Helminth-host interactions on hormonal level
Lukesová, Hedvika ; Mikeš, Libor (advisor) ; Horák, Petr (referee)
Interactions between helminths and their hosts at the hormonal level result from their biochemical coevolution. Host hormones play an important role in the life of many helminths, and helminths are able to exploit them in some cases. For example, by expressing their own analogous hormone receptors that bind host hormones. Alternatively, by influencing the levels of host hormones, as certain hormonal environments may be (dis)advantageous for the helminths. This is the case, for example, of male mice infected with Taenia crassiceps, which undergo feminization as a result of infection. Some helminths can produce their own specific factors that influence host physiology, behaviour or appearance and may be analogs (orthologs) of host hormones. An example is the plerocercoid growth factor produced by Diphyllobothrium mansonoides, which behaves very much like a growth hormone in the host, although it differs in its primary structure. Some hormonal interactions can affect both helminth reproduction and the reproduction of their hosts. Examples of host-specific hormones that have been shown to be produced by helminths include, e.g., the ecdysteroid hormones - ecdysone and ecdysterone. A full understanding of the hormonal interactions between helminths and their hosts may lead us to find new treatments for...
Mesocestoides spp. - the spectrum of species, hosts, and life cycle modes
Zavadil, Ondřej ; Horák, Petr (advisor) ; Skála, Vladimír (referee)
Tapeworms of the genus Mesocestoides, which belong to the order Cyclophyllidea, are parasites of carnivorous vertebrates. Their larvalstages of tetrathyridiaare found in a wide range of tetrapod intermediate hosts. Within the genus, there is an anomalous species Mesocestoides corti, whose tetrathyridia reproduce in hosts by asexual longitudinal division. There is no mention of the possibility of such reproduction in other species. Thus, the laboratory strain of M. corti is widely used as a model organism that is well maintained under in vivo and in vitro conditions due to its asexual reproduction. Four other species are known to occur in the genus and are described by both morphological and molecular data. The remaining known species are named only on the basis of morphology. Adults are characterised by their rare morphology. This includes the ventromedian position of the genital atrium, the paired vitelline glands, and in gravid proglotids, developed paruterine organ, which contains eggs with oncospheres. The life cycle has not been yet explained, but it is assumed that the putative cycle involves three hosts. An alternative hypothesis considers the possibility of a two-host life cycle.
Heating system of the apartment building
Rosíková, Barbora ; Horák, Petr (referee) ; Vyhlídalová, Karolína (advisor)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to design a heating system for an apartment building. The thesis is divided into theoretical, computational and design parts. The theoretical part deals with the regulation of the heating system. The computational part deals with the actual design and method of heating the apartment building and hot water preparation. Three low-temperature gas boilers are chosen as the heat source and the source for hot water heating, which are connected in a cascade manner. The flats are connected to manifolds and headers located on each floor of the building in the corridor. Plate, designer and tubular heating elements are proposed in the building. The project section contains the graphic design of the project, i.e. the project documentation and finally the technical report is placed at the end.
Energy-saving family house in Zborovice
Kovář, Vilém ; Horák, Petr (referee) ; Počinková, Marcela (advisor)
The aim of my bachelor’s thesis is to design a detached energy efficient house for a four member family. The building is located in Zborovice village in a housing area that is yet to be constructed. It is a two-story building with a rectangular shaped floor plan and a flat roof. On the first floor is a living room connected with a kitchen, a bathroom, a toilet and a utility room. There is a balcony door in the living room that leads to a terrace on a garden. On the second floor there is a master bedroom with a walk-in closet, two rooms for children, an office, a bathroom and a toilet. Structural system of the building is masonry system designed from sand-lime blocks. Horizontal load-bearing structures and foundations are designed from cast-in-place reinforced concrete. The building is supplied with potable water from a water main and with electricity from an electric distribution system. Some electric energy will be produced by photovoltaic panels. Waste water will be discharged into a sanitary sewer. Rainwater will be collected into a harvesting tank and used for irrigation. Ventilation in the building is provided by a MVHR system. Heating system is designed as an underfloor heating powered by an air to water heat pump. On the Energy performance certificate is the building rated as A.

A Study of the Renovation of Selected Houses to Meet the Requirements of the Energy Performance Class “D” According to EPBD IV
Dokoupilová, Veronika ; Horák, Petr
Under the forthcoming EPBD IV, existing residential buildings should meet the criteria of the energy performance class D by 2033. This case study deals with the energy performance of two selected houses in the Czech Republic. These houses were built in 1960 and 2000 and they currently do not meet the future requirements. Measures regarding the building envelope and the heat source were proposed. With the help of the building energy performance certificates and the calculation using the hourly method, the 2033 requirements were achieved.
