The effects of these conflicts are polarised communities, people filled with grief and hatred which has resulted in mutual mistrust hence, the cycle of revenge and continual violence. According to the Ghana Statistical Service (2000), chieftaincy is one of the major causes of conflict in informal institutions, especially in the northern regions of Ghana, leading to deaths and loss of property. The murder of the king of Dagbon, Ya-Na Yakobu Adani in the North of Ghana sparked off new clashes of the old aged conflict. The study aims to examine the implementation of post-conflict development and why the situation seems to be intractable, as well as suggest a lasting solution to the recurrent problem using the Dagbon chieftaincy conflict (in Yendi) as a case study. The research relied on primary and secondary data. For the primary source, respondents were purposively chosen and subsequently interviewed. Publications, books and journals on the conflict in Africa and the research area were the sources of secondary data. The study found out that, the main cause of the conflict is chieftaincy. Ownership of resources (like land), partisan politics, and various governments’ failure to find a lasting solution to the dispute contributed to the escalation of the conflict. The strategies to Manage the Conflict was government interventions which were legal, military and education. The strategies that were being implemented to address the conflicts were government and private sector driven. The government interventions were legal, military and education and the private sector indulged in the distribution of relief items, education and sensitisation of the people and cared for the injured. These interventions helped to calm down the conflict and saved several lives that would have been lost.
