Heterodox Masters of Liberal Arts and Their Discussions with Thomas Aquinas
Severa, Miroslav ; Sousedík, Stanislav (advisor) ; Heider, Daniel (referee) ; Nejeschleba, Tomáš (referee)
Heterodox master of liberal arts and theirs discussions with Thomas Aquinas Mgr. Miroslav Severa Summary: The proposed thesis deals with two important issues discussed by Tomas Aquinas in connection with the averroistic controversy that occurred in the second half of the thirteenth century in Paris. The topics are On the eternity of the world and On the unity of intellect. Its author defends the position that concerning the problem On the eternity of the Word is the solution proposed by Thomas Aquinas closer to the position of heterodox masters of liberal arts then to the attitude of some orthodox theologians. The heterodox teaching On the unity of intellect is by Thomas sufficiently disproven. The doctrine of Thomas Aquinas doesn't need to always constitute an irreconcilable antithesis against the attitude of heterodox masters as it is described by some authors. The thesis also deals the two topics on the historical background of the condemnations issued by the Parisian bishop Stephan Tempier in the years 1270 and 1277. Although the heterodox masters of liberal arts are in their philosophizing strongly influenced by the Arab philosopher Averroes theirs position concerning the relationship between fides and ratio is different. Averroes says that when the conflict between reason and revelation occurs than...
Suárez's metaphysics. From the concept of being via transcendental unity to the kinds of transcendental unity
Heider, Daniel ; Sousedík, Stanislav (advisor) ; Herold, Vilém (referee) ; Mráz, Milan (referee)
The goal of the thesis is to present the metaphysical system, in its systematic origins, of the foremost representative of the period, that is frequently labeled as the second scholasticism, namely of Francis Suárez (1548-1617). The origins are represented by four basic themes that become the titles of particular sections in the thesis: The object and the nature of metaphysics, the concept of being, transcendentals and transcendental unity, and kinds of transcendental unity. In the first section the author deals with Suárez's conception of the object of metaphysics that determines the nature of Suárez's metaphysics as such. The ontological nature of metaphysics is assumed by the claim that the object of metaphysics is being inasmuch as it is real being. The formal object of metaphysics, that is determined ontologically, is connected with the Aristotelian abstraction of the third grade, according to which the peculiar feature of metaphysical investigation is the abstraction from all matter in being. The author shows that that very moment of abstraction is the means by which a metaphysician approaches his/her own formal object. However, the author claims that the appropriation of that approach, which in its diverse applications implies different types of abstraction, does not entail the disciplinary scission...

Francisco Suárez (1548-1617) and Joannes Senftleben (1648-1693) on the Possibles, Essences and Eternal Truths. The Reception of Suárez's Metaphysics in Senftlebens Philosophia Aristotelica universa'
Heider, Daniel
The paper presents the life and work of the Polish-Bohemian philosopher and theologian of the second half of the 17th century Joannes Senftleben. It focuses on his reception of Suárez's metaphysics, namely the reception of the issues of possibles, the nature of distinction between the essential and existential being of the finite beings and the question of eternal truths.
Suárez's on the transcendental Unity and the Multitude
Heider, Daniel
The paper analyses Suarez's conception of transcendental unity and multitude in his Metaphysical disputations. The conception comes out of Aristotle's apory, according to which on the one hand being is convertible with the One and on the other it is its main dividing member. The study presents Suarez's solution, which draws significantly from scotistic metaphysics.
“F. Suárez a J. Senftleben: Reification of Prime Matter“
Heider, Daniel
