Privacy and propaganda: The iconography of the emperor Rudolf II
Zlatohlávková, Eliška
Many portraits were painted of Rudolf II during his lifetime, forming a significant component of Rudolfian art, however, they have not received sufficient art historical attention. They document—at times in a stylyzed manner—the transformation of Rudof´s appearance. However, their most important task was to demonstrate and make tangeable Rudolf´s authentic apperance to the world and to celebrate his magnanimity and personality. Thus, there are many portraits that represent Rudolf as a good emperor or a brilliant commander. It is difficult to find interconnections between the many portraits that were produced of Rudolf, however among them one may find some artworks that would become exemplars for other portraits of the emperor during his reign/lifetime/the end of the 16th and early 17th century.

Christ´s Agony in the Garden by the Master of the Hohenfurt Altar and the Master of the Wittingau Altar
FÍLOVÁ, Lenka
This work is an introduction to the theme of medieval painting. Besides the artistic point of view, it offers to deal with the matter from a wider angle. It reveals that in depth this issue touches not only art, but also history, theology and culture. It analyzes in detail two paintings of the same iconographic theme, Christ?s agony in the Garden. One of the paintings is by the Master of the Hohenfurt Altar and the other one by the Master of the Wittingau Altar. It intends to show on one hand the influence of the Cistercian spirituality on the painting by the Master of the Hohenfurt Altar and the influence, and on the other the influence of the Augustian Canons on the painting by the Master of the Wittingau Altar. Each chapter is completed by pedagogical suggestions related to the theme at hand. This provides a wide scale of specific activities from which teachers can draw or use them as a source of inspiration for their own preparation.

The main part is focused on the analysis of iconographic themes of the mural fresco decoration in the quarters of the castle. The thesis is divided into three main chapters. The first part is dedicated to the history of the castle with a view to the cultural historical profile of the castle holders. The second part is focused entirely on the mural painting decoration. At the end I'm trying to formulate other options of further research with a view to the frequency of the motives used in decoration paintings in mansions from the 17th century. The aim of this thesis was to draw conclusions about themes of frescoes in dependence on the date of their origin.

The iconography of the statues of Virtues and Depravities in Kuks
VODRÁŽKOVÁ, Marcela
The sculptures named "Virtues and Depravities", situated in the hospital area in Kuks, belong to the most acknowledged works by the Czech sculptor Matyáš Bernard Braun, a representative of the Baroque era. In the literature concerning this work of art, only little information has been published on the iconography of the sculptures. The aim of the Batchelor Work by Marcela Vodrážková is to find graphics which could have served as a pattern for Braun while making his unique set of sculptures.
