation of ECG signals. The aim of this bachelor´s thesis is to become familiar with ECG delineation and realize one chosen delineation method in Matlab. The delineation algorithm was tested on a CSE database. The theoretical part of the work describes methods of QRS complex detection and ECG delineation.
Detection of QRS complex using leads transformation

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to become familiar with methods of detection of the QRS complex and the one chosen detection method realize by the Matlab. The detection of QRS is tested on a CSE database and the results are compared with other methods. The last part of this thesis is concerned with transformation leads methods between different lead systems.
ST-T segments analysis of ECG signals with focusing on T-wave alternance

The Cardiovascular diseases may evocated the high percentual risk of sudden cardiac death in whole world. In several western countries is the number of death higher then number of cancer death. In this time is used a lot of methods for prediction of sudden cardiac death with focus on ECG T-wave alternance. The aim of the theses was to do stronger relation and cooperation with Internal Cardiac Clinic of Faculty Hospital Brno Bohunice on the risk analysis of sudden cardiac death. Secondly, we met the methods used for detection and quantification of simulated TWA. Last but not least was necessary to find TWA detection methods improvement and process the data on real signals obtained from Faculty Hospital Brno Bohunice. First part of the Thesis is focused on summary of pathologic artifacts in ECG signal, which are important for sudden cardiac risk stratification. There are described further known detection and quantification methods for TWA analysis. An interesting part for clinical practice is analysis of TWA trend in time and looking for the best method, which is able to catch and track the short TWA trend changes. Second part describes the new methods improvements, which were tested with interesting outputs. Further, there was developed method for TWA presence statement probability evaluation.
Modern methods of QRS detection

This bachelor’s thesis deals with methods, which are used for processing of ECG signals, specifically for the detection of QRS complexes. The QRS detection is an essential part of every ECG analysis because it is a source of points with timing information, which are used for classification and measurement of other waves and intervals required for diagnostics. Some ways of QRS detection are described in this work and there is also a description of detector implemented in programming environment MATLAB, which is based on zero crossing counts. This QRS detector was then tested CSE database and signals from Holter examination.
Digital filtering of ECG signals

In the thesis there are presented frequency features of disturbing signals as baseline fluctuation, power network interference and myopotentialstion. Methods for removing these signále are discussed too. It iis used a principle of the Lynn’s linear filters, mostly the Lynn’s high pass and Lynn’s band pass filters. For real-time ECG signal filtration there is optimal to use the filter with continuously changing cut-off frequency according to a measured heart rate. Then there is described a simple dynamic linear Lynn's filter with a varying impulse response according to the heart rate.
Fast Digital filters for ECG Signals

In the thesis there are described the implementations of various types of filters to remove disturbing signals, which often degrade the ECG signal. In particular, it is a zero isoline fluctuations and power network interference. It is used a principle of the Lynn’s linear filters. The individual filters are designed in a recursive and non-recursive implementation. Then there is described a time-varying linear Lynn's filter for removing drift of zero isoline signal. The thesis also includes filters with minimized calculating time of response, by sampling rate conversion method for both interference types. In conclusion there is an experimental study of the filter implementation for ECG signal with false and real interferences.
Wavelet Filtering of ECG Signal

The thesis deals with possibilities of using wavelet transform in applications dealing with noise reduction, primarily in the field of ECG signals denoising. We assess the impact of the various filtration parameters setting as the thresholding wavelet coefficients method, thresholds level setting and the selection of decomposition and reconstruction filter banks.. Our results are compared with the results of linear filtering. The results of wavelet Wieners filtration with pilot estimation are described below. Mainly, we tested a combination of decomposition and reconstruction filter banks. All the filtration methods described here are tested on real ECG records with additive myopotential noise character and are implemented in the Matlab environment.
ECG noise influence on compression using SPIHT algorithm

The thesis provides an analysis of the ECG signal, focusing on the possible types of interference occuring in the signal. These types of interference are closely examined and their realization in the MATLAB programming environment is characterized. The SPIHT algorithm is introduced and the possibilities of its use are discussed. Futher, the application of this algorithm to the ECG signal containing individual types of interference generated by means of the designed interference generator is described and the impact of the SPIHT algorithm on the specific types of signal interference is analyzed. Finally, the obtained results are evaluated.

It describes the creation of a virtual cardio stimulator based on R-waves, designed in the LabVIEW application. Part of the thesis is the software realization of the model and the verification of its functionality.
A Wavelet-Based QRS-Complex Detection

This project investigates methods of construction the wavelet-based QRS-complex detector. QRS-complex detection is very important, because it helps automatically calculate heart rate and in some cases it is used for compression ECG signal. The design of QRS detector can be made with many methods, in this project were mentioned and consequently tested only a few variants. The principle of designed detector used a wavelet-based decomposition of the original ECG signal to several frequency-coded bands. These bands are consequently transformed to absolute values and with the help of the threshold value are marked positions of assumed QRS complexes. Then are these assumed positions from all bands compared between themselves. If the position is confirmed at least at one nearby band, then is this position marked as true QRS complex. To increase efficiency of designed detector, two modifications were additionally mentioned. The first one, using the envelope of the signal, had rather negative effect on detectors efficiency. The second modification, using combined signal from three pseudoorthogonal leads, had reversely very good effect on detectors efficiency. In the end, the designed detector and all its modifications were tested on signals from CSE library (exactly on leads II, V2 and V6).
