Immigration and Integration policy af Great Britain and Political Mobilization of Ethnic Minorities of Immigrant Origin in 2/2 of 20.century
Krupička, Lukáš ; Hnízdo, Bořivoj (advisor) ; Šánová, Lucie (referee)
Great Britain is one of the most important European immigration countries - as for number as well as diversity of newcomers who have come in the period after the end of the World War II. Imperial history of Britain, or more precisely, the existence of the Commonwealth (which in fact arose by transformation of empire) played a significant role in this process. Citizens of both old and new commonwealth countries were thanks to membership of their countries in Commonwealth logically a privileged group of applicants for living in Britain. They had very often good connections thanks to, for example, contacts with British colonial administration in their countries and also knowledge of English language was a great advantage for them in compare with other groups of migrants and facilitated them to integrate into the host society. However, it is important to mention that immigration of non white non-European immigrants was since the beginning seen with suspicion and immigration policy was to a great extent influenced by pragmatism. British politicians had to solve a dilemma: either to implement strict immigration controls on all Commonwealth or accept immigration from new Commonwealth countries as accessory effect of old immigration. They accepted the transformation of United Kingdom into multicultural society not...

Latečková, Barbora ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (advisor) ; Šánová, Lucie (referee)
Diploma thesis "Comparing Immigration and Integration Policies in Czech Republic and Germany with a focus on Vietnamese Community in Prague and Turkish Community in Berlin" deals with immigration policies in the Czech Republic and Germany while focusing on integration of the ethnic communities (Turks and Vietnamese) into the labour market. It also deals with the concept of multi-level governance and focusese on local migration policies in Berlin and Prague. It examines closely the migration of low-qualified workers and based on experience of both coutries it reflects on current policy of circular migration on the European level. Given past experiences the policy of circular migration is considered as problematic. Using migration theories and interdisciplinary approach to understand migration flows not only in both coutries, but also in the European union's level, proved to be fruitful and should further examined in future research.

Černá, Lucie ; Šánová, Lucie (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
Diploma thesis "Remittances in Mexico: Instrument for Poverty Reduction?" deals with the problem of remittances sent by Mexican migrants from USA to their families and their potential impact on poverty reduction. Remittances represent the second largest source of external finances for Mexico- right after revenues from oil exports. They even exceed incomes from tourism and foreign direct investments. Mexican government, together with migrant clubs in USA launched a program to promote more effective use of remittances. The aim of my thesis is to evaluate the impact of remittances on Mexican economy, concretely on poverty reduction. Firstly I will focus on Mexican migration trends in the context of Latin American and Caribbean region, because remittances are the most tangible demonstration of international labor migration. The second chapter addresses to remittances in general and in the next part I will focus on situation in Mexico in three partial periods: the beginning of 21. century, then I evaluate the circumstances after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and third period deals with the upcoming financial crisis and its impact on the flows of remittances. Last chapter involves evaluation of the impact of remittances on sending and receiving countries and Mexico and appraisal of successfulness of the...

Maleček, Evžen ; Šánová, Lucie (advisor) ; Krausz Hladká, Malvína (referee)
The purpose of the paper "The Matter of Cuban Migration" is to analyze the recent history of Cuba from the viewpoint of migration, in particular the period from 1950's to the present. The thesis aims to describe the historical development of Cuba under the rule of Fidel Castro and to depict his impact on Cuban migration and Cuban foreign relations from the time of Castro's accession to power to the present. The thesis consists of three sections. The introduction delineates the historical and political development of Cuban migration and its impact on the change of political relationships in recent decades. The second section describes the impact of Cuban migration on various countries and regions, in particular on the United States of America. The third section assesses the recent developments in Cuba and draws possible scenarios of future, especially with regard to the formation of domestic and foreign relations, focusing, above all, on the impact on key partners such as the USA, European Union and the Latin America. The thesis likewise offers several possible scenarios for Cuban migration and its possible development, which will be essential for the future of Cuba.

The purpose of this study is to examine migration flows in the Russian Far East. It defines regional characteristics, key migration flows, Russian migration policy specifics and interrelated geopolitical implications. Study is divided into three sections. The first two sections are both descriptive and annalistically oriented, focused on empirical dates interpretation. The third section is based on functional analysis of migration, a specific phenomenon with a potential to affect all sorts of related processes. The hypothesis is built upon the presumption that migration flows in the Russian Far East, namely the Far eastern emigration a Chinese immigration, their direct relation to the regional demographic crisis and their international character, are one of the determining aspects of the Russian migration policy, Sino - Russian relations in the Northeast Asian region, and Far eastern perspectives predictions. Securitization of Immigration and Multiculturalism: The Case Study of Germany
Nguyen, Van Anh ; Šánová, Lucie (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the process of securitization of immigration and multiculturalism within the framework of migration, immigration and integration policies focusing on the case of Germany. Using the migration-security nexus as a primary theoretical foundation, I argue that within the policies and legislations related to immigration, German governments ultimately perceive immigration as a threat at the level of state security as well as Germany's national identity. The first government I have selected for my analysis is the cabinet led by Gerhard Schröder (1998 - 2005) who challenged the romanticized perception of the German nation as a "nation of descent" by saying that "Germany is a country of immigration." Secondly, I focus on the chancellorship of Angela Merkel whose approach toward the Syrian asylum seekers in the context of the current migration crisis (9/2015 - 11/2016) has been called "Wilkommenskutlur" (or "Welcome culture"). Nonetheless, by studying the policies related to immigration as well as governments' discourses, I argue that in both cases, immigration and multiculturalism are indeed linked to security issues. Hence, immigrants are perceived as a threat to Germany's national security and its identity.
