Preparation and characterization of Ni-P coating on AZ91 cast magnesium alloy
Brescher, Roman ; Buchtík, Martin (referee) ; Wasserbauer, Jaromír (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with electroless deposition of nickel-phosphoric (Ni-P) coating on AZ91 magnesium alloy. At the beginning of the theoretical part, there is a summary of basic knowledge about magnesium alloys with focus on AZ91 alloy and the influence of alloying elements and impurities and its microstructure. The theoretical part continues with the discussion of the Ni-P coating, focusing on the composition of the bath, the influence and the effect of its individual components. Next, there is a comparison with galvanic nickeling. At the end of the theoretical part, the current research of the use of electroless deposition of Ni-P layer on AZ91 magnesium alloy is summarized. In the practical part, there is the preparation of the Ni-P coating on the AZ91 magnesium alloy, the observation the microstructure of the magnesium alloy and the Ni-P layer, and rate of deposition, the thickness, the microhardness and the composition of the coating was measured. The effect of its heat treatment was also observed. It has been found that it is possible to produce a high-quality Ni-P coating on an AZ91 magnesium alloy which has no visible defects or obvious undesirable interlayers, however the heat treatment of the coating causes its cracking. To determine the corrosion resistance, a potentiodynamic measurement was performed, resulting in the finding that the Ni-P coating without heat treatment was a suitable corrosion protection. However, after heat treatment, the corrosion resistance due to cracking of the surface deteriorated to a level of bare AZ91 alloy.
Surface pre-treatment of structural aluminum alloys for bonded joints
Pikner, Jan ; Doskočil, Leoš (referee) ; Wasserbauer, Jaromír (advisor)
This thesis deals with pre-treatment of surface of aluminium alloys. The theoretical part focuses on the properties of aluminium and its alloys, on methods of surface treatment and the possibilities of quality assessment of pre-treated surface. The experimental part deals with finding of a proper method of pre-treatment. The quality of surface pre-treatment is assessed by observation by SEM with EDS and by single lap shear tests of adhesive joints. According to evaluated results, the optimalised methods are qualitatively and financially compared with the commercial method.

Buday, Patrik ; Wasserbauer, Jaromír (referee) ; Buchtík, Martin (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the effect of surfactants on mechanical properties and structure of Ni-P coatings on AZ91 magnesium alloy. The theoretical part of the thesis includes summary of basic knowledge about magnesium alloys, surfactants and electroless deposition of Ni-P coatings, including a detailed description of Ni-P reduction on substrate. The theoretical part is concluded by current research in the field of Ni-P coatings. In the experimental part, morphology of Ni-P coatings was observed by electron microscopy (SEM). Using a light microscope (LM), the effect of surfactants on the deposition rate was observed. By means of energy dispersion analysis, the average phosphorus content of Ni-P coatings was determined. The hardness as a mechanical property of these coatings was determined using a micro hardener.

This master’s thesis is focused on corrosion resistance of nickel-phosphorus coatings on magnesium alloy AZ91. In the theoretical part is summarized current knowledge about magnesium alloys and electroless deposition of Ni-P coatings including ongoing reactions. Theoretical part also lists all substances contained in the nickel bath and their specific use there. In the second half of theoretical part are discussed corrosion and immersion tests. Theoretical part is ended by review aimed towards the research in areas of immersion tests. Experimental part describes individual steps of pretreatment on magnesium alloy and then deposition of the Ni-P coating. Composition and morphology of deposited Ni-P coating and magnesium alloy were studied using energy dispersive spectroscopy. Experiment part also contains list of experiments trying to figure out ideal thickness of low-phosphorus coating which is able to protect magnesium alloy from corrosion. Master’s thesis is ended with the list of immersion tests and results which outcomes from them.
Preparation of Mg-Ti based bulk materials via powder metallurgy
Žilinský, Martin ; Wasserbauer, Jaromír (referee) ; Březina, Matěj (advisor)
The aim of this thesis is preparation and characterization of bulk Mg–Ti based materials. In the first theoretical part properties of base materials and the complexity of preparation alloy from these metals is discussed. Second part is focused on powder metallurgy and its applicability on Mg–Ti system. In another part particle composites are described. In chapter current research another possible methods of alloy preparation from magnesium and titanium are mentioned. The experimental part of this thesis was the preparation of bulk Mg–Ti materials from metal powders. For sample preparation conventional methods of powder metallurgy and spark plasma sintering was employed. Furthermore a characterisation of these materials was done. Microstructure was observed. Present phases were found using X-ray diffraction analysis. Amounts of these phases were determined using a scanning electron microscope with energy–dispersive spectrometry and using X-ray fluorescence. Furthermore hardness was measured and bending test with evaluation was done. Significant difference in results of sample preparation using conventional methods of powder metallurgy and spark plasma sintering was observed.

Buchtík, Martin ; Fintová, Stanislava (referee) ; Wasserbauer, Jaromír (advisor)
The aim of this diploma thesis was summary of all steps and knowledge necessary to deposition of quality Ni-P coatings deposited on wrought magnesium alloys AZ31 and AZ61. There is the treatise about wrought magnesium alloys AZ31 and AZ61. Thesis includes its phase composition in the theoretical part. There are given its possible processing methods too. Next, there is desribed the mechanism of deposition of Ni-P coatings, components required to electroless deposition and factors affecting the quality and properties of these coatings. The theoretical part is ended by serie of reviews. Authors of these reviews deal with pretreatment of substrates, preparation, characterization and measuring of mechanical, structure and corrosion properties of deposited coatings. The optimalization of pretreatment, parametres and composition of nickel bath suitable for magnesium alloys is described in experimental part. The microstructure, present interlayer between substrate and Ni-P coating and chemical composition of deposited coatings was observed and measured by optical and electron microscopy. The mechanical characterization of Ni-P coatings was performed by microhardness tester.
Optimization of surface pretreatment of steel and aluminum alloy for subsequent application of powder paint
Běloch, Martin ; Březina, Matěj (referee) ; Wasserbauer, Jaromír (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with various procedures of surface pretreatment of steel and aluminum alloy for subsequent application of powder coating substance. The work begins with an overview of the general characteristics of the materials used. The core part of the work is then a summary of the individual methods of pretreatment that can be used to modify the material surface. A special chapter is devoted to methodologies for the application of powder substances. Before separate application, the sample must first be carefully pretreated to ensure removal of organic compounds (e.g. oils from primary processing - grinding, cutting), or dust impurities to ensure the correct barrier effect. After dividing the individual methods of surface preparation, a powder paint system with a total thickness of approximately 50 µm is applied to the test material. Samples with different surface pretreatments will be compared both in terms of mechanical properties and in terms of electrochemical properties.
