Possibilities of developing the cognitive abilities of seniors in a residential facility

This thesis deals with the possibilities of developing cognitive abilities in seniors in a residential facility. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the issue of senior age, which includes biological, mental and social changes. It includes a description of a residential facility for the elderly and a description of the specific facility where the practical part of this thesis was implemented. The next chapter is a characterization of selected cognitive abilities, followed by a chapter describing cognitive abilities affected by old age. The aim of the practical part, is to determine whether the chosen activities aimed at developing cognitive abilities have an impact on achieving higher scores in the ACE-R test. A quantitative research design has been chosen in this thesis, specifically the quasi-experimental method. The research involves the implementation of a pretest and posttest of the ACE-R, which was administered to the experimental and control groups. After the ACE-R pretest, a block of six intervention exercises were conducted with the experimental group to practice the cognitive abilities of the seniors.
