Parent's coping mechanisms with the descendant's transsexualism
Gregorová, Pavlína ; Procházka, Ivo (referee) ; Weiss, Petr (advisor)
This thesis deals with parental coping with the transsexualism of their offspring. A questionnaire containing 66 items was created for this purpose. 16 parents of transsexual offspring participated in the research (12 mothers, 4 fathers). Just two offsprings were MtF, the others were FtM. 11 parents were contacted via their transsexual offspring, four parents were addressed at while attending a psychotherapeutic group for parents of transsexual offsprings and one parent filled in the questionnaire placed on the Internet. We found out that the most difficult situation for the parents was the moment their transsexual offsprings announced their transsexualism. A majority of the parents were in the state of shock and a majority also felt sorry. After that, the relation between the parents and their transsexual offspring improved. The parents evaluated the current relation between them and their transsexual offspring as sufficiently good. The person who helped the parents most to cope with the transsexuality of their offspring was his or her spouse, however in most of the cases nobody actually helped the parent. The majority of the parents managed to cope with the transsexuality of their offspring within one month. Data analysis showed that almost all parents, who participated in this research, have already...
Attitudes and riskiness of the sexual behaviour of high school students in Prague related to HIV/AIDS infection
Moravcová, Pavla ; Weiss, Petr (advisor) ; Staňková, Marie (referee) ; Procházka, Ivo (referee)
1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague Abstract of the dissertation thesis for the PhD course Medical psychology and psychopathology Attitudes and riskiness of the sexual behaviour of high school students in Prague related to HIV/AIDS infection Mgr. Pavla Moravcová, Prague Sept. 20th 2008 Objective: The purpose of the study is to map the components of attitudes, knowledge and behaviours related to the sexuality risky from the point of view of the HIV/AIDS infection in the students of last two years of grammar schools, specialized high schools and apprentice training centres (being the three basic types of Czech high school institutions) in Prague. Prague population is at highest risk of HIV/AIDS acquisition in the Czech Republic, adolescents being the most sexually active part of the population and the patterns of the young people's behaviour, as well as what they think and what they know needs to be monitored. Design and Method: The study is a quantitative survey of a sample of 500 male and 500 female students of the last two years of grammar schools, specialized high schools and apprentice training centres in Prague. The method of selection based on quotes was used, the quotes being: sex, type of school, and year of study. Results: A wide range of data about attitudes, knowledge and real...
Quality of life and life satisfaction of people living with HIV/AIDS in the Czech Republic
Urbánková, Olga ; Weiss, Petr (advisor) ; Bahbouh, Radvan (referee) ; Procházka, Ivo (referee)
This study explores aspects of quality of life (QoL) and how QoL is influenced by HIV/AIDS. Two years ago, in 2006, HIV/AIDS celebrated its 25th anniversary since it was discovered. Of these 25 years, the last ten years were dedicated to research on QoL. The rationale is that even though the emergence of antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has prolonged HIV positive people's lives, this alone is not sufficient to make one's life good. Consequently, it has become necessary to pay attention to the quality of this extended life. There has been, so far, only one research dedicated to QoL among HIV positive people in the Czech Republic. According to UNAIDS, about forty million people are infected with HIV globally. By the end of February 2008, the Czech Republic had 1081 reported cases; yet very little has been done in the area of research on QoL among Czechs who are HIV positive. One study done by Potribná in 2002, on QoL (mainly Health) after starting HAART, uncovered a strong need for research on the QoL among people living with HIV in the Czech Republic.
The Studies Order Processing in Selected Company
Tichá, Hana ; Ing. Vladimír Procházka. (referee) ; Jurová, Marie (advisor)
This bachelor’s thesis is dedicated to a study of order processing in selected company, concretely by Otis a.s, which deals with manufacturing and developing of escalators, Trav-O-lators and elevators. The thesis analyzes actual order processing in the company and specifies particular business processes. Consecutively it indicates new suggestions for improvement, which should shorten order’s processing in the company.

Event Timing Device Providing Subpicosecond Precision
Pánek, Petr ; Kodet, J. ; Procházka, I.
We are reporting on the latest experimental results achieved with an event timing device using a surface acoustic wave filter as a time interpolator. During the tests of the first version of the device, the noise of the filter excitation was identified as the dominant source of the measurement error. Therefore a new concept of the excitation with very low level of the noise energy was designed. This new solution led to considerable improvement of the device performance. It results from the experimental measurements that the single shot precision is repeatedly lower than 500 fs RMS when time marks generated synchronously with the time base are measured. When asynchronous time marks are split into two event timers and the resulting time difference is measured, the single shot precision is below 700 fs RMS per channel. In this case the measurement is affected not only by random errors, but also by non-linearity of the time interpolation. The temperature dependence is below 0.1 ps/K. Operating the device in a common laboratory environment without temperature stabilization, the stability TDEV better than 3 fs has been routinely achieved for range of averaging intervals from 10 s to several hours
