Hydraulic verification of water flow
Adámek, Milan ; Julínek, Tomáš (referee) ; Duchan, David (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with a comprehensive hydraulic assessment of the Svitava River with an emphasis on nature-based flood control measures and watercourse revitalization. In the theoretical part, an overview of current approaches to watercourse revitalization and flood protection is given. The practical part focuses on a detailed analysis of water flow in a specific section of the Svitava River, which is performed using a computational tool such as HEC-RAS. On the basis of the obtained results, various options for stream revitalisation and flood protection are proposed and subsequently subjected to hydraulic assessment.
Design of a weir with a movable barrier structure on the Dyje river
Orságová, Adéla ; Duchan, David (referee) ; Julínek, Tomáš (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with a variant design of a movable damming structure on the Dyje River south of the town of Breclav (at river kilometre 19,609), which would enable flooding of the northern part of the Soutok polder. The thesis first describes the flooding issues, types of flood control structures and a description of the area of interest. Next, three variations of the dam structure are proposed: a fixed Jambor sill, a combination of Jambor sill with a flap gate, and a boulder slip. For each variant a hydrotechnical assessment and evaluation is carried out from different points of view. Based on the evaluation, the boulder slip was selected as the most suitable option. This option is the most efficient in terms of economics, technical, operational and also aesthetics. The boulder slide would still be able to provide inflow to the northern part of the Soutok polder while not disturbing the flow conditions in the stream and minimally interfering with the habitat.
Study of the flood protection measures
Žiaková, Tereza ; Duchan, David (referee) ; Dráb, Aleš (advisor)
The bachelor thesis focuses on the assessment of the channel capacity and the design of flood protection measures on the Kotojekda river from the mouth to the Morava River up to river kilometre 3,200. The thesis includes hydraulic calculations using a 1D model. As a result, the proposed flood protection measure is in the form of raising the dikes to the design flow of Q20 with a safety elevation of 40 cm. This design, in combination with the previously developed dry reservoir design, provides protection of the area up to Q100 and protection of the surrounding area from flooding.
Comparison of 1D and 3D Hydrodynamic Models in Designing a Hydraulic Object of a Dry Reservoir
Skokan, Jiří ; Dráb, Aleš ; Duchan, David
This article describes and compares computational and result differences in 1D and 3D hydrodynamic models, which are used for capacity assessment of flow control structures. The paper focuses on a considered dry retention reservoir located on the Kotojedka stream near the city of Kroměříž, Czech Republic. Based on project documentation, a detailed 1D steady hydrodynamic model using functions of Microsoft Excel and its native VBA language was created for the functional object. The parameters of the functional object were optimized based on the results of the 1D model. During the 1D analysis, some uncertainties occurred which cannot be addressed using standard or even more complex hydraulic analytical methods, such as formation and course of hydraulic jump, manifestation of overflow and bottom inlet submergence and water surface elevation profile in apron. Experimental physical model research was not undertaken in this case due to the high cost of the model relative to its lower significance compared to other, much larger water structures. Therefore a 3D steady hydrodynamic model could bring the required solution in this case and provide the basis for object parameters optimisation. A 3D model was created using Flow – 3D software. The results were compared on a series of QN flow rates from Q10 to Q10000, where QN represents the discharge with a repetition period of once in every N years.
Design of small reservoirs and flood protection
Pikna, Martin ; Kozák, Jan (referee) ; Duchan, David (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the design of the flood protection of the village Hrušky (Vyškov district). The hydraulic analysis of the water flow on the rivers Litava (river station km 19,460 - 20,928) and Rakovec (river station km 0,000 - 0,638) was done. The hydraulic analysis was performed on the Q5, Q20 and Q100 flows. For analysis was used a 2D numerical flow model in HEC-RAS 5.0.6. Based on results was designed a flood protection including a dry reservoir. The input data for the diploma thesis was the 2013 study „Litava II – přírodě blízká protipovodňová opatření a obnova přirozené hydromorfologie a retenční kapacity toku a nivy v úseku ř. km 16,0 (Újezd u Brna) až ř. km 24,0 (Slavkov u Brna)“. The diploma thesis was processed as a real project in the design office of Regioprojekt Brno, s.r.o.
River training of a small watercourse in the Morava River Basin
Filipi, Josef ; Duchan, David (referee) ; Uhmannová, Hana (advisor)
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate possible solutions of the river Svratka silting by the historical development from the 70s to the present. Part of this thesis is devoted to assessing the state of the watercourse in the area of interest, the assessment of flow capacity and design parameters that were used for the initial treatment course. The outcome of this thesis is to identify the causes of riverbed silting, creation of a conceptual design modification of the streambed and measures to limit the rate of canal silting. Custom design is supported by the hydrotechnical calculations.
River adaptation with Civil 3D and HEC-RAS
Filípková, Monika ; Julínek, Tomáš (referee) ; Duchan, David (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the evaluation of the current state of the selected section of the Morava river around the city of Olomouc and the subsequent modification and desing of the flood protection. In the first step, hydraulic flow verification using CIVIL 3D and HEC – RAS is performed. Based on the results of the 1D model, proposal river adaptation is then also executed with the aim to incerase the flow capacity and to reduce the water effusion.
River regulation and design of flood protection
Gřegoř, Adam ; Julínek, Tomáš (referee) ; Duchan, David (advisor)
The bachelor’s thesis deals with designing flood protection on the watercourse Velička (tributary of the river Bečva), which is situated in the area of Hranice municipality. The flow modelling was done as 1D surface water HEC-RAS model. Two options of flood protection were designed based on the size of the flood areas that occured during flood flows Q5, Q20 and Q100. The first option did not consider the usage of Lhotka dry pond. The second option considered the usage of Lhotka dry pond, which was designed in the study made by AgPOL s.r.o. firm to the north of Hranice and which transforms flood flows. The result of the bachelor’s thesis are maps of flood areas that occured during the flood flows Q5, Q20 and Q100 after the implementation of flood protection options. In conclusion, the suitability of the flood protection options is evaluated.
River management with regards to flood protection and revitalisation
Pastorková, Nikola ; Petrula, Lubomír (referee) ; Duchan, David (advisor)
The theme of this bachelor thesis is the hydraulic assessment of water flow capacity in the river kilometer 12,227 – 17,979, at flows Q5, Q20 and Q100 using 1D and 2D model in the program HEC-RAS 5.0.7. From the results of the overflows, flood protection measures have been proposed in two locations in the urban area and the revitalization of the stream has been also proposed. Furthermore, a hydraulic verification of the flood protection design took place.

Indrová, Gabriela ; Dráb, Aleš (referee) ; Duchan, David (advisor)
This thesis deals with the description of blue-green infrastructure and its elements. A number of good examples from Czech Republic and abroad are presented. It is followed by an introduction to the GIS software, where are described the basic tools and analyses, together with possible applications. The last part of this work deals with a selected location. In conclusion, for this location were created cartographic outputs describing the existing and planned MZI.
