Accountancy book of the town of Cheb 1396-1419

(in English) Municipal books are valuable historical sources of every town. They provide us an important information about history of the towns and thus they create a real picture of our ancestors' lives. This thesis focuses on the critical edition of the first main accountancy book of town of Cheb that captures the period from 1396 to 1419. The main accountancy book gives an overview of the yearly statement of municipal incomes and expenses and thus provides information about the economical situation of the town. In the thesis there are described the external features of the book, its content as well as the paleographic analysis. Some other Cheb municipal books from the same period are used for comparison. The edition has the editorial note and the critical apparatus. The appendix of pictures is also a part of the thesis. The first main accountancy book supplements many other still existing financial book of town Cheb.

1 Abstract The aim of the bachelor thesis is to compile a modern critical edition of Municipal book of Pribyslav city from the years 1479-1503, including an introduction describing the wider context of city development, ironmongery development in the region and a short presentation of the history of selected ironmongery hammers. The edition is preceded by the analysis of the Municipal book from a diplomatic and paleographic point of view, listed are also the name and local index.

The image of political nation in the oldest Czech chronicle This work focuses on the image of the political nation in the oldest Czech chronicle - Chronica Boemorum (The Chronicle of Czechs) by Cosmas, "the first Czech historian" [Robert Bartlett, University of St Andrews: "Bohemia made a spectacular debut in this respect with Cosmas of Prague, whose vivid prose style, gifts of powerful characterization and ability to convey action, and the occasional personal touches he allows (such as the yearning picture of his long-gone student days) make him not only a vital historical source for the Premyslid lands but also one of the great writers of the Middle Ages. He initiated a tradition which continued, with peaks and plateaux, throughout the Premyslid period, and this was important, for a native historical tradition was one of the marks of a Latin Christian society."] Cosmas' Chronicle (The Chronicle of Czechs) is part of the context of "national history". Borders and their delineating in medieval Central Europe

This doctoral thesis deals with the border as a geographical phenomenon in medieval Central Europe. It seeks to answer questions about what is a border, why and how it was created and how its understanding has developed. It deals with ways of delineating an area, boundary signs and rituals. It also explores the course and the concept of borders especially in Central Europe in the Middle Ages but also takes into account the situation of the both earlier and younger periods. It pays attention to the land border of Bohemia and Moravia but also to the borders within the Czech Lands in comparison with similar examples from Central Europe. The work is based on an evaluation of written and material sources concerning the border and combines methods and practices of multiple disciplines: it is based on the results of studies in archaeology, legal history, settlement history, historical geography, general history and auxiliary historical sciences.

Organization and equipment of the army in 15th century: parallel development in France, Burgundy and in the Central Europe The form of the military organization, providing of food supply, technical possibilities and conditions of transport and, of course, a character of armament had share in qualities of the army during the late Middle Ages as well as in the other eras. In this context were important contemporary technical possibilities of the weapon production, commerce of weapons and last but not least also the attitude to the progressively developed group of weapons - firearms. Purpose of this thesis is comparison of aforementioned themes context between the middle Europe with the emphasis on Bohemian lands and francophone west Europe, presented by the kingdom of France both with the duchy of Burgundy. Final aim of this effort is searching of different specifics in the studied regions together with the detection of identical trends and influences. Church of St. Judoc in Cheb in the middle Ages

The bachelor thesis deals with the history of the church of saint Judoc in Cheb. The thesis focuses mainly on the period of the Middle Ages, it gives information about the erection of the church and its funding and activities mainly in the 15th and 16th century. The extant sources and the regional literature are used for this period. Information about history of the church in modern times and the description of the church furnishings is gained from both German and Czech regional authors works. The history of the region and of the other sacral buildings in Cheb and the question of religious administration and of Cheb patriciate are also included in this thesis. The important part of the thesis is the edition of the sources for the medieval history of the church.

Methodology of Diplomacy of John of Bohemia

The subject of the thesis is to formulate the methodology of work with different types of sources for the study of diplomacy in the Middle Ages. In the first part, the author defines the essential terminology : medieval diplomacy and diplomatic deed. The basis of sources is divided into categories according to the types of documents and for each group, a procedure of analysis is determined. The sources are always defined, classified and the state of their preservation is assessed. On the basis of the aforsaid evaluation, a suitable methodology for the analysis of medieval diplomacy is apropriated to every category of sources. The last part of the thesis is dedicated to the study of the "staff of diplomacy", i.e. envoys, whose analysis allows to show the use of methodological approches to different sources for one scientific question.

Comparison of the Use of Historical Motives in the Monarchical Legitimacy in kingdoms of France and Bohemia in the Late Middle Ages

Václav Žůrek Comparison of the Use of Historical Motives in the Monarchical Legitimacy in Kingdoms of France and Bohemia in the Late Middle Ages Abstract Concepts of the past are most important parts in the formation of individual and collective identity. Medieval authors deliberately used the historical narratives as a means of enhancing the cohesion of respective social groups, usually the ruling strata of society. The doctoral thesis focuses on re-interpretations and exploitations of the past in France and Bohemia during the 14th century, on the role of historical narratives in the self-representation of the ruling dynasties Luxembourg and Valois, and on the perception of their own role in the history. Main question of the thesis is the social and literary context of the shaping of an imagination of the past: detailed comparison between the Latin and vernacular historiographical production at the royal courts in France and Bohemia bring also crucial observations as to the ways and means of cultural transfer between the respective centres of power.

Czech Luxembourges in french contemporary historiography

Petra JEDINÁKOVÁ, CZECH LUXEMBOURGES IN FRENCH CONTEMPORARY HISTORIOGRAPHY, Prague, Faculty of Philosophy, Charles University in Prague 2012. The aim of this thesis is to consider the relationship of Czech Luxembourg dynasty towards the French dynasty and the impact of their policies in western Europe. The work also focuses on different ways of perception of the Luxembourgs in both Czech and French environment and reasons for such observations. The Luxembourg dynasty, being originally an earl family of the French from Luxembourg, always had a strong relation towards France and its ruling dynasty which was based on mutual respect, friendship, similar opinions and also family bonds, the successors were educated at the French court. The two countries supported each other in fight andalso by mutual contact, visits and in terms of diplomacy. We have testimonies regarding these events thanks to medieval sources such as chronicles, annals, documents, correspondence and texts of authors from the French environment, who personally met Czech kings from the House of Luxembourg and therefore left us important insights into the situation of that time. John of Luxembourg has been perceived in as a model of knightly virtues and a brave fighter always loyal to the French king. In Bohemia, he was for centuries...

Early Modern Narrative Sources from Czech Towns The aim of the PhD thesis is to collect information about preserved narrative sources relating to Czech towns from the pre-White Mountain period and attempt to classify and put them into historical context by means of analysis and comparison. The creation of various historiographical documents bears witness to the considerable popularity of history during the 16th and 17th century. The thesis is mainly focused on chronicles, preserved mostly as manuscripts, dealing with the past of Czech towns. The research touches on personal memoir records of particular burghers tangentially. The reason is that most of them only refer to their families. Facts about other historiographical sources of literary character were studied only if they were related to the town, where the other source of pre-White Mountain period exists. The subject of the study was 24 towns` chronicles of the pre-White Mountain Period. The sources were analysed in detail and compared to other sources from the same period, like official or non-official sources from the Czech territory and abroad (mainly German area).
