Embedded Control of Non-Contacting Waveguide Sliding Short

This thesis deals with the design and implementation of a software control system for a non-contacting wave guide sliding short using a stepper motor. It proposes a system that supports the implementation of an arbitrary communication protocol, and can be used with a arbitrary stepper motor. The proposed design was implemented on a Texas Instruments AM243x Sitara microcontroller with the use of the FreeRTOS real-time operating system. The system supports communication using the EtherNet/IP industrial protocol and a custom textual serial protocol that uses UART. The system was tested and evaluated using position accuracy, position reproducibilty and reflected wave phase shift tests.
