Reflection of kashrut on the Passover holidays
Levinská, Lucie ; Nosek, Bedřich (advisor) ; Biernot, David (referee)
The master thesis "Reflection of kashrut over the Passover holidays" deals with fundamental questions regarding kashrut and endeavors to illustrate matters connected with dietary laws in the wider historical framework of Jewish religion, to explain basic principles of kashrut, and to explore the ethymology of specialized expressions unique to Jewish dietary law. Similarly it is explaining principles of Passover, for which I translated Rambam's writing Hilchot chametz u-matzah. Further it deals with Seder preparations and clarifies Passover customs and traditions. The last chapter shows the differences in customs between Ashkenazic and Shephardic communities. The information was sourced from both traditional and modern texts.

Dluhoš, Marek ; Nosek, Bedřich (advisor) ; Nakonečný, Milan (referee) ; Weis, Martin (referee)
Marek Dluhoš Kabalistická teurgie Cabalistic theurgy Cabalistic theurgy is a composition of the Hebrew word cabala (meaning 'tradition') and the Greek word theurgy (involving deities and processes, which transpire in God). The thesis is based on the most relevant research in this field in our region, which was undertaken in the time of pre-war Czechoslovakia and the beginning of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Dr. Jan Kefer (1906-1941) found the juncture between cabala and theurgy in the theory of sefirotic tree and the mutual influence between the worlds of spirit and matter.

Lyra's postila is significantly influenced by commentary of Rabbi Shlomo ben Yitzchak. In Postilla litteralis there is a minor influence of commentaries of David Kimchi (Radak), Abraham Ibn Ezra and Raymundus Martini as well. Also in the study the author examines the impact of Postilla litteralis on later scholars and existing numerous manuscripts of Lyra's works in Bohemian and Moravian lands.

Yemen Jews - Religion, Culture, Traditions and Customs
Nepalová, Ivana ; Nosek, Bedřich (advisor) ; Biernot, David (referee)
The Sages say "from three things our father's were delivered from Egypt: they did not change their names, their tongue (language) and there dress." Tradition records that the Yemenite Jewish community was first established by King Solomon over 3000 years ago. Yemenite Jewry is a window into Jewish people's past. Yemenites have many customs, traditions, foods, clothing, and language that clearly make them unique from the general divisions of world Jewry like Ashkenazic or Sephardic. For instance, Yemenites are the only members of world Jewish community who base their religious legal code on Moses Maimondes' opus magnum the Mishna Torah. Moreover, Maimonides, or more commonly know by his acronym the Rambam, with his logical and rational approach to the Bible is the adopted hero for Yemenite Jewry. On the other hand, Yemenite Jewry maintains many ancient superstitions which at first glance appear to contradict Rambam's approach. However, Yemenites have been able to strike a balance between their superstitions and Rambam's rationalism and to build a harmony in their lives. It this ability to harmonize seemingly unbridgeable differences which first attracted me to the study Yemenite Jewry.
