Folklore group "Skejušan": past, present, perspectives. Case study of cultural strategy
Malinová, Irina ; Lendělová, Věra (advisor) ; Lemeškin, Ilja (referee) ; Otčenášek, Jaroslav (referee)
This thesis aims to analyze the forms and ways of presentation of the cultural heritage of the chosen ethnic group, Ruthenians, by introducing the Skejusan ensemble. The work has the form of a case study and deals with the ensemble including the characteristics of its repertoire - songs, national customs and traditions. The ensemble is important for its endeavour to preserve only the Ruthenian folklore in a conservative way (unlike other Ruthenian ensembles in the Czech Republic). In this way, the interpretation of folklore does not include only isolated songs, but takes into account also the original context, in which the songs had existed in the culture. The thesis contributes by its research and its conclusions to the discussion about the problems of Ruthenian national minority, tries to characterize the complicated national identity of the Ruthenians in the multicultural milieu of the Czech Republic, and defines also the influence of this milieu on the Ruthenian culture. The work also deals with the history of migration of relatively small group of so-called Skejus Ruthenians, it analyzes and clarifies the historic route of transmission of traditions and customs during their migration from Slovakia to Romania and their subsequent movement from Romania to Czech Lands. The work also compares...

Dřízalová, Alena ; Lemeškin, Ilja (advisor) ; Montvilaite-Sabaitiene, Geda (referee)
The present study will look at the qualitative dimensions of realization of epistemic and deontic modality in Lithuanian in comparison with Czech. Modality is the category by which speakers express attitudes towards the event contained in the proposition. Epistemic modality indicates the extent to which the speaker is committed to the truth of the proposition, deontic modality characterizes process expressed by predicate as necessary, enabled or intentional. Summary of lexical and gramamtical means of expression of modality is based on data obtained from Corpus of Contemporary Lithuanian language and Czech-Lithuanian Parallel corpus. Analysis of modal expressions of original Lithuanian fiction text and its translation to Czech follows.

The first chapter of the thesis presents Mary Zālīte's personality. The next chapter deals with sources of inspirational works. Here are the figures mentioned by name, that affected the author so much, that their legacy is in her work very noticeable. The following chapter examines and also analyzes the author's poetry, which has features in common with her drama. Another chapter has been focused on the Zālīte's drama, particularly the poetic drama, where the author's analysis in the form of plays and librettos found connection between, that were typical for the authors motives. These analyses were also helpful in the creation of the last chapter of the thesis, which explores the poetic drama M. Zālīte's Margaret. Based on a detailed analysis of the play Margaret was performed comparing the modern play with the Goethe's classic work Faust, which revealed a number of common elements but also innovations of the author.
The world without borders in S.T. Kondrotas work
Fantová, Martina ; Lemeškin, Ilja (advisor) ; Šeferis, Vaidas (referee)
Diploma work is focused on the work of a contemporary Lithuanian prose writer Saulius Tomas Kondrotas (1953). His tales and novels are placed into the Lithuanian and world literary context. The impact of magic realism and surrealism is confirmed; an inspiration is found in the work of other authors as F. M. Dostojevskij or W. Faulkner. Kondrotas is appreciated for individual style and topics common for his work, such as a phenomenon of death, detailed recitation, border crossing of common life perception, colourful description. The tales and especially the structure of novels are full of not only biblical, but also pagan and mythy motives.
The usage of participles and transgressives of the verbs "buti" (to be), "sakyti (to say) in contemporary texts. Their equivalents in Czech and Latvian languages
Durmanová, Lucie ; Lemeškin, Ilja (advisor) ; Marvan, Jiří (referee)
In my thesis "The usage of participles and transgressives of the verbs "bti" (to be), "sakyti" (to say) in contemporary texts. Their equivalents in Czech and Latvian languages" the object of my research is a grammatical phenomenon of indefinite verb forms in the narrow sense of the Lithuanian, Czech and Latvian languages. The subject matter is a treatise of various forms of participles and transgressives (we are not specifically concerned with infinitive in this thesis), chiefly in the Lithuanian language, but in relation to the Czech and Latvian language. Participles and transgressives are regarded as grammatical units, which are an integral part of a modern-day language; however the currency of their usage, in contrast to the past, is fading. We have focused on a summary of existing knowledge of participles and transgressives in the Lithuanian, Latvian and Czech language, pointing out the similarities and differences among them; on collection of actual language materials and the analysis of the usage in the Bibliographic database of Lithuanian newspaper articles (Lith. Bibliografin Lietuvos periodins spaudos straipsni baz; a collection of articles, published in Lithuanian printed media from 1994 to 2002). One of the objectives of my thesis was to compare equivalents of Lithuanian, Latvian and Czech forms,...
Scandinavian elements in the language of Old East Slavic legal codes
Štěříková, Hana ; Lemeškin, Ilja (advisor) ; Blažek, Václav (referee) ; Starý, Jiří (referee)
The doctoral thesis Scandinavian elements in the language of Old East Slavic legal codes consists of three main parts. The first of them puts the topic in connection with previous research and assorts it both according to chronology and ideologic influences, that have had a grave impact on scientific publications concerning the disputes over Varangians and the beginning of East-Slavic history. The lack of scientific objectivity shows not only in historical studies, but also in philological works, since linguistics played only a helping role in order to deliver proofs in favour of preferred theories. The second part of the thesis researches historiographic works of Swedish diplomat Petrus Petreius (early 17th century) and thus contributes to the polemic about who was the first normanist. The analysis shows that Petreius was a skillful compiler, but is not to be considered the first normanist. His works don't include any ideological links between Swedish politics towards Russia and Gothicism either. The third part of the thesis examines history and semantics of three Old East Slavic terms ябедник (yabednik), тиун (tiun) аnd гридь (gridʼ) and their derivatives. The author describes their occurence in historical sources and development in both morphology and semantics up to the present day and makes...
