Funeral art in Prague 1850-1950

of the disertation thesis Vladislava Holzapfelová Funeral art in cemeteries in Prague 1850-1950 The thesis deals with the funeral art found in selected cemeteries in Prague during the period 1850-1950. It tries to show the progress of this branch of art from the historicist styles up to the sorela art. It describes the types of tomb stones, trends in art and activities of sculptors and architects who attended to the sepulcral orders. Beside those artists, there were also successful stonecutter workshops, whose production is found in high numbers in Prague's necropolises. The thesis also tries to explain the changes in reflection of the death in the society which came in this certain period like for example cremation or disinclining from the religion. Some chapters are also attended to the symbolical decoration of the graves or other sepulcral topics like funeral notices or titles on tomb stones.
