Contemporary Government in Northern Ireland: The application of Consociational democracy after 2022 elections
Klementová, Lucie ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Skutilová, Marie (referee)
The bachelor's thesis focuses on the government model in Northern Ireland, it deals in more detail with the issue of applying the consociational principle after the 2022 elections. This issue is introduced by the theoretical concept of consociational democracy, when is placed in a historical context, where this thesis describes the formation of the consociational principle of governance in Northern Ireland and then analyses the individual suspensions of the Northern Ireland Assembly, whose examination mainly observes the main characteristics of consociational democracy by Arend Lijphart. These theses aim to find answers to the research question of whether consociational democracy is a working implement for contemporary governance in Northern Ireland. Analysis of the results of the election and subsequent post-election negotiations show that the functionality of the electoral principle of governance is not optimal and leads Northern Ireland to a situation without a functional Northern Ireland Assembly, with a still-rising number of calls for a change in the formation of the government.
Comparison of national public policies of Roma integration in Central Europe
Tuzar, Vojtěch ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Říchová, Blanka (referee)
The societies of most European countries, especially those in Central Europe, are plagued by a high incidence of social and civic exclusion of Roma. The living situation of a significant part of the Roma community is a long-standing human rights challenge for modern welfare states. Since the collapse of the bipolar world, with the flowering of liberal values of equality, it has been assumed that Roma would be relatively swiftly integrated into mainstream society and that unjustified disparities in access to public services would be eliminated. Over the last thirty years, all states affected by significant levels of exclusion of the Roma minority have attempted to address this sensitive issue through a wide range of policies, but without any relevant and lasting impact. The present thesis examines national public policies in the field of Roma minority inclusion in Slovakia, Poland, and Czech Republic and Hungary in the current period. The main objective of the thesis is to compare the national integration policies of selected Central European countries by applying Actor-centred Institutionalism Theory and the A-A-A Model. The result of the scientific research is to present a comparative overview study that will generally reveal parallels and discrepancies in the states approach to Roma exclusion and...
Interpellation in Czech parliamentarism 2010-2021. Theoretical and analytical views
Czinege, Matěj ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Perottino, Michel (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to present the basic aspects of parliamentary questions (interpellations) and their actual use within Czech parliamentarism. Interpellations serve as a means of controlling the parliament, which is one of its most important functions. This function simply confirms the parliamentary system, thus fulfilling the purpose of parliamentarism. Interpellation is an essential element of the scrutiny function of parliaments. Its study not only sheds light on the functioning of parliamentarism, but also reveals the different levels of relations between the legislative and executive branches. It is one of the essential elements for understanding the functioning of a particular political system. The thesis focuses on the period between 2010 and 2021. This allows us to follow the development of the interpellation in the context of Czech parliamentarism over a longer period of time, without being a historical work. The thesis defines the basic characteristics of interpellations and focuses on their functions, which it then analyses on the basis of available data.

Changing patterns in electoral behaviour: comparative analysis of countries of Central and Eastern Europe
Ondruška, Michal ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Onufrák, Alexander (referee) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
The aim of this doctoral thesis is to provide new information concerning electoral behaviour in countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) during transformation period and in election terms following onward. Political scientists who studied electoral behaviour across countries of Central and Eastern Europe with new democracies established shortly after fall of authoritarian regimes have found several findings, unique for this area; one of them being specific type of electoral volatility, typical for political systems which follow longer periods of authoritarian regime. This electoral volatility correlates with high party system instability with new parties emerging every electoral term and old political parties vanishing from political competition. While political scientists studied relationship between electoral volatility and increasing number of political parties, party switching presents considerable threat to stability of party system in CEE. Therefore, this paper studies socio-economic, demographic, and psychologic factors determining specific type of volatile voter. The aim of this article is to provide further knowledge of how political systems of CEE struggle with party system instability, identify major problems and what factors are required to change if political systems are to achieve higher...
Media image of terrorist attacks in the Czech and French media: a comparative analysis
Hegerová, Lucie ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Říchová, Blanka (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with how six selected media report on the issue of terrorist attacks. Three Czech and three French media were included in the research in order to compare the method of information in these two countries. Specifically, MF Dnes, Hospodářské noviny, Právo, Le Figaro, Le Monde and Libération were examined. The method of informing was investigated on the example of three terrorist acts - attacks on trains in Madrid on March 11, 2004, Norwegian attacks in Oslo and on the island of Utøya on July 22. 2011 and the attack on Charlie Hebdo in Paris on January 7, 2015. The importance of depicting and framing terrorist attacks is also growing with the growing awareness of society and the fact that the reaction of the media and the public today is an indispensable part of the terrorist act, which the perpetrators themselves take into account when planning it. The author asks several questions concerning the thematic agenda of attacks and their framing. A combination of quantitative and qualitative content analysis methods was used to answer them, focusing on the frameworks used. The work will then be compared not only at the state level, but also between individual media and specific attacks. The result of the work are findings on the similarities and differences of the method of...
