Living in Intensive Urban Structures
Zadražilová, Miroslava ; Urbášková, Hana (referee) ; Šimeček, Pavel (referee) ; Vitková, Lubica (referee) ; Menšíková, Naděžda (advisor)
As a result of changes in the society, such as the increasing mobility, increasing spatial demandindgness of inhabitants and the onset of digital technologies, the architects and urbanists have been searching for new ways of urban housing developments. One of these ways is densification, i.e. an intensive use of the urban space. An intensive urban structure uses up the potential of a place to its maximum, solves several issues simultaneously and is a functional hybrid, the home of potential suburbanizers and a place of social contacts. It comes from the efforts to solve the particular issue of an over-populated, collapsing city. The aim of the thesis is to show contemporary approaches to the issue of intensive urban structures and to map out both the built and unbuilt projects. The thesis creates a system of their categorization and taxonomy. There is always a mixture of functions in play from the functional perspective. One can distinguish five categories according to the spacial conception. These categories are as follows: multiplicity, porousness, hybridity, connectivity and verticality. The public and semi-public spaces thus move to the higher levels of the city, into the city level, urban balcony or the hybrid landscape. The built projects usually tend to be impulses, in relation to the original city, to develop and revitalize the devastated city areas, brownfields, even urban sprawls. Based on the findings of this thesis, diploma and pre-diploma project assignments have been created at the architecture department at FAST VUT in Brno and the approaches to the issue have been tested in the pedagogical process. The survey in the second part of the thesis looks for the answer to the question of whether the potential inhabitants of an intensive urban structure exist, and who these people might be.
Architectural Study of the Waterfront in Trencin
Andel, Branislav ; Urbášková, Hana (referee) ; Šindlar, Jiljí (advisor)
In 2005, city council approved the addition to the city of Trenčín town planning scheme, which deals with the modernization of the railway line. preparatory work is already underway related to the transhipment of the line, the process of modernization will be conducted for several years and will greatly affect the city center. There is the possibility of extending the center to the river. I saw a couple of designs and it is clear that the city sees an opportunity in the influx of investment and capital in the area, the possibility of new attractive commercial zone. I dealt with the reconstruction of the center and the quay in my last semester work entitled Trenčín 2020 - Quay and study center. Trenčín needs more cultural institutions or green instead of other commercial and administrative areas. Trencin is also missing theater building, performances in the present operate within the alternative scene in so called House of army. So i chose the space generated by moving the rail as the location for the new municipal theater and I decided to continue to work on this during the course of the diploma work. I propose theatre as part of the Center of Performing Arts (rather popular topic these days) and i added the alternative arena and a small concert hall on the both sides of theatre, creating a center which could become a decent space for cultural activities for important regional city. Instead of green which would be reduced on the riverbank I proposed green park located in front the cultural center (at the place where today lies vast parking and local train tracks - i dealt with this issue in my previous work), which creates a natural barrier against a relatively busy road in the center. So during the last semester I have already declared the location of the theatre , I have known about the possible access roads, perspectives, problems... Then I started to shape a mass of the building - inspired by the way of work by young Danish architects - I drew a rectangular block and began to form it under the influence of surrounding elements, or limits. So began the erecion of sharp "nose" over the river, which provides a view from the foyer and cafes located on the highest floor. Same nose is on the reverse side of the building facing the city's historic center and the castle, which helps me to extends the area needed for administrative support of theater. Because of the significant design of the foyer the building is extending towards the river and on both sides there are ramps which makes roof accesible for everyone to enjoy the view. At the end the building started to look like a ship stranded on the shore, with desire to reach the water again and sail into the unknown. The basic scheme of the building is divided into three main volumes: the foyer - scene - administrative and warehouse section. Enter the foyer from the river side, walk into the light, the stage is directly connected, and partly surrounded by storage. On the higher floors of the foyer is a music café with a view on the river on the other side of the theater scene are storage spaces are the actors' dressing rooms and administrative department.

The diploma thesis deals with the proposal of optimal functional and spatial use of the area for environmentally friendly tourism in Strachotín. The location is characterized by suitable natural conditions and land for quality vineyard management. That is why I propose a winery, a cider, a distillery, accommodation with a restaurant and a wellness area in the area. I elaborate the winery object and related accommodation in more detail. The most important object is the operation of the winery. The building dominates and interacts with the adjacent accommodation and restaurant building. Parts of the facade are designed as openwork ventilated facades that create the architectural character of the buildings.

Assignment of the master's thesis is, to design winery, with possibility of accommodation. The aim, is to create a comprehensive urban - architectural project of area, which is based on the use of local resources to support rural, economic and social development in the region of South Moravia. The area is situated on the outskirts of the village Strachotín, which is part of the site Novomlýnska nádrž. The urban concept should attract people, not just domestic, but also international clients, because of the proximity to Austria, Slovakia borders, and because of a good connection to the highway D2. Important was, to create a supporting function_WELLNESS, which complements the lack of capacity of the accommodation and offers services that are not around. A prerequisite, for immediate gripping the concept in the country, is also the existence of several hiking, biking, wine routes which pass through the area. The good thing is a close proximity to water, which I use in eco - energy concept, but also for recreation, relaxation purposes. The core project is the integration of new technologies in wine production, architecture, town planning, to create facilities, operating with minimum power consumption and minimal burden on nature. From the operational point of view, I separated the two ongoing operation of buildings-WELLNESS-located at the bottom of the plot, with access from Sklepní street, and linked with water. -WINERY- with accessing comunication from the existing path, with the possibility to access directly to winery by 3m wide drivable pavement and with beautiful views . Buildings are connected with educational wine route. Visually, the project is built on the use of excavated soil, formed in the mounds, which should symbolize "volumes exserted from the ground" with the metaphorical meaning of interface with nature. Urban and architectural design is in a harmony with the country - respects terrain conditions, using solar energy, and natural material solution that is designed in its crude form.

Stachová, Ilona ; Dýr, Petr (referee) ; Urbášková, Hana (advisor)
The project includes not only a winery, but also a hotel complex, including a rehabilitation center. The winery includes also a place for wine tasting and presentation, where visitors can learn not only the history of the surroundings, but also the history and the present of the wine production. The main goal of the project was to maximize the potential of the site. In my opinion, the potential lies especially in the beautiful views of Novomlýnská dam and the scenery of Pálava hils. The whole precinct is therefore situated on the southern outskirts of the site where the views are most beautiful and its shape follows the contour line. The buildings are designed to be environmentally friendly and energy efficient. The main material used is wood. The project makes use of heat pumps for heating, solar collectors for water heating, and meteoric water utilization…
