Angiogenesis Promoters Determination in the Intraocular Fluid by Means of Multiplex Immunoanalysis
Rusňák, Štěpán ; Raiskup, Frederik (advisor) ; Řehák, Jiří (referee) ; Kolář, Petr (referee)
The objective of the project was to find out whether patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) can be stratified by means of multiplex immunoanalysis - i.e. whether in patients with complicated clinical finding a difference in concentration of selected biomarkers can be found in comparison with patients without complications. Multiplex analysis was used to determine angiogenic, anti-angiogenic and inflammatory cytokines in 59 samples of intraocular fluid aspirated from anterior chamber of PDR patients and 51 cataract patients control samples. The results for patients without complications were compared with patients in the terminal stage of therapeutically unmanageable neovascular glaucoma due to proliferative diabetic changes. It was found that patient stratification according to clinical severity of PDR correlates with pro- angiogenic cytokine concentration in the intraocular fluid. Furthermore, several additional cytokines were found the levels of which were elevated in the intraocular fluid of PDR patients compared to the control group. Patients with clinically more severe finding had higher levels of pro-angiogenic cytokines in the intraocular fluid. Determining pro-angiogenic cytokine concentrations by the means of multiplex analysis is of importance when clinical findings show...
The occurence of ocular disorders in patients with Turner syndrome
Brunnerová, Renáta ; Raiskup, Frederik (advisor) ; Baráková, Drahomíra (referee) ; Autrata, Rudolf (referee)
The occurrence of ocular disorders in patients with Turner syndrome Turner syndrome is among the most common chromosomal aberrations. It is caused by a missing or structural anomaly of one X chromosome, alternatively a chromosomal mosaicism. It is often connected with a more frequent occurrence of some ocular diseases. In our study 81 girls and women with Turner syndrome from the age of 5 to 23 years old were repeatedly examined. The occurrence of ocular diseases and their possible connection with karyotype was the main focus of our attention. Myopia (29 %) had the highest incidence in these girls, further there were hyperopia (24 %), epicanthus (20 %), colour vision deficiency (17 %), amblyopia (12 %), strabismus (10 %) and ptosis (5 %). Colour vision deficiency was defined as protanopia in 8.5 %, deuteranopia in 3.4 % and tritanopia in 5.2 %. The occurrence of colour vision deficiency was higher than in the general population where it differs in sexes. It is more often found in men. It is connected with the gene location for the red and green photo pigment which is localized on the long arm of the X chromosome. The occurrence of strabismus and ptosis was higher than in the general population. The total range of refractive errors was slightly higher than in the general population, with a different...

Summary: Treatment of keratoconus using Accelerated Corneal Cross-Linking Aim: This study evaluates the efficacy of treatment of progressive keratoconus using Accelerated Corneal Cross-linking (ACXL) method. Methods: The study included 35 eyes of 32 patients, who underwent ACXL at the Deparment of Ophthalmology of University Hospital in Hradec Králové. Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected distance visual acuity (BCVA), flat and steep keratometry (K1, K2), maximum keratometry (Kmax), corneal astigmatism and corneal pachymetry in the thinnest location were measured preoperatively and in 6 months, 1 year and 2 years after the surgery. Results: There was not found the statistically significant difference between preoperative and postoperative values of UCVA, BCVA, K1 and Kmax. Steep keratometry (K2) and corneal astigmatism was statistically significant decreased. The pachymetry in the thinnest location was preoperatively 469 ± 33 μm. The value was statistically significant decreased in 6 month and 1 year after the surgery by comparison with preoperative value. 2 yaers postoperatively there was not the statistically significant difference by comparison with preoperative value. Conclusion: Our results in patients with progressive keratoconus found ACXL is an effective and safe method to treat...

SOUHRN Modifikace léčby progredujícího keratokonu zesíťováním kolagenu rohovky pomocí riboflavinu a UVA záření. Úvod: Cílem mé práce je porovnání modifikace léčby progredujícího keratokonu zesíťováním kolagenu rohovky pomocí riboflavinu a UVA záření. Metodika: Soubor retrospektivní studie zahrnuje celkem 35 očí 28 pacientů, kteří podstoupili na našem pracovišti corneal cross-linking. Soubor tvoří dvě skupiny. Skupina A zahrnuje 15 očí s abrazí epitelu rohovky v dolní polovině velikosti 8 mm.
