Habitat preferences of red deer and sika deer in the Doupov Mts.
Löwe, Radim ; Ježek, Miloš (advisor) ; Husinec, Václav (referee)
This master thesis is focused on GPS telemetry of red deer (Cervus elaphus) and sika deer (Cervus nippon) in the Doupov Mts., the Czech republic. Positional data from 14 red deer does and 2 sika deer does was collected during the study period of April 2013 to February 2016. The main aim was to determine habitat preferences of does with the use of the very precise vertical differentiation of vegetation created by air laser scanning of the surface (LiDAR technology). The study examines the dependence of the average maximum height of vegetation nearby positions of does on the time of year and time of day. For the evaluation was used two-way factorial analysis of variance. The highest average height of the vegetation nearby does was found during the day and the lowest during the night. Does of red deer and sika deer occurred in open habitats particularly at night, where they were actively seeking for food and more closed habitats with higher vegetation during the day, where they could hide themselves. Focusing on a period of the year, the height of vegetation in the summer period without hunting was significantly lower than in the summer period with hunting. This could be caused by starting hunting season but also it might be a response to reduced quality of available grass by aging. The two does of sika deer were treated individually. Significant differences were revealed between both does. However they both were occupying habitats with the lowest height of vegetation at night during the rut season. The gained results can now be used to supplement information about ethology of red deer and sika deer. The comprehensive knowledge of ethology can be directly used in the management of these two species, particularly for hunting efficiency and subsequent reduction of their population numbers, particularly in the case of sika deer. However these results can be directly used in forest management in active protection of forest stands against damage by wild game.
Habitat preference of red deer and sika deer in the Doupov Mts.
Silovský, Václav ; Ježek, Miloš (advisor) ; Zdeněk, Zdeněk (referee)
The bachelor thesis is focused on habitat preferences of red deer (Cervus elaphus) and sika deer (Cervus nippon nippon). The objective of study was to determine, which types of landscape the red deer (Cervus elaphus) and sika deer (Cervus nippon nippon) prefer during the year. Study area is located in northwest Bohemia in Doupov mountains. Data were collected by GPS telemetry from 13 stags and 13 hinds of red deer, and 6 stags and 2 hinds of sika deer during the days between 19th September 2010 and 8th February 2015. From GPS telemetry we received a total of 176982 red deer pozitions and other 38932 sika deer pozitions. Analyzed home ranges have shown main preferences of male and female red deer to shrubbery and natural grasses. Males of sika had main preferences to shrubbery and mixed forest during the year. Sika females have preferred shrubbery and natural grasses. The bachelor thesis results provided very interesting information of red and sika deer ecology and could be used in future game management or when creating a new emerging legislation, especially in the area of minimum hunting grounds quantities.
Analysis of rent for state hunting grounds in the Czech republic
Baierl, Maximilián ; Ježek, Miloš (advisor) ; Divišová, Michaela (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the evaluation of rent hunting grounds in property by the Forests of the Czech Republic. The literature search is the theoretical basis for the practical part. At first the literature search deals with history of hunting in the Czech Republic to the present. It chronologically defines legislation, describes wildlife conservation and hunting in our area. Also describes game species that can be hunted or not and the control after being hunted. Can not forget an essential part of thesis, which defines the deer park, hunting grounds, their establishment and legal delimination. The author also deals with the issue of hunting management. This is essential for sustainable conditions of animal in the wild. The next chapter is about administrative conditions of hunting. which must be met for the possibility to hunting. Another chapter is devoted to the government of hunting, which is important for management of hunting and its control. Then the work deals with specific rules of the tender for lease of hunting grounds from Forests of the Czech Republic. Here are discussed some conditions of successful login into the tender, the process itself and the evaluation of offers. At the end of a literature search there are compared some foreign countries with Czech republic and their eventual differences in hunting. It was also necessary to collect and compile some data from the website of the Forests of the Czech Republic, especifically name, number, acreage and the type of hunting ground, amount of the bail, the winner of the tender and price for renting a hunting ground without VAT. This data was statistically evaluated according to forest administrations and regions and then described.
Microhabitat preference of male red deer in the Doupov Mts.
Hojer, Miloslav ; Ježek, Miloš (advisor) ; Mrkvičková Kořanová, Diana (referee)
This thesis deals with the matter of using research microhabitat preferences male red deer ( Cervus elaphus ) in Doupov mountains and compares its telemetry data with telemetric data male sika deer Japanese ( Cervus nippon nippon ) . Using GPS navigation has been searched for each of 267 points and examined for each of them measuring. The data were processed into electronic form and are evaluated by using charts and tables. From the data I figured what microhabitat environments in these two species of deer in the summer months most moving and what kind of habitat they prefer . Interesting is certainly the fact that even though their home ranges overlap do not have the same grazing habits.
Microhabitat preference of male red deer in the Doupov Mts.
Vlasák, Tomáš ; Ježek, Miloš (advisor) ; Kušta, Tomáš (referee)
My work engages problems of microhabitat preference of male red deer (Cervus elaphus). Location of research was occured in the Military Training Area Hradiště on the forest administration district Dolní Lomnice in the Doupovské Mts. Research was conducted using a GPS device. The first part of bachelor thesis is focused on literary analysis as a description, biology, ethology and damage by red deer on the forest stands. The second part of bachelor thesis is research itself. Home range size was calculated from winter and summer habitats. Monitored male red deer prefered visibility to the south. The lowest visibility was found to the west. During the day occurrence of hunting facilities is minimum in winter and summer periods. Greater occurrence of hunting facilities was only found in the night and morning time in the winter. Collected data were analyzed using graphs and tables, which are situated in the final part of this bachelor thesis.
The effect of supplementary winter feeding on the wildlife forest damages
Strnad, Martin ; Ježek, Miloš (advisor) ; Adámková, Jana (referee)
Abstract The work deals with the influence of the winter feeding on the amount of damage to forests caused by game in Šumava area farmed by the state enterprise Lesy České republiky (Forests of the Czech Republic), forest enterprise Boubín, forest district Kubova Huť. The aim was processing a literature review on the topic of harm wildlife and processing its own investigation regarding the evaluation of the development of damage to forests, depending on winter feeding and its localization. The first part is introduction to the general problems of dealing with the kind of damage caused by game, the possibilities of influencing of damage caused by game, evidence of damage caused by game, the legislative framework for the application of game damages to the user of the hunting ground and the consequences of damage caused by game. The second part is focused on the investigation of damage caused by game in selected locations. It was selected two adjacent hunting grounds in the selected area of a similar nature and properties. In the first hunting ground were selected three feeding sites and in the second hunting ground other two feeding sites. Around each location was determined by a circle with a radius of one kilometre and using a map portal comprise forests within this sector in the table. For each crop was determined actual age, the percentage of crop damage and the distance from feeding place. Data for damage based on the summaries damage to forests in Forest enterprise Boubín, forest district Kubova Huť and from 2010 to 2014. The statistical method, using the statistical software STATISTICA 10th 0., the data were evaluated and put into final tables and chapters. The basic hypothesis was based on the question of whether the damage caused by wild animals increase with bigger distance from the feeding sites. The results did not confirm this hypothesis. Conversely, the damages caused by animals increased with reduced distance from the feeding sites. Neither the size of the crop affects the amount of damage caused by game. Knowledge about the occurrence of damage caused by game depends on the distance from feeding sites may be important for better selection and number of sites for animal feeding. Key words European red deer (Cervus elaphus), feeding, harm wildlife
Spatial activity of wild boar in the Doupov Mts.
Šácha, Zdeněk ; Ježek, Miloš (advisor) ; Otakar, Otakar (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to evaluate the spatial activity of wild boar (Sus scrofa L.) in the Doupov Mountains. The Doupov Mountains are unique landscape for research of free living wild animal adaptation on environmental changes and reaction on human pressure. There are military area, where the entrance for public is restricted. The area cover more than 35 000 ha and there are uniform system of forest, agriculture and hunting management. Therefore we can study easily the impact of hunting there. Data were collected by GPS telemetry from 3 females and 1 males of wild boar. We used GPS telemetry for tracking wild boar during the December 2013 and December 2014. We analyzed the tracks of wild boar during the season, the size of home ranges, and the activity during 24 hour period. The results shown on significant nocturnal behavior by wild boar male during whole year, and by wild boar females during autumn, winter and beginning of spring. But the activity is changing after the birth of juvenile, when the females are active during the daytime. The bachelor thesis results provided very interesting information from wild boar ecology, but the study should be continue due to short time of GPS observation.
