Properties of commercially available, ready-to-use mortars for restoration of historic renders and masonry
Janotová, Dana ; Niedoba, Krzysztof ; Gláser, Petr ; Šašek, Petr ; Fabeš, Roman
There is a wide range of premixed, dry mortars, on the market, designed with the reconstruction of historic renders and masonry in mind. The use of such materials has some advantages, including good workability and standard quality, however, due to unknown composition, being a secret of a manufacturer, it is frequently impossible to predict their influence on the substrate and on the ageing. If the ready-to-use mortar is to be applied during the renovation of the historic masonry, it is necessary to know: how close the mortars’ properties match the properties of the original material; will the repair be durable enough and will it degrade faster than the original material. Technical information, provided by the manufacturer, does not contain such data. The only parameters given, are the strength, porosity of hardened mortar and water vapour diffusion coefficient, however, it is not specified in which conditions these values were measured.
Preparation of plaster with increased frost resistance for repair of historic buildings
Slížková, Zuzana ; Frankeová, Dita ; Nunes, Cristiana Lara ; Janotová, Dana ; Hauková, Petra
The methodology provides basic information on the preparation and use of lime-metakaolin mortar modified with linseed oil in order to increase the resistance of the mortar to freeze-thaw cycles and durability of mortar (plaster). The mortar will be used in the field of conservation of historic constructions.

The determination of material characteristics of natural and artificial stone samples from Marian Column at Hradčany Square in Prague
Slížková, Zuzana ; Zeman, Antonín ; Petráňová, Veronika ; Viani, Alberto ; Pérez-Estébanez, Marta ; Frankeová, Dita ; Ševčík, Radek ; Mácová, Petra ; Janotová, Dana ; Hasníková, Hana ; Niedoba, Krzysztof ; Hauková, Petra
Within the survey before restoration intervention material properties of natural and artificial stones that are part of the Marian Column at Hradcany Square in Prague were determined. 15 samples were subjected to extensive instrumental analysis, whose output is not only chemical and mineralogical composition of the samples, but also the degree of degradation including a description of the porous system and the level of salinity.
A survey of the mortuary in Ostrovec at Velečín
Slížková, Zuzana ; Frankeová, Dita ; Petráňová, Veronika ; Zeman, Antonín ; Hauková, Petra ; Mácová, Petra ; Niedoba, Krzysztof ; Viani, Alberto ; Pérez-Estébanez, Marta ; Zíma, Pavel ; Janotová, Dana
This report presents the results of a survey of the mortuary object in Ostrovec by Velečín which has been selected for testing the samples of plaster developed in the project MK NAKI DF11P01OVV008 (High-performance and compatible lime mortars for extreme application in restoration, repair and preventive maintenance of architectural heritage). The survey focuses on the plinth of the morgue, where the plaster repeatedly freezes and falls off after one winter season. Causes of failure of the repairs plasters and material composition of were examined by following techniques:x-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal analysis (TG), optic and electron microscopy, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy.
Material characteristics assessment of the stone sample from the decorative vase. Technical report

Two polished petrographic thin section sized 4x11mm and 5x10 mm were examined under polarizing microscope Zeiss NU 2. Pictures were taken by Olympus T 5060 camera.
Frost resistance of lime-based mortars
Janotová, Dana ; Nunes, Cristiana Lara ; Slížková, Zuzana
The paper presents several methods for assessing frost resistance of six different lime-based mortar mixtures according to the type of binder. Specimens with three and twelve months of age were subjected to frost resistance test according to CSN 72 2452 standard. Durability of each mortar type was evaluated through mechanical strength, frost resistance coefficient, modulus of elasticity and saturation coefficient. The results obtained point out that the lime-based mortar mixtures tested can only fulfil the frost resistance standard requirements if containing a certain amount of Portland cement.
Impact of metakaolin and linseed oil addition on lime mortar characteristics
Slížková, Zuzana ; Janotová, Dana ; Nunes, Cristiana Lara ; Frankeová, Dita
.: The report presents results of testing of lime mortar laboratory specimens. Mechanical characteristics, porosity, resistance to frost and salt damage were determined and evaluated considering the chemical composition of mortars (metakaolin and linseed oil addition) as well as the age of hardened mortars.
