Criminological aspects of euthanasia
Křížová, Tereza ; Sovová, Olga (advisor) ; Beranová, Andrea (referee)
Criminological aspects of euthanasia Abstract The subject of this thesis is the analysis of euthanasia in a criminological context. The thesis aims to present euthanasia in all its forms and to prove that despite the very different qualifications of these individual forms in the Czech criminal law, from the ethical and especially from the criminological point of view, these acts should not attract its attention if the defining features of euthanasia, such as the voluntary nature of this choice and full mental capacity for this decision, are observed. The thesis is divided into five chapters, with the first chapter defining the terms with which the thesis is concerned. The second chapter deals with euthanasia in the context of the Czech legal system. The third chapter introduces the theory of criminalization, which is then applied to euthanasia. The fourth chapter is devoted to the applicant for euthanasia and focuses on the reasons for the request to end one's own life; this consideration is made objective based on the quality-of-life theory. The final fifth chapter focuses on the euthanasia performer and the motivation for complying with the request despite the possible criminalization of such an act, even though it is often based on an imprecise distinction between acts and omissions or culpability. Key...

The aim of this thesis is to present the basic aspects related to the refusal of health services by the patient. The thesis deals with the patient's refusal of health services in the context of currently proposed treatments in the present, but also with the refusal of health services in the future in the form of so-called previously expressed wishes. The thesis points out some of the pitfalls that may arise in the case of refusal of health services by the patient and also proposes ways of proceeding in such situations in order to protect the rights of the patient as much as possible, but at the same time not to expose the health service provider to civil or perhaps even criminal liability. Chapter 1 introduces the concept of informed consent and the conditions for giving informed consent. I also focus on the patient's capacity to give informed consent. The assessment and analysis of these criteria is similarly applicable to the valid and effective expression of informed consent. For this reason, informed consent and non-consent are very closely related issues. The second chapter is devoted to informed consent, defining the form of informed consent and presenting cases where the patient cannot validly give informed consent. In the third chapter, I discuss previously expressed wishes, both their...
Death and palliative care in pre-hospital care
NOVOTNÝ, Jan
The bachelor thesis entitled Death and Palliative Care in Pre-hospital Care reports on the interaction of death per se, but also deaths of patients in the care of paramedics. Furthermore, the thesis intersects the medical field called palliative care, which serves as an important agent in the care of patients in the terminal phase of their existence. The subject of death is a entirely timeless topic that has been, is, and always will be with us. Four research objectives were defined: namely to find out the attitude of the paramedic towards the dying of patients in pre-hospital care, to find out how paramedics cope with deaths of patients in pre-hospital care, to find out what communication techniques are used by paramedics with dying patients and their relatives or with bystanders in pre-hospital care and the last research objective was to find out what knowledge paramedics have in palliative care during pre-hospital care. The first, theoretical part deals with the perception of death from the Middle Ages to the present, the discipline of Thanatology and its subgroups. The chapter touches on euthanasia and describes communication, palliative care and its specifics. The second, practical part used qualitative research by conducting semi-structured interviews to gather in-depth data. The interview was conducted with paramedics belonging to the regional centre of Jindřichův Hradec. With the help of open coding and subsequent categorization, the data was analyzed and interpreted using the "show one's cards" technique. According to the analysis, all paramedics perceived death as an inevitable, natural fact, with this group divided by the fact of armouring themselves over their practice. Another finding projected the validity of debriefing as an appropriate factor after a mentally challenging ambulance despatch. Regarding communication, paramedics were not sure about the suitability of the methods used, which stems from the absence of the seminars in question. Awareness of the term palliative care was generally sufficient, but insufficient for the subsequent specification of the therapy. There has been an inconvenience in working with mobile hospice care, or pain alleviation, which is not officially defined and operates on a referral basis.
The development of providing palliative and hospice care in the Czech Republic - the teoretical study
VĚCHTÍKOVÁ, Monika
The diploma thesis deals with the development of palliative and hospice care in the Czech Republic. The development of palliative care in the Czech Republic began about thirty years ago. The beginnings were difficult because there was no tradition of this kind of service in our country to build on. Hospice care, which started in the 1990ies, was first provided only in hospitals or sanatorium for long term sick patients. Later basic hospices were established and also home hospices began to expand. The aim of thediploma thesis was to map the komplete development of palliative care and also additional aspects of its existence and providing of palliative care in the Czech Republic, all based on accessible literky sources. Data analysis from (books, magazines and the archive) was used, opinions and different wals of providing care to people at the end oftheir lives were described. Based on the results of the diploma thesis the Czech Republic isabout ten years behindhand withthe care fori ll and dying people compared to other states. Public awareness about palliative and hospice care is increasing slowly. The biggest lack lies in pediatric palliative and hospice care. There are still not enough hospices for children, and especially home hospice care for pediatric patients. Furtherl acks are in the financing which is still not sufficient or satisfactory. Palliative education centres at the Faculties of Medicine are slowly starting to develop in the Czech Republic. Very delikte for experts and also for the public is the very much discussed topic of euthanasia. Some experts cannot agree on its legalisation. Despite all this the quality of palliative and hospice care has started to improve, but we still have a long way to go.
