Visions for Krnov
Vašková, Vendula ; Víšková, Helena (referee) ; Galeová, Nicol (advisor)
City hall and library, two buildings influencing the daily life of the city. We perceive the town hall as the center of the city, either in a geographical or social sense. It should be a place alive and throbbing all day. The library, on the other hand, is a place of rest and study. I have combined these two opposites into one complementary proposed whole. The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to design a corner plot located in the center of Krnov. In the design, I work with two materials that complete the city block and create their own public courtyard. I build on the existing passages to the main square and complement the existing greenery. The concept contributes to the place of life, completes the city center and its overall expression.
Dance in Brno
Bala, Filip ; Maršíková, Hana (referee) ; Galeová, Nicol (advisor)
"Ideal contemporary dance theatre" is the research issue of the pre-diploma thesis, which was published in book form. The dissertation "Euphony | Movement | Space" deals with a prototype that also responds to the urban structure. Consequently, other issues have arisen from the specific solution. Not only because of the complexity of the given location but also because of the new vision of the functioning of the theatre world through the influence of autonomous technologies.

Contemporary dance theater faces the problems of insufficient infrastructure and unsuitable spaces for its performances. Classic theater buildings and other transformed spaces often do not meet the specific needs of dance art. The lack of new, specially designed spaces in the Czech Republic leads to the migration of dancers abroad or to Prague. In this work, I devoted myself to the analysis of the current issue of dance theater and at the same time I focused on the analysis of the solved plot. Based on these analyses, I developed a proposal for a new theater that reflects the identified problems, offers solutions and deviates from standard ideas about the theater. The goal of my proposal is to create an environment that will be in line with the requirements and needs of the dance theater today. When designing the theater, I took into account aesthetic, functional and technical aspects in order to create a space that will allow the presentation of dance performances in the best possible form. The result is a comprehensive theater design, which is based on thorough analysis and at the same time brings innovative solutions for dance theater today. The building should be integrated into the scale of the city of Brno and become an integral part of its life.
Dance in Brno

The aim of the diploma thesis was to design a theatre building for dancing, placed in the centre of Brno, in one part of Roosevelt Street in the park of Danuše Muzikářová. The design continues in the pre-diploma project with the topic Ideal: Dancing Theatre, which examines the history and present of the stage space for dance, different ways of use of the space, theatre technology, the economic demands of the sustainability of a cultural building and its comparison with foreign countries. Especially there are interviews with people that are somehow connected with contemporary dance. I mainly follow historical development and interviews. In my opinion, dancing theatre in the Czech Republic does not have as broad audience as it could have. That is why I design the centre for dance, where I try to give people an idea of modern dancing theatre in different ways. Because it is a new form of dancing performance I wanted to look at the design of the theatre from a different point of view than usual. In the theoretical part of my thesis, I concentrated on a Japanese tradition connected with a dancing performance and overall perception of space and architecture. From those theses, I chose principles which I used in the design of my diploma project.

Dance, as many understand and perceive it, is no longer the dance we know from theater stages. It is not strictly confined to the movements of ballet, the compositions of contemporary dance, or the steps of traditional dances. Dance has begun to evolve more towards a spiritual direction. It is the expressive movements of individuals who convey stories through their movements, performers who react to their surroundings with their gestures, and groups of dancers who connect with each other through their movements. This is the current form of dance that spills out of the classical theaters and into the streets, cultural centers, and parks. It goes where there is a sensitive and perceptive observer. Such performers go where they feel comfortable, where they can develop their movements, their thinking, and where they can be inspired. However, currently, there are not too many spaces that are conducive to such individuals. In Prague, there are a few theaters that focus on the current direction of dance development and on dancers moving in this direction. In Brno, there are significantly fewer such platforms for dance, and the facilities are inadequate. Therefore, it happens that dance leaves Brno for cities where it has more favorable conditions. A step towards improving the conditions for contemporary dancers is to give them their own spaces, spaces designated for their dance. To move away from classical theaters, where these individuals feel rather uncomfortable in their large spaces. The aim of this work is to present a new form of theater as a space for free dance and movement artists. Incorporating such a structure into the scale of the city of Brno and integrating it into the city's life.

Buzová, Magdaléna ; Kraus, David (referee) ; Galeová, Nicol (advisor)
The objective of the diploma thesis is the new building of Cancer Prevention Centre, first of its kind in the Czech Republic. The site is located on steep terrain of the south hillside of Žlutý kopec in Brno, which is a part of Masaryk Oncological Hospital complex. The aim of the Cancer Prevention Centre is to attract the citizens’ attention and invite them to undergo a preventive medical check-up with the potential to save hundreds of lives every year. The project takes this fact in consideration and strives to find ways leading not only towards establishing new relationship between the building and the public, but also towards connecting the city centre and nearby by residential area with the hospital complex. The three volumes of the buildings create a dynamic composition and therefore complete the characteristic development of Masaryk Oncological Centre. The main concept however revolves around the motive of instability, balance and journey which are all linked to tumour diseases.

This diploma project is a design for a Cancer Prevention Center and an extension of the Department of Radiation Oncology of the Masaryk Institute of Oncology in Brno. There are no adequate spatial reserves in the existing hospital campus, or inside its buildings. New technology and modernisation require increased capacity of the Masaryk Institute of Oncology and improvement of the area by new development offering services like cancer prevention or proton therapy facilities.
