Krejsová, Aneta ; Janok, Jakub (referee) ; Sátora, Josef (advisor) ; Hradil, Dušan (advisor)
Bachelor’s thesis „Romany housing“ deals with the issue of underprivileged accomodation. This is a complex of four apartment buildings and one community center. It is located on the site in Brno-Maloměřice. The site is flat, it is surrounded by little terraced houses on one side and large prefabricated metal halls on the other side. Apartment buildings respond to the surroundings by creating transition between little houses and large halls - they have relatively large mass, but it is split by saw-tooth roof that creates illusion of terraced houses. Main idea of the project is layout variability - it reacts to various number of romany family members. Single apartement building has two storeys, community center has one story and basement. Supporting structure is made of aerated concrete blocks. The foundations are made of non-reinforced concrete, the roof is partly saw-tooth, partly flat. Bachelor’s thesis includes a model and a detail of recessed railing in reinforcedconcrete wall which carries the exterior staircase.

The practical part introduces specific community work of Cheiron T with local Romany minority in Tábor and the research. The main aim of my research is to find out how the Romany community in Tábor perceives activities of Cheiron T in relation to itself and how the Romany community reflects it at different levels. Other fractional aims are to find out what are the differences in perceiving activity of Cheiron T between representatives of Romany community who belong to initiation group and other inactive representatives of Romany community in Tábor and also what the community itself thinks they could do to change their unfavourable life situation. The practical part ends with presentation and interpretation of interviews of representatives of Romany community who I have held a conversation with. At the end of the thesis there is a discussion where I compare these interviews with my practical experience and the ideas I have found in literature.
Poverty and social exclusion: an ethical challenge for the Czech society
KOLÁŘOVÁ, Lucie
The thesis deals with the role of the state and society in their attitudes to poverty and social exclusion. The introductory part aims at characterising the phenomenon of poverty and social exclusion, and deals with the issue of how the society perceives poverty. It focuses on the concept of the culture of poverty, and attention is given to the need of solidarity, social justice and the social state. The following part of my thesis deals with the extent of poverty and social exclusion in the Czech Republic, as well as possibilities of a social safety net in the Czech Republic. It describes particular examples of the manifestation of social exclusion and poverty in the Czech society, especially in the sphere of housing, opportunities in the labour market and falling into destructive debts. It sheds light on the situation of Romanies as the worst affected population group. The current situation in the Czech Republic shows that the attitude of the society to poverty as a personal fault and failure, impedes mutual solidarity, and generates strategies connected with repression that fail to understand the causes of poverty. For this reason, they cannot be adequately efficient. The society should react to, consider and efficiently solve poverty-related problems. Inspiration may be found in Christian ethics and its concept of human dignity.
