A Miracle or an Ugly Fall from an Olive tree? A Medieval Controversy over the Stigmata of Saint Francis of Assisi
Hlaváč, Stanislav ; Suchánek, Drahomír (advisor) ; Drška, Václav (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the medieval controversy over the stigmata of Francis of Assisi. The religious phenomenon of the stigmata is viewed from the point of view of the general development of the spirituality in the High Middle Ages. The work tries to respect the chronological development of the polemics and, accordingly, also focuses on the progress of the Franciscan reflection of the stigmata. One of the chapters is dedicated to the analysis of the origins of the Franciscan tradition of the founder's stigmata. Subsequently, the work describes the resistance against the cult of the stigmatized saint from the point of view of the Franciscan sources and papal bulls, defending the authenticity of the stigmata. The penultimate chapter is dedicated to the development of the Franciscan theology of the stigmata, which resulted in the exaltation of the founder and his order. On the grounds of this development, the stigmata became the subject of rivalry between the Franciscans and the Dominicans, as discussed in the last chapter.
Elias of Cortona: the Vicar of Saint Francis of Assisi and the Minister General of the Friars Minor
Hlaváč, Stanislav ; Suchánek, Drahomír (advisor) ; Drška, Václav (referee)
The bachelor thesis presents a biographical profile of the second Minister General of the Order of Friars Minor Elias of Cortona. In chronological order it recounts his life since joining the Franciscan Brotherhood to his death in 1253. The main emphasis is laid on the reflection of his tenure as a high official of the Order on the background of the overall development of the Franciscan movement in the first decades of the 13th century. A special chapter is a review of Elias' role in the construction of the basilica in Assisi and a description of his involvement in imperial service, which led to his excommunication. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide a comprehensive biographical profile and through comparison and criticism of various sources, gain such a depiction of Elias' life, that would be as close as possible to historical facts. For the elaboration of the topic both sources of external provenance and of franciscan provenance were used. Where possible, the selection of the sources is focused on the chronological proximity of the origin of the individual testimony to the described events.
Heavy-ion collisions: The study of elliptic flow of neutral mesons in Au+Au reaction at 800 A MeV
Pleskač, Radek ; Kugler, Andrej ; Tlustý, Pavel ; Wagner, Vladimír ; Hlaváč, S.
The combination of the photon spectrometer TAPS - an electromagnetic calorimeter with good energy, time and spatial resolution - and the charged particle-detecting KAOS Forward Wall (FW) offers the possibility to study azimuthal distribution of neutral mesons relative to the reaction plane. The experimental data from the Au+Au reaction at 800 MeV were analyzed. The reaction plane was determined on an event by event by event basis and angular distribution of ă.sup.o./sup. and .eta. mesons was reconstructed. The observed elliptic flow signal is negative for .eta. mesons, indicating a preferred emission perpendicular to the reaction plane. The elliptic flow for ă.sup.o./sup. mesons is significantly observed in peripheral Au+Au collisions only.
Electron-positron pair production in nuclear matter - first data from HADES

Study of hadron properties inside nuclear matter at normal and high temperatures and baryon densities represents one of important topics of the present nuclear research. Several models predict change of effective masses and widths of hadrons due to the chiral symmetry restoration at extreme conditions of the nuclear matter. Existing experimental data do not allow unambiguous conclusions with respect to medium modifications due to the limited invariant mass resolution and separation. To improve and extend the existing experimental evidence the new High Acceptance DiElectron Spectrometer HADES was build at GSI, Darmstadt.
