City Library of Přerov
Špidlová, Kateřina ; Havlíček, Tomáš (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
The goal of this thesis is a design of a public library in the historical part of the city of Přerov. The locality that’s beeing solved, so called Na Marku, is situated at the point where the three important pedestrian routes meet on the bank of the Bečva river. Attractivness of the place is well increased by the nearness of both the main squares, the river and the unique well-preserved underpass used in the past by the brewery. Every landscape, every city and place have their own memory. The locality „Na Marku“ is packed with memories that run back to the first settlements on the river bank, the construction of the city walls, and up to the recent reconstruction of the Tyrš bridge. Throughout the history the place was formed by the local inhabitans and their varoius activities. Those gave origin to historical and spatial layers that overlay and complement each other and have – in Přerov, as well as anywhere in the world – a huge influence on one’s identification with a familiar place. This is where the church used to be. This is the path that leads down to the river. This is where the lime-tree blossoms fall down like snow in summer. In my thesis I aim for truly understanding the “genius loci” and designing a building that would bring a new sense of life to this weary but memorable locality.

Multipurpose Town House on Křížová Street, Brno
Bohumel, Martin ; Havlíček, Tomáš (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
Mixed-use house at Křížová Street The project of mixed-use house located in the district of Old Brno is based on its location and its specific plot, situated between two street corners, at the end of the future pedestrian-only street, in direct contact with busy Mendel square. The house as a whole is enclosing eastern side of the street and with two breaks of the façade reacts to the gentle curve of the street on the other side. At the same time, these breaks of the façade acts as dividing elements, which help to create more subtle feeling of the otherwise long building. One of these breaks continues all the way through the house to the back and creates a cut, which allows a view to the inner courtyard, where a historical brick chimney is situated. This visual connection is at the same time also a metaphorical connection to the history of the location. The cut also serves as a main access for the residential areas in the upper floors and gives the inhabitants the opportunity to enter their homes through a dignified and representative space. Functionally, the house is divided into commercial spaces on the ground level, residential upper floors and parking in the basement.

European Commission and its role in forming collective identity in the EU
Havlíček, Tomáš ; Müller, Karel (advisor) ; Reschová, Jana (referee)
The work deals with the formation of a European public sphere through cultural policies and European collective identity. It starts with premise that in today's globalized world the function of nation-states is weak. I believe it is good option for European states to delegate some of its powers to an international organization such as the European Union. I believe that if the European public sphere were developed more it would helped to increase the competitiveness of EU in the economic, political and social sphere. My work tries to answer the question how this European public sphere could be formed. Therefore I focused on the European Commission which is the only one operational executive body of the EU which aims to promote European (supra-national) interests. So In my work I analyzed one of their program. This program became the ERASMUS program - a program for university student exchange. By analyzing the cultural policy and the ERASMUS program I was able to answer the question why it is important to create a European public sphere and if the European Commission wants to reach this objective.
