Worcamp Liminality, or There and Back Again (and the extraordinary experiences that happen in between)
Sedláčková, Tereza ; Grygar, Jakub (advisor) ; Horák, Vít (referee)
Bachelor thesis "Workcamp Liminality, or There and Back Again (and the extraordinary experiences that happen in between)" deals with initiation in contemporary society. It elaborates on initiation of transition between childhood and adulthood, which is made possible through the secular rituals of transition. A research on one workcamp is used to analyse this type of initiation. Three-phase concept rites de passage of Arnold van Gennep, focusing on the middle, liminal, stage and its course as described by Victor Turner is used in the analysis. The aim of this paper is to outline some examples of travelling, which may take the form of rites de passage, and through research on one specific workcamp show that it is possible to encounter the liminal and initiating characteristics of travelling there. According to the theories of Victor Turner emergence of communitas is perhaps the clearest indication of liminal stage (or rite de passage and initiation). Turner's understanding of communitas is very important especially for the empirical part of the text. Methodological work is based on participant observation in the field and semi-structured interviews with workcamp participants conducted during the workcamp. This work shows that under specific circumstances, the workcamp environment can facilitate...
Place of spiritual sexuality in personal development in contemporary Czech Republic
Termerová, Tereza ; Spalová, Barbora (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Tereza (referee)
The text deals with the somatic modes of attention from the point of view of practitioners of a spiritually sexual practice in contemporary Czech Republic. The author discusses the changes in the experience, action and intentionality through the culturally constituted bodily modes of attention involved in this practice. The topic is embedded in the research of sexuality in the social sciences, sexual discourses and mainly in the phenomenological perspective and methodology of somatic modes of attention of Thomas J. Csordas (1993). The various dimensions of this bodily practice, with additional attention paid to the changes in intentionality of practitioners, are studied using qualitative research performed as a combination of field research and in-depth, biographical interviews.

The clash of hyperobjects: plastic oceans strike back
Kvizda, Jakub ; Tremčinský, Martin (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Tereza (referee)
Ocean plastics permeate ever deeper into the lives of a growing number of humans and nonhumans and as such present an enormous environmental problem. However, its form is not self-evident, as well as the fact that we speak of a problem at all. In this paper, therefore, I trace processes of reality enactment of ocean plastics that were and still continue to be performed in many practices (e.g. scientific or activist), and their framing as a problem. With the help of Bruno Latour's concept of collective, I put the emergence of the whole problem into historical context. Ocean plastics were for many years of their gradual accumulation not visible, leading to their growth into a massive and dangerous hyperobject. It was registered by work of many particular practices thanks to which we have gradually learned to see ocean plastics. However, this was not merely a neutral discovering of their reality - this reality was being in these practices variously enacted which had as an effect its multiplication. Thus, I analyze realities forming within three projects - The Ocean Cleanup, Wasteland, Adidas x Parley - including mutual negotiations about ontology and aesthetics (sensual perception) of the problem that make possible speaking of a single ocean plastics problem. Its important part is an imaginary. Most...

Flow Arts: Flow state as a trance practice in western societies
Mikešová, Eva ; Spalová, Barbora (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Tereza (referee)
My bachelor thesis is mainly focused on Flow Arts phenomenon and so-called flow state, which is induced by these practices. The goal is to detect not only individual experiences of flow artists, but also the processes influencing the flow state. To achieve this goal, I use the analysis of field diary and nine biographic interviews. I consider the flow state to be an altered state of consciousness and in dialogue with study of neo-shamanic practice (Horská 2017) I try to do a complex analysis of the dynamics of the flow state and the partial aspects of the flow arts practices. This analysis focuses on the key processes (learning process & automation of the body movement process) related to induction of the flow state, where consciousness plays the key role. These processes allow mastering techniques of the body (Mauss 1968) and are necessary for inducing the flow state. Therefore, the main subject of this analysis are these two key aspects of flow arts - body and physicality. Also, my analysis focuses on the structures that are formed alongside the flow arts practices. I suggest to call these structures "interest network" or "community of interest" as they represent a place to share any knowledge or skill, which is important for learning the body techniques.
Lived epilepsy: management of disease and embodied knowledge
Sedláčková, Tereza ; Hrešanová, Ema (advisor) ; Kabele, Jiří (referee)
The thesis deals with the lived everyday practice of patients with epileptic seizures and the types of knowledge they are working with in relation to seizures. Particular attention is paid to patients' embodied knowledge as the practical knowledge based on the experience of epileptic seizures and their bodies in general. The thesis shows how the types of knowledge (such as triggers, auras, forms of seizures or their management) are based on, created and learnt through the embodiment. Lifestyle regimens associated with seizure management are introduced as a link between general recommendations and individual regimens, with seizure management being negotiated with regard to other aspects of patient life. While adhering to management, there is some communication, cooperation and negotiation between the patient and his body. Finally, other forms of knowledge about seizures are outlined, such as those created by people close to the patient and those created by assistance dogs. (Furthermore), it is also explained what these forms of knowledge mean to the patient and how to work with them.
I eat, therefore I am: the construction of foodbloggers identity
Sedláčková, Tereza ; Pavlíčková, Tereza (advisor) ; Zábrodská, Kristina (referee)
The main research question of this thesis deals with identity of foodbloggers, constructed through the content posted on their foodblogs. This work shows through research of eight foodblogs what forms of identity these foodblogs take. The foodbloggers are treated as members of the foodie community in this thesis, because their blogs reflect its values, such as emphasis on the element of sharing, food quality, authenticity and story of the food and its serving. Foodbloggers identity, reflected on their blogs, has been studied mainly in terms of self-presentation, narrative strategies and approaches to sharing their privacy with the blogs readers. These three aspects are constantly negotiated in every interaction between bloggers and readers of their blogs. This negotiation determines the final form of foodblogs. Narrative strategies of these analyzed foodblogs for example take the form of family atmosphere and cooking for the family, self-realization through cooking and blogging, making friendships, minimalist style without a personal narrative, a friend with sharing conjoint interests or invitation to the blogger's personal life. Furthermore, the identity was examined through the questions whether and how the blog authors think about themselves as (food)bloggers.
