Drug Information Centre service analysis II. Author: Natália Čikovská Supervisor: PharmDr. Kateřina Malá, Ph.D. Consultant: PharmDr. Petra Thomson Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Charles University, Czech Republic Introduction: Drug Information Centre (DIC) of the Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Kralové was established in 1994 and is the only university-based DIC in the Czech Republic. DIC is providing expert information about drugs, such as answering medicines-related enquiries received from healthcare professionals. Objective: The objective of diploma thesis was to gather and analyze information about the informational service of LIC FAF UK a FN HK in 1994-2016 aimed for general characteristics of drug enquiries and professional drug information resources used for solving the enquiries. Methods: Detailed analysis of DIC activities was performed to compile suitable data. All enquiries from years between 1994 and 2016 were summarized into a database using Microsoft Excel software. General characteristics of the enquiries were analyzed, such an average number of enquiries per year or time needed for resolving one enquiry. Author: Barbora Chmelíková Supervisor: PharmDr. Kateřina Malá, Ph.D. Consultant: PharmDr. Petra Thomson Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Charles University, Czech Republic Introduction and aim of the thesis This study deals with the analysis of enquiries of the Drug Information Centre (DIC) of Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Charles University and University Hospital Hradec Králové. DIC have a unique role within provide clinical- pharmaceutical care in the provision of drug information. The aim of this study was the analysis of drug enquiries in 1994-2016 focusing on their urgency, type of enquiries and ATC groups. Methods The data analysed were collected from all recorded enquiries in the Excel database within 1994-2016. Therefore, it was necessary to transform some of the paper- recorded enquiries from 1994 to 2002 into the Excel database in which the enquiries data from 2003 to 2016 were already included. Today patients are more than ever informed about their disease and the available and appropriate treatment, due to the high volume of information that can be acquired through the Internet. The traditional role of pharmacists was the provision of medicines to the population. However, nowadays, this role has been changed so as to include other tasks, such as management of prescribed medicines, and promotion of health, since pharmacists can serve as a source of expertise knowledge to the customers. Due to the fact that there is no relevant research for the case of Greek patients, this pilot research could help to fill this gap, by trying to find out what kind of information patients want to know about medicines in several pharmacies in Greece.
