The diploma project is looking for common feature and oportunities how to act in developing new public spaces at that areas from concept of whole city to single public space.

The aim of this paper is to compare the number of pedestrians in individual directions of street, the total number of pedestrians and the walking speed in three selected locations of the pedestrian zone in Brno’s historical centre. This will be done in order to verify the dependence of pedestrian walking speed on the character of the selected location. This article compares the acquisition of this data both empirically and by digital data collection using a data logger via a Wi-fi signal from the mobile phones of public space users. The outputs are presented as graphs comparing times and measured data from all case studies, complete with comparisons to the digital method.

Urban spaces hold a lot of essential public functions and play an irreplaceable role in the operating of a modern city. Therefore, monitoring their quality in relation to social needs and the way of its utilization are very important. There are some empirical methods suitable for long-term observation based on direct observation of users’ behaviour in a space that require a rather high number of researchers and are time-consuming. The most frequently used empirical methods for studying public life are the monitoring of pedestrian movement, the monitoring of traffic movement, path tracking and the monitoring of people movement intensity based on the local amenities.
Vyhodnocování dat o kvalitě veřejných prostranství

The way of the evaluating of a data from the survey for the quality of public spaces and its display can influence the interpretation of the conclusion. Currently, data collection takes place in two basic ways - from publicly available databases and in situ observations. This article describes a methodology for presenting and evaluating data acquired for this purpose. The contribution of the presented methodology is demonstrated on the case study of the square Jakubské náměstí in Brno, including the determination of the boundary conditions of individual imaging methods.
Multikriteriální hodnocení v urbanismu

The review article deals with the use of multi-criteria decision-making process in urban planning practice as a decision tool in making choices of multiple variations of possible urban development. Various methods are described in relation to the chosen topic of the dissertation thesis which is assessment of quality of public spaces. The aim of this article is to choose specific method applicable to the evaluation of the quality of public spaces in the Central European context based on the description of the various methods, their current use and the system of calculating.
