Fragment of Dobroslav Orel's Library in the National Museum Library

This bachelor thesis deals with a collection of books from the property of Dobroslav Orel, which is part of the collection of the National Museum Library. The aim of the bachelor thesis Fragment of the Library of Dobroslav Orel in the National Museum Library is to find and describe individual volumes that were identified on the basis of excerpts of the accession book of the National Museum Library. The work also includes a medallion of Dobroslav Orel (1870-1942), a Czech music scientist and teacher. A comprehensive analysis of the collection of donated volumes was preceded by a survey in the Archive of the National Museum and the Czech Museum of Music in order to obtain available historical and factual context related to the gift. The individual volumes are processed by the de visu method and the acquired knowledge is processed into a list, which, in addition to the bibliographic citation and description of the individual volumes, contains a description and documentation of provenance records.

Fragment of Přemysl Pitter's (1895-1976) Library in the National Museum Library

The main focus of this dissertation is detailed analysis of a particular fraction of library collection which belonged to an eminent Czech humanist, philantropist and evangelical lay preacher Přemysl Pitter and which is currently deposited in The Library of the National Museum in Prague. Přemysl Pitter (1895-1976) donated to the Museum 84 books in total. This analysis surveys the collection from the point of topics, language and chronological order and the same time researches provenance entries in the books and also includes information about Pitter's life and personal diary which is in possession of The National Pedagogical Museum and Library of J. A. Comenius. Significant part of the thesis concentrates on analysing a songbook manuscript of Czech national songs originated in the era of the Czech national revival which is the most remarkable surviving document of this discovery.

World digital libraries for accessing medieval manuscripts Abstract The aim of the thesis is to describe and compare 10 world digital libraries that make available medieval manuscripts. At the beginning of the work, the trends in accessing medieval manuscripts will be mapped. Attention will also be paid to the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) and the possibilities of its use in digital libraries focused on medieval manuscripts. Digital libraries will be examined and compared on the basis of a checklist. Questions will focus on bibliographic records formats for manuscripts and images, the use of IIIF, and whether individual digital libraries also act as aggregators. Book culture at the time of the Hussite Revolution (1419-1437)

This bachelor thesis summarizes the knowledge about the bookculture at the time of the Hussite Revolution (1419-1437) based on the study of existing literature. The first part concisely introduces the historical context, the second part is focused on the transformation of literary genre during the Hussite times and also on the material aspect of the book. The analytic second part is focused on the connection the material aspect of the book with the literary genre. The thesis is also based on the comparison of the group of specific codices particularly in their codicological and paleographic aspects.

Historical book collections of the National Library in Prague and their curators in 1918-1938

(English) This bachelor thesis deals with the Historical Collections of the National Library of the Czech Republic in the times of the First Czechoslovak Republic (1918-1938). The work deals with the department of manuscripts and early printed books and with its collections that were stored here during this period. It summarizes how the collections formed since the foundation of the Charles University, over the Jesuit library in the Clementinum to the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic. Another part of the work acquaints with the important personalities that influenced the historical collections of the National Library. Among them are Jaromír Borecký, Jan Emler, Anna Císařová-Kolářová, Flora Kleinschnitzová, Milada Paulová, Pavlína Hamanová and Emma Urbánková. Digital libraries of Czech county libraries

This diploma thesis deals with digital libraries of Czech regional libraries. Based on the available sources of the literature and the questionnaire survey, digital libraries, which are built by regional libraries, are introduced. At the beginning of the thesis is a terminological overview, together with digitization and digitization workflow itself. Then follows a description of the personal layout in digital libraries as well as various activities and standards of digital libraries. The thesis is supplemented by a description of the individual Czech digital libraries, which are built by regional libraries. The thesis also contains the results of a questionnaire survey among regional libraries and outlines the problem areas of regional digital libraries.

Censor and writer Jan Nepomuk Václav Zimmermann (1788-1836)

This work exposes, evaluates and summarises academic and professional career of Jan Nepomuk Vaclav Zimmermann (1788-1836), who worked as a scriptor and a censor. It reviews his censoring and book-examining skills across all fields of book culture. It investigates and evaluates whether contemporary critical testimonies depict Zimmermann's rather negative character rightfully and accurately or not. Zimmermann devoted his time to examining and censoring Czech books and also Hebrew books. As a scriptor at University library, he was responsible for collecting, archiving and organizing manuscripts into catalogues. These catalogues have been filed in National Library for many years. Palaeographical analysis of the catalogues will bring in new facts concerning Zimmermann's autorship. This thesis also presents a list of Zimmermann's work with its historical critical evaluation and compares it to the recent research.
