I have been fascinated by paper since my early childhood. It was a very important part of my life, it affected shaping my personality and a way of spending time. I wrote on paper, I drew on paper, I read about fictional worlds or important information on pieces of paper. Everything transformed into different waves, influences, insights, flowing into the windows of my soul, gradually influencing and filling it. Some of them stayed, some of them have faded, and others converted into new thoughts and ideas. These I most often put into words. And so, gradually, texts, stories and poems came into being, and they flowed through the huge amount of chaos like streaks of text. This installation is a visual representation of this situation.

Write a sentence, read it again, select the part that should be in italics, mark it with the mouse or by moving your fingers on the touch pad or keyboard (oopsies, one character off), repeat the marking (this time correctly, ugh), find the right button or use the appropriate keyboard shortcut, write another sentence, paragraph, chapter, essay, book... What happens if the internet crashes, autosaving fails, the version of the software is not up to date? Most of the commonly used text writing tools offer a lot of formatting options, thus directing attention away from the writing itself. This thesis explores their features, (inter)compatibility and user experience. Its goal is to create a specification of the writer.axdx tool which should be used as a text editor for projects within the community-software.axdx (an ecosystem of tools and methods serving communities). The goal of this tool is to bring the focus back to the writing itself, in a format that is not constrained by proprietary software and does not break when opened in another editor. To provide the ability to work with text according to one's own needs, which are otherwise defined by the needs or methods of the so-called power user. To have everything that is needed for writing and nothing that is not.
Paper as a Medium
PŘÍHODOVÁ, Nikola
The diploma thesis "Paper as a Medium - Not Every Tile Is a Roof Tile" consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part conducts survey of paper history and describes its making in Asia and Europe. It includes chaptures that deepen problematic of paper from the view of applied and independent arts. It mentions artists, who use mainly medium of paper: czech artists Eva Kmentová, Adriena Šimotová, Jiří Hynek Kocman, Jan Činčera and american-korean female artist Sun Young Kang. The practical part includes realization of conceptual art named "Not Every Tile Is a Roof Tile." It's the only one realization of many possible. The work is made of hand-made paper in papier-maché technique with a help of the roof tile. This concept is supported by big format drawings in frottage technique. The all artistic part is documented by photos that offer next possible solution.
Behind the Paper
Krejčová, Kristýna ; Svobodová, Adéla (referee) ; Kollarová, Denisa (advisor)
Behind the Paper in the form of installation and printed matter helps to look "behind the paper" - what is hidden in its unwritten sheet. It offers an excursion into how this material is viewed and tries to break through the myths and stereotypes that shape the view of it in the age of globalization, which, under the guise of obviousness, drives our society to alienation and ignorance. Shake with the indifference which we have toward things that surround us - the indifference with which we (do not)look at the paper, for example - can be the first step to the never-ending questions of "how it works". The cultural myths that have become a reality in our eyes have enveloped this medium and erased it from our field of vision. We perceive the A4 sheet with its dimensions of 210 by 297 mm, a pure white surface and its base is spruce wood as a fact. However, the mentioned paper features are a fact of the last century, which is a really short time compared to its two thousand years of existence. We take paper for granted. It is good to realize that we look at many other "things" with the same ignorance, and at the same time they have a fundamental influence on the functioning of our society.
