Cartographic Works for Children and Youth: State of Art and Possibilities of GIS Utilization

Abstract:: The aim of this paper is to present cartographic works for children and youth. The main object is the introduction to the problems of cartographic production for children and youth and the execution of value analysis in terms of cartography. The analysis focuses on the use of mapping language - character key and means of expresion, in this part is an efort to answer the question whether the cartographic works for children and youth are the real maps or rather an illustration. The assesment of selected product by their users - children continue the analasis. Another aim is to compare traditional methods of creating those works with the possibilities of modern computer cartography, three ways of making are demonstrated - by hand, using a graphic application and using cartographic application. Then the paper tries to assess the use of geographic and cartographic knowledge in products for children and youth, in this question the paper use knowledges gained in consultation with author from practise.

Thematic atlas of beerindustry in Czech Republic Abstract The main intention of this thesis is to make a thematic atlas of brewery in the Czech Republic. The maquette of atlas is add as a supplement. The search part contains a brief history of Czech brewery and the present state of it, with adumbration of future development. The most important Czech brew-houses are mentioned too. The second search part introduces another thematic atlas-books on our market. The methodical part describes projecting of the atlas and making of particular maps. Analysis of barrier-free accessibility of the centre of Prague using GIS Abstract The objective of this bachelor thesis is to compare and analyse by using GIS the urban area of Prague in point of view of accessibility with barrier-free transport. The first part of this work contains analysis of current situation of barrier-free accessibility in Prague. In the next part of this thesis is described the method of creating maps, which comes from interpolation of spatial point features. There are established areas not barrier-free accessible on the map. The map includes routing of all means of the public transportation as well as designation their terminals. Cartographic representation of the development of pupils' ideas about spatial layout and geography of the Czechia

The aim of this study is to analyze the ideas of students of various ages and residence about spatial layout and geography of the Czech Republic. The output is mainly maps that provide visual comparison of these concepts. The method of research is the survey which was carried out on four Czech schools. The beginning of the paper is devoted to the theory of mental maps, specification of hypotheses and the administration of the questionnaire. The analysis of the data is then divided into three parts. The main task of the first part involves the creation of so-called aggregate mental maps of a map of the Czechia (for each school separately). The second part examines the positioning accuracy of Prague on these maps. The last part of the research is to analyze preferences of students for their permanent housing. The conclusion of the study includes a summary evaluation of the results and provides suggestions for further research and possible use of this study.

Analysis of contents of teaching maps of czech geography textbooks and school atlases. Abstract The aim of this thesis is to define the method of calculating the content of maps and apply it to selected teaching maps and atlas maps. The first part tells something about the current state of the issue. Methodology is the second part in which maps are presented and the calculation of content and charge maps. In the chapter results are commented the contents of individual maps and the comparisons and evaluations are made. The finaly methodology can be helpfull for further analysis of maps. Analysis of the accessibility of elementary schools in the Czech Republic since 1961

Analysis of the accessibility of elementary schools in the Czech Republic since 1961 Abstract The aim of this paper is to analyze the development of accessibility to elementary schools in the Czech Republic since 1961 by the personal car transport using network analysis. In addition, the paper also evaluates the development to elementary schools by public transport. The first part summarizes the available literature about those issues. The second part presents the source data and analysis metodology. Most of the analysis is performed by GIS ArcGIS 9.3. The last part presents the analysis results. It was found that the accessibility of complete elementary schools has improved in the period and the accessibility of all elementary schools has deteriorated. This applies to the accessibility by personal car transport and by public transport.
Analysis of price, time and distance accessibility diferentitation in the Czech railroad system

Analysis of differences in price, time and distinct measures of accessibility for eské dráhy Abstract The main aim of this thesis is to resolve the issue of accessibility in the passenger rail network of eské dráhy in the Czech Republic. Secondary objectives are the analysis of distance, time availability, and price of passenger rail service. The main sources are the Railway Timetable 2009 and the geographic database Arc R 500. Basic tool for the processing is geographic information system (GIS) with extension Network Analyst. The main aim of the thesis is to provide a database with the values of distance, time availability and price. Secondary aims are to produce partial maps which present various types of accessibility. Part of the results are also the methodology for establishing different kinds of accessibility, the evaluation of methods used, and quality assessment models used in relation to the database and partial results of comparison with the literature.
