Surveillance, Technology and Artificial Intelligence

This master thesis deals with the topic of surveillance while focusing on its technological extensions. Particular focus will be primarily on the topic of artificial intelligence, which is currently one of the most important technologies in the field of computer science. My intention for this work will be to introduce artificial intelligence and to offer an insight into its application in surveillance studies and thus combine theoretical and technological thesis together. The thesis will be divided into five parts - the first part introduces research questions, methodology and division of the whole work, the second part will briefly introduce surveillance and its study, the third part will introduce artificial intelligence, its history, present and, above all, the outlook for the future, and the fourth part will link those two fields together.The last, fifth, part offers a reflection and answer to the question of what future awaits us in the proces of implementation of artificial intelligence in the field of surveillance.
Electronic surveillance of current marketing and consumption and its used strategies

In my dissertation I will deal with the issue of surveillance, which is applied in the area of marketing, consumption and in connection with that in advertising. I will concentrate mainly on the current age and therefore on the electronic surveillance, so the history of the surveillance studies will not be dealt with in this thesis in more detail. The first part of the thesis will be theoretical focusing on the main theses and theories of the current surveillance authors, especially the issues of electronic surveillance. The next part of this thesis will focus on surveillance and surveillance techniques in marketing and consumption. In this part I will also build on the theories of contemporary authors discussing the surveillance topic in the commercial sphere, but I will try to complement the theoretical introduction of the issue with the specific functioning of this phenomenon in practice. The main aim of this thesis will mainly be an overview and comprehensive illumination of surveillance and control issues focusing on the field of marketing and consumption and also mapping its operation in practice. A Child as an Active Internet User and the Sphere of Parental Surveillance

My diploma thesis deals with the phenomenon of the internet and parents' supervision, particularly how parents supervise their children who are the active users of the Internet. This paper is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is further divided into two sections - one that looks at supervision and mediating strategies and other one that analyses the internet. Both those theoretical chapters explore their subjects with relation to children as the agents. The practical part of my dissertation is a qualitative research in form of interviews, which helps to understand the phenomenon from the parents' position.
Surveillance and Marketing

This thesis looks into the key aspects of surveillance and marketing issues. It describes surveillance as a subject of studies, historical development in studies regarding surveillance and default approaches to the surveillance from the Surveillance Studies branch point of view. Main source of information for the thesis comes from the concept of surveillance from Michael Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Zygmunt Bauman, David Lyon and other experts. Practical part of the thesis aims to present a balanced look on the marketing as a sphere of surveillance, to describe development of surveillance in marketing and to outline eventual risk and consequences of contemporary surveillance in marketing.
Social Network as a Sphere of Surveillance

This diploma thesis focuses on social media phenomenon from a surveillance studies perspective. It perceives social media as a sphere, where many kinds of surveillance are realized. From those applied by partners to those driven by commercial interests. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part concentrates mainly on explanation of the connection between some important surveillance theories with the current surveillance practices on social media. The empirical part allows readers to understand how selected users of social media reflect surveillance and the loss of privacy associated with it.
Surveillance and Personal Data Protection

This diploma thesis deals with the surveillance and private data protection. The first part brings into the focus the theoretical definition of surveillance and the areas in which it is applied. Important role in this thesis has also it's historical development. For example there will be introduced the historical resolution according to David Lyon to premodern, modern and postmodern surveillance, Michel Foucault's view on the surveillance of the state over it's citizens or society of control of Gilles Deleuze. The second part of this thesis will move to concepts as personal data and their protection. I will define what privacy and personal data means and what is it's value to each of us. This thesis will continue with current legal aspects not only in the Czech Republic but within whole European union. As the next important topic will follow the new regulation of European Union dealing with personal data, so called GDPR that comes into the force next year and it's possible benefits for contemporary situation. The purpose of this thesis is to describe the key aspects of the surveillance in the contemporary social media reality. It aims to take note of the basic approaches and theories in the field of surveillance and tries to fully describe and understand the impact of the - so called social media in the (post) modern situation, using the position of the interdisciplinary field of Surveillance studies, and also the works of M. Foucault, G. Deleuze etc., with the emphasis put on the theoretical and practical aspects of surveillance and monitoring of the modern media reality. The thematization of the issue of surveillance and power in cinematography

The goal of this thesis The thematization of the issue of surveillance and power in cinematography is to introduce Michael Focault's theory of power, and add to it with other theories of surveillance with regard to the electronic age (Surveillance studies). Subsequently these theories and hypothesis are applied to qualitative analysis of chosen films with the theme of surveillance. Findings should show the cinematographic reflection of the issue of surveillance and power, de facto depiction of theory and practice of surveillance studies (emphasising the use of power in institutions like prison, hospital, school or working environment, which are heterotopic "other spaces") in live-action movies. The thesis shows development within the past 30 years which took place also due to the existence of internet, which is a kind of institution too. Hypothesis: it is obvious in films with surveillance theme that the concept of the use of power is evolving from "body as a machine" (M. Foucault) to "disappearing bodies" (D. Lyon). The choice of films is analysed only with regard to their depiction of surveillance, is mainly based on the list of movies with surveillance theme constructed by a German theorist D. Kammerer. Surveillance and Facebook

This diploma thesis focuses on surveillance studies on online platform Facebook. This famous social site became a tool for both fun and business lately. Facebook collects data that is then used for some other purposes which means there is some kind of a surveillance done. All the infomation that Facebook collects is given by the users themselves who voluntarily share their personal information. This kind of collected data is then for example used for commercial purposes such as media advertising with obvious profit expectations and so is used in crime prevention such as cyberbullying etc. Diploma thesis is divided into three sections. First describes surveillance history until nowadays, postmodern times. Second part clarifies the formation of the social site Facebook, it's user rules and privacy rules as well as practical examples of using collected data online. The last part of this thesis introduces some other favourite social sites and its functions as well as their surveillance possibilities and advertising potential.
