The concept of interpersonal relatinship in Cecilia Valdés o La Loma del Ángel by Cirilo Villaverde

(in English): The Master thesis depicts a concept of interpersonal relationships in a novel Cecilia Valdés by the Cuban writer Cirilo Villaverde. It describes author's life and circumstances which accompanied the origin of the novel. The thesis introduces a plot of the novel, analyses the main characters and their role in the novel. It deals with a theme of the novel as a genre in general and informs about Indian and Costumbrism novel as well. It follows historic events in Cuba at the time when the novel was issued. Knowledge of the historic events is necessary for comprehension of the novel in its broader sense. The thesis examines Cecilia Valdés from the point of a concept of interpersonal relationships, deals with relationships among black people, mulattoes and white people. It analyses a relationship between the main characters which is greatly influenced by different racial origin. The topic of slavery is introduced in connection with a plot of the novel. The Master thesis compares a novel Cecila Valdés with other significant Hispano- American novels which carry similar aspects, namely with Cumandá o un drama entre salvajes by Juan León Mera and Aves sin nido by Clorinda Matto de Turner. Pastoril novel: between the reality and fiction

The work focuses on the study of Spanish pastoral novels presenting their two fundamentally different aspects. On the one hand, the thesis describes the idealised world of shephards living in harmony with nature, singing about their unrequited love. On the other, the work points out, that these novels also include some realistic elements, corrupting the mentioned idealism. Fatefulness in the Art of Horacio Quiroga's Short Story

This master's thesis aims to compare Horacio Quiroga's short story with a general theory of the short story and to juxtapose it with Quiroga's own Ten Rules for the Perfect Storyteller. The first theoretical part looks at the short story from the point of view of literary history with a special focus on the differences between a short story and a novel. It goes on to give a short overview of the literary development in Latin America, outlining specific features of the given area and their influence on Horacio Quiroga's works. A separate chapter covers the Hispanic - American fantasy short story, its general principles and some examples of Horacio Quiroga's works. In the next chapter the paper refers to Quiroga's essays concerning theories of the short story, particularly Ten Rules for the Perfect Storyteller, aiming to introduce the theoretical concept of Quiroga's art of storytelling. Ten Rules for the Perfect Storyteller provides the paper with the background to interpret a number of selected Quiroga's short stories as well as to compare the theories of the short story between Horacio Quiroga and Edgar Allan Poe. Overseas Shipwrecks: Depictions in Spanish and Portuguese Sources from the 16th Century PhDr. Jaroslava Marešová Abstract This dissertation analyses Spanish and Portuguese shipwreck accounts of the 16th century. These accounts were written mainly by survivors of catastrophic shipwrecks on overseas voyages to America and India and therefore belong to the huge corpus of works written in the 16th century about exploring and conquering new territories. But unlike the most of the written sources of the period, these accounts does not celebrate the overseas enterprise, they bring a new, tragic, perspective and describe the dangers and misery of overseas voyages. Portuguese shipwrecks accounts were very popular among the readers of the 16th century and therefore they created a kind of tradition. They are often seen as a specific genre and represent an important topic of the Portuguese literature of the 16th century and are studied by many Portuguese literary scholars. Hispanoamerican Literary Tradition as Reflected in the Jorge Luis Borges' Works

The aim of the work is to present Argentinian literary tradition as reflected in the Jorge Luis Borges' essays and collections of poems from his early creative period (twentieth and thirtieth of 20th century). The corpus of the analyzed works is created by three collections of poems - Passion for Buenos Aires, Moon across the Way, San Martin Copybook and three books of essays - Evaristo Carriego, The Size of My Hope and The language of the Argentines. At the beginning, the text is focused on Argentinian (respectively on Hispanoamerican) cultural context at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Then, the text continues by analysis of six Borges' books mentioned above reflecting five most important Argentinian motives - pampa, gaucho, compadrito, Buenos Aires and its suburbs and dictator. The author notices different attitudes to Argentinian topic and concludes that Argentina symbolizes very important theme, which is influenced also by Borges' predecessors (e. g. Picaresque elements in the Exemplary Novels

The goal of this graduation's thesis was to focus on picaresque elements in The Exemplary Novels (Novelas ejemplares). The object of research were, therefore, ones of the most important works of the Spanish Golden Age - picaresque novels The Life of Lazarillo de Tormes (La vida de Lazarillo de Tormes) and Guzmán de Alfarache and their influence on Cervantes' literary works. We analyzed the picaresque elements, different variations of theirs' in the selected Exemplary Novels. More specifically, we dealt with the character of picaro, form of the works and a concept of realism in Alemán and Cervantes.
La Regenta: Ana Ozores' personality

The focus of this thesis lies on the outstanding Spanish realistic and naturalistic novel of the 19th century known as La Regenta by Leopoldo Alas "Clarin". The thesis is divided into two parts, the first is oriented towards historical and cultural context of the novel's origin, biography of the author and general introduction of the novel. The second part of the thesis concentrates on a main character Ana Ozores de Quintanar, mainly from psychological and sociological perspective. Sole chapter is then dedicated to comparison of novels La Regenta and Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert and its main heroines. The primary aim of the thesis is to study the main character Ana Ozores, her gradual formation and to analyze her relationship with other key characters of the novel and factors which brought heroine's demise in the end.
New generation of the wild Roberto Bolaňo

(in English): This bachelor's thesis discusses the generation which is pictured in Robert Bolaño's novel, The Savage Detectives. It deals with the historical, social and literary context of this generation, especially on the territory of Mexico in the 20th century. The thesis brings into this background information about infrarrealismo - its birth, publications and members, where it focuses in detail on Mario Santiago Papasquiaro and his works. Furthermore, it discusses Robert Bolaño's life, attitude towards literature and authorial style. In the practical part of this bachelor's thesis it is dealt with literary analysis of The Savage Detectives in the category of composition, characters, time, space and the narrator, in which it seeks the reflection of the Mexican society of that time.
Prague in a work of Clara Janés

The following bachelor's thesis deals with the work of Spanish author Clara Janés and it focuses on her works about Prague. The first part outlines her biography. The theoretical chapter deals with the definitions from the studies about the space in the literature. The following part discribes her visits to Prague and mentions also the circumstances of her meetings with Vladimír Holan, who represents an important figure in her works about this city. The main part consists of the analysises of her works, particulary the lyrical-memoir prose The Voice of Ophelia, the collection od poems Kampa and several seperate poems from other collections. The interpretetation has a thematological basis and it focuses on the author's relation to the city and to the Bohemia. It concers about the general question of genius loci, the literary topos of the city and the way of lyrical perception of a city by a stranger. The description of the composition and the language of analysed work is also included. The final chapter summarizes all the knowledge, and charaterizes the literary style of the author, while using the conclusions from the analysis. The world of the Amazonian magicians in the prose

This work will consist of an analysis of the book The Three Halves of Ino Moxo and other wizards of the Amazon (Tres mitades de Ino Moxo y otros brujos amazónicos) written by the Peruvian writer César Calvo. It will mainly focus on the author's attempt to understand the different and wrongfully underestimated spiritual world of the Amazonian Indians. Firstly, it will briefly introduce the author and mention the situation in Peruvian literature of the time. It will then look at the context in Latin American literature and will point out the common aspects of the book with novels of the jungle, with indigenist literature, and with the novels of magic realism and marvelous real. The core of the work will lie in the interpretation of the text. It will try to answer the question on the genre of the book and will then define its composition. Of particular importance will be the chapter on style, which will analyse in details the lyrical character of this prose. It will give evidence of the frequent use of poetic figures in the book by presenting examples thereof. It will look at the way of creating time and space.
