Biblical motives in Czech pop music lyrics of 60s and 70s of the twentieth century

The thesis "Biblical motifs in Czech pop music of the 1960s and the 1970s of the twentieth century: The function and using of biblical motifs for pop music lyrics with the original biblical background and message" introduces the academic framework of the topic within the first chapter: the definition of the terms, the criteria and method for selecting the motifs and lyrics used. Then, the position of Czech pop music in the cultural and political context of the period is explained, which is a relevant part of the topic itself. Also an outline of the academic reflection of the related topic is referred to as well as the function of biblical motifs in other styles of music (rock, folk and underground music) with the emphasis on the projection of the stylistic differences into using these topics for the lyrics. The following four chapters are probes into the pop music and biblical motifs issue.They are meant as the reflection of the the inner dynamics of the genre as well: in the second and third chapters the selected biblical motifs (general motifs, prayers, biblicisms and biblical characters) are enlisted and the anylysis of their funcion and using for various lyrics is provided in comparison with their biblical message and introducing the original loci in the B ible. The Mimesis - Imitatio in the autentic Letters of Paul

Mimesis - Imitatio in the Authentic Letters of the Apostle Paul The first part of the thesis provides the reader with a concise overview of different semantic levels of the term mimesis as found in the ancient literature written in the Greek language. Furthermore, the author focuses her attention on the use of the concept of mimesis in the Old Testament, and the New Testament writings other than Paul's authentic letters. Such a survey prepares the ground for a detailed study of the concept of mimesis in the authentic letters written by the Apostle Paul. The idea of mimesis is present in Paul's authentic letters in five explicit passages (1 Tess 1:6-7; 1 Tess 2:14; 1 Cor 4:16; 1 Cor 11:1 a Phil 3:17). Each of the passages is studied within the whole context of the respective letter, written for a group living its own particular situation. The thesis compares different exegetical solutions from several researchers. Some of the researchers understand Paul's appeal to imitation as a call to be obedient to his teaching. Other experts are more inclined to understand this imitation as an authentic representation of the Cross in the life of Jesus' followers. The Mission of the Apostle Paul in Corinth in its Historical Context

"The Mission of the Apostle Paul in Corinth and Its Historical Background". This thesis aims to present the figure of the Apostle Paul on the basis of biblical and historical reports are available. It describes his life, conversion and preaching Christianity on his mission trips, especially in Corinth. It deals with the life of people at the time and the arrangement of the ancient society. In particular, attention is focused on the historical aspect but also related missionary activities in Corinth. It pays attention to the context of his relationship to Judaism and other pagan cultures. Also included is a clear theological analysis of his letters to Corinth. The work is complemented by maps, archeological excavations from Corinth, showing the layout of the city and dwelling, where early Christians gathered. Attention is also paid to the Christian community in Corinth and everyday problems solved in the letters of the Apostle Paul.

Sickness unto Death or for the Glory of God? A Biblical View of Sickness. The thesis deals with the theme of sickness in Biblical texts. It examines the causes presupposed by the Biblical author and studies various approaches to sickness present in Biblical texts. While being devoted especially to the Old Testament, the thesis also includes some examples from the New Testament which have common points with the Old Testament understanding or develop further the Old Testament mind. Part One of the thesis defines the extent of area under research. It defines the notion of sickness as well as presenting the description of various kinds of sicknes and terminological analysis. Part Two deals with sickness in the life of the people of God, making research into the causes of sickness and its existence on the sacred as well as profane levels. Part Three discusses sickness as it takes shape in human life. It does not avoid themes like: response to sickness, the question of healing, and the relation of sickness to death.

Analysis of the Biblical Trust in the World of Pentateuch

This Study elaborates the topic of Biblical Trust in the World of Pentateuch. This trust is understood as to rely in a purely subjective way on a word or instruction of some person. In case of God it frequently means a conviction that some humanly unrealizable promises are to be fulfilled. Such attitude secures to the trusting person merits before God. Rely on God is often understood in a confrontational way as opposite to the life of unbelievers. Trust requires courage to make leap in the dark. Meanwhile it is always right to trust in God, trust in a human person is in Pentateuch interpreted as fool. But if the respective man is the spokesman of God, the eventual mistrust is seen as an attack against God himself. In case of God's revelation trust becomes duty. If there is any doubt people can ask some sign of authenticity for the presented God's will. But if the will is known, eventual mistrust is interpreted as disobedience and follows a severe punishment. The same trust which belongs to God is required also for his prophet and for the Law proclaimed in the God's name. If somebody relies on himself in sense of exaggerated self-confidence which does not count on God, it is understood as a crime. In the same manner is valuated the trust directed towards the pagan divinities.

Biblical Images of the God's Liberating Love in the Acts of Man

AbstraktAbstraktAbstraktAbstrakt The Diploma thesis "Biblical Images of the God's Liberating Love in the Acts of Man" first reflects God's liberating love as a biblical theme in general (Introduction), then it proceeds to dealing with liberating action of God's love in biblical texts about five characters of Old Testament: Rebecca, Juda, Boaz, Jonathan and Abigail. Thesis contains one chapter devoted to each of these characters. Every character is briefly introduced first, selected texts are then subjected to an exegetic inquiry, which includes literal, contextual and philological analysis. The main part of every chapter follows, in which primary and biblical meaning of respective texts is discussed in regard to given character and to the theme of the thesis. God acts through particular people and His love for man manifests itself in particular acts of those who have been chosen for His plan. The thesis aims at showing the relevancy and merit of reading of Old Testament texts from the perspective considering the liberating God's love as a theme. Christ as Head and Source of Christian Marriage. Exegesis and theological relflection on Eph 5,21-33

The Abstract In her work the author deals with Christian marriage whose source and ideal is Christ in his relation to the Church, as it is presented in the paraenetical text of Eph 5:21-33. After the circumstances of the origin of the Letter has been presented, the author analyzes the paraenesis on the marriage itself applying the Historical and Literary Criticism, further she emphasizes its message and in this way points to the permanent relevance of the studied biblical text. This basic source is thereafter used as the point of departure for reflections on different fields as the theological anthropology, the sacramental theology and moral theology, and finds in them the affirmation of dignity and uniqueness of the marital bond and the inspiration for the fruitful life in marriage. Finally the consequences of the text for the spiritual theology are studied, for in the life of Christian spouses the spiritual life plays important role. The author emphasizes also the contribution of the biblical exegesis for development of theological research and points to the importance of interconnection of singular theological disciplines for the integrated vision of the studied reality.
