Rohatec Special Regime Home
Molčanová, Viktorie ; Todorov, Petr (referee) ; Boleslavská, Yvona (advisor)
The assignment of the thesis is to design a special care facility/home. The project of this facility is a direct response to the tornado-damaged S-Centrum building in Hodonín. Preceding this assignment is a pre-diploma project, which addresses a new building from an urbanistic perspective - analyses, integration into the surrounding development, and connection with the planned forest park. The area is ideally located on the outskirts of the municipality along a road leading to the city of Hodonín. An added advantage is its proximity to the forest, where terrain and garden improvements are planned, creating a new forest park with a lookout point. Due to the orientation of the plot to the north, there is the possibility of sunlight reaching the residential and communal areas from almost all sides. The shape of the building resembles the letter U, thus appearing open towards the forest. A park, vegetable gardens, pétanque, and seating areas are proposed between the building and the forest, while at the eastern end, it connects with the planned forest park via a gate. The connection with the building is from Nové řádky street, where the existing access to the plot is located, and the main entrance to the building is also oriented towards this street. Due to the height regulations in the municipality’s zoning plan (maximum 3 floors or 2 floors + attic), 3 floors with a basement are proposed, which is utilized for underground parking. The main goal of the design was to strengthen the capacities for providing social services in the special care facility/home, create a quality environment for patients and employees, and provide maximum integration with the surrounding nature.
Center for seniors in Brno-Medlánky
Šešulková, Jana ; Klimecký, Martin (referee) ; Gerö, Jiří (advisor)
The task of the diploma thesis is to design a retirement home corresponding to the contemporary needs in Brno-Medlánky, which is based on the pre-diploma project of the urban structure design in the same locality. The site has a great potential for the development of the area, it allows for the future location of the missing functions that are missing in Brno-Medlánky, and thus to create an attractive location for quiet living with good transport links to the centre of Brno. The project of the retirement home seeks to create a quiet and attractive place for the elderly, where they can also take advantage of the activities offered in the vicinity, while not disturbing their surroundings. The site is located on the western border of the urban structure under consideration. It is bounded on the western side by the adjacent existing building, which is the office building of the software company Artin. On the north, south and east sides the area is bounded by a service road. The main access to the building is on the eastern side. This is mainly pedestrian access via the main entrance. This is oriented to the park with individual functions and is thus easily accessible, especially for the residents of the retirement home. The main guest parking area is located at the southern end of the site, with additional parking located at the main entrance. Car parking for staff and residents of the retirement home is proposed in the underground garage of the retirement home. The building is located in a predominantly green area, the aim of the work was to adapt the building as much as possible to its surroundings by designing biosolar roofs and getting the greenery as close as possible by using internal green courtyards. The greenery was also worked with inside the building, with atria created in parts with greenery and skylights that also bring natural light into the space. The design tries to respond to the surroundings and to the whole urban structure, and tries to make the whole site accessible to the public and thus exploit its potential.
Social Networks of Retirement Home Residents
ŽALIOVÁ, Lucie
This bachelor thesis, which deals with the social networks of retirement home residents, consists of a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is devoted to aging and related changes, health and social services for older adults with a focus on retirement homes, and social networks including social support. The practical part involves the research aimed at finding out what social networks the retirement home residents have. Two research questions were formulated based on the research aim: "What individuals are part of the social networks of retirement home residents?" and "How do retirement home residents maintain their social contacts?". A qualitative research strategy, a survey method, and a technique of semi-structured interview were chosen to carry out the practical part. Interviews were conducted with residents and caregivers in the selected retirement home. The results of the research highlight, among other things, the key role of older adults' social networks in fulfilling their psychosocial needs, providing help and support, and indicate an impact on their psyche. They emphasize that personal contact with their loved ones is irreplaceable for retirement home residents. The thesis will be provided to the facility where the research was conducted to serve as an informational resource on the social networks of its clients and provide suggestions for optimization in this area. It could also serve similar facilities as inspiration for supporting their clients in social interactions.
Subjective assessment of the quality of life of seniors in a retirement home
ČÍŽKOVÁ, Magda
The bachelor thesis deals with the subjective evaluation of the quality of life of seniors in a retirement home. This thesis consists of theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part focuses on the knowledge about old age and aging, where old age and aging itself, the needs of the elderly or changes in old age are defined. Furthermore, residential facilities for the elderly and the services provided therein are characterised. Quality of life and methods for measuring it are then defined. A qualitative research strategy is chosen for the practical part. The research was conducted using semi-structured interviews. These interviews comprised 18 questions and were conducted in a home for the elderly with 10 communication partners. Subsequently, the interviews were processed through verbatim transcription using pencil and paper techniques. They were then coded and 8 categories were created. The main aim of this study is to find out the subjective assessment of the quality of life of the elderly living in a retirement home. Furthermore, three sub-objectives were also set. The first one is to find out the satisfaction and inner feelings of the clients living in a retirement. The second sub-objective is to find out the satisfaction with the leisure activities provided in the retirement home. And the last sub-objective is to find out the satisfaction with the relationships in the retirement home. The results show that seniors are satisfied with their stay in the home for the elderly and appreciate the services and care they receive, mainly because they could not do without it. The results of my research can serve mainly as feedback for the retirement home in which the research was conducted. The retirement homes can also use this research as inspiration to improve certain services. This thesis can also serve to raise awareness about living in a retirement home.
Ageism in the context of social work
FÁBEROVÁ, Sára
The bachelor thesis focuses on ageism in the context of social work. The theoretical part defines issues related to ageism, social work, and social services for the elderly. The practical part is dedicated to the implementation of the research. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to analyze if and how social workers encounter ageism in the context of social work. The second aim is to determine whether there are any ageist stereotypes in the provision of social services. A qualitative research strategy was chosen for the research. Survey method and semi- structured interview techniques were used to collect data for the research. The collected data were processed using open coding method and carried out using a "pen-and-paper" technique. Individual categories were created and graphically represented through diagrams. The research sample consisted of eight social workers in retirement homes, selected through a purposive sampling method. Based on the research results, interviewed social workers have extensive experience with ageism in society. Within the provision of social services, no ageist attitudes were observed among the social workers. Stereotypical prejudices were not noted either, social workers stand by the fact that a person's character is not defined by age. The research results apply only to the research sample and cannot be generalized. However, they can serve as feedback for the institutions where the research was done. The results can also be used for the development of social work and the prevention of ageism in the provision of social services for various age groups.
Portugal elderly home
Keblovská, Lucie ; Wolf, Petr (referee) ; Dulenčín, Juraj (advisor)
The subject of this bachelor thesis is the design of a house for the elderly in Barreira, Portugal. The building is designed to accommodate vital elderly people who do not need round-the-clock nursing care and, in addition, the building offers the possibility of cultural and educational use for the public. The site in question is located on the outskirts of the town in a quiet neighbourhood of family houses with a connection to vehicular and public transport. It is also connected to a pedestrian road leading to the city centre. Access to the site is designed both on the western side, where it directly connects to the main road, and on the eastern side, where a secondary road runs along the site. The site slopes steeply to the east and the property is therefore largely set into the ground. The main idea of the design is "a house interspersed with nature". The three main materials - green steel , light coloured plaster and oak wood - are complemented in many places by plants and trees that are close to Portugal, such as olive trees, lavender, etc. The whole building is embedded in the ground so as not to appear massive from the street and this, among other things, achieves a moment of surprise when entering the building. At the main entrance, the building appears unobtrusive, enclosed and extends from one edge of the property to the other. From the lower road, however, it is possible to see the building in its 'full glory', because at that moment it opens out into the landscape and one can observe the action on the galleries. From the eastern path one can see the three floors and the garden between them. Life in the building is thus cut off from the main road and provides beautiful views. The building is designed to clearly distinguish between public, semi-public and private space. In the layout, emphasis is placed on ensuring privacy for the residents even though the building is open to the public. The U-shaped layout offers a great opportunity to place the client accommodation units at the foot of the building, where they are afforded privacy and quiet, with public spaces in the central part of the building for meeting and socialising. With a central entrance directly adjacent to the social spaces, the public does not have to walk through the building to reach these spaces, and it is the residential units that are located away from the main entrance that offer privacy and quiet. The courtyard between the residential tracts offers part outdoor seating, part herb garden and/or ornamental garden. It is also directly connected to ramps leading to a separate chapel building. The chapel has a rectangular plan and is set into the ground so that its roof is loosely connected to the surrounding terrain. The entire complex is designed to be wheelchair accessible, whether it is the entrance doors or interior doors, landscaping or evacuation
Meeting the needs of clients of the home for the elderly in leisure activities
BLAŽKOVÁ, Jana
The aim of the thesis is to find out what role leisure activities play in fulfilling the needs from the perspective of the residents of a home for the elderly. In the thesis I will build on my bachelor thesis, in which I described which needs of the elderly can be fulfilled through leisure activities and under which conditions. In the theoretical part of the thesis I will extend the findings from the bachelor thesis. In the research part of the thesis, I will investigate how their needs are met in leisure activities through interviews with selected clients of a specific home for the elderly.
