IT application portfolio of a large construction company
Trnka, Petr ; Gála, Libor (advisor) ; Basl, Josef (referee)
The main goal of the thesis is to identify, describe and evaluate methods in support of a complex 3-step process of pre-construction, construction and post-construction by information technologies. This thesis finds an answer to a question regarding management of construction processes of a large construction company which uses one large, internally integrated ERP software. The thesis deals with the following assertions that either all processes, related to construction, can be managed within one voluminous ERP software, or that additional third-party applications have to be used and, furthermore, integrated into one coherent IT functional model. The theoretical part describes crucial terms in construction industry and informs the reader that the question is resolved in the environment of a selected large construction company Skanska a.s., which uses SAP R/3 as its main ERP system. Key business processes are defined in this part, too. The practical part thoroughly analyzes and evaluates the level of coverage of these identified processes by previously mentioned software or third-party applications. The thesis also clarifies IT background operations linked to managing both construction and non-construction processes and educates the reader with an integration logic within corresponding application portfolio.
