Anne and Margaret, daughters of Charles IV and Elizabeth of Pomerania.
Hejlová, Veronika ; Bobková, Lenka (advisor) ; Dvořáčková, Dana (referee)
Thesis deals with daughters of Charles IV. and Elizabeth of Pomerania, Anne and Margaret. It focuses on marriage arrangements, which concern these women. Whereas the elder Anne married king of England Richard II., Margaret became a wife of less noble John III. of Zolllern, son of burgrave of Nuremberg. Distinction between these marriages may demonstrate that political interests often exceeded requirements for husband's prestigious origin and that women of the same origin could marry men of entirely different political- social status. Thesis researches circumstances under which were marriages arranged, aims, with which particular dynasties approach them, process of negotiations and realizations of weddings. From the aspect of different statuses of selected husbands, it also deals with benefits of the solemnized marriages for concerned sides. It also tries to indicate princess's life and their role in marriage policy, marriage and relationships between their husbands and original family. Keywords Elizabeth of Pomerania; Anne of Luxembourg; Margaret of Luxembourg; Charles IV.; Wenceslaus IV.; Czech kingdom; marriage policy; Richard II.; Hohenzollern
The entrapment of the Czech nobility by Pragues and Kutná Hora's patriciate in the year 1309 or eIse "there is no more harsher man than the ennoblement making ribald"
Musílek, Martin ; Žemlička, Josef (advisor) ; Dvořáčková, Dana (referee)
The historical research devoted only small focus on the entrapment of the Czech nobility. Generally, mainly the conclusions made by Josef Šusta had been taken into account. Specialists say that we have no chance to find something new in this subject of historical scholarship. Big deposits of silver were found near Kutná Hora during Václav's II rule. The hot symbiosis started up between the monarch and the tops of the patriciate. This friendship was bringing benefits to both of the sites of the symbiosis. The patriciates was able to do businesses and trades very easily, when the monarch stood by their side. In retum for this the patriciates was providing the valuable services to monarch, especially managing the royal chamber or helping in financial crisis. Helping in financial crisis became important during times of expensive and ambitious statesmanship of the last Přemysls. When the last of the Přemysls died, the prominent patriciates were starting to participate in political events that were shaking the whole kingdom. They were taking part in voting congresses, different missions; actually some of Czech pretendents tried to win the patriciates over. In these years the entrapment of the Czech nobility in Sedlec and in Prague also took place. When we evaluate the previous development, we have the question:...

The Ideal of Chivalrous Sovereign. The Case of Czech Medieval Alexandrian Epic
Rajterová, Petra ; Dvořáčková, Dana (advisor) ; Žemlička, Josef (referee)
My final thesis, based on study of primary and secondary sources, is focused on the idea of sovereign around 1300 AD. Old-Czech poem Alexandreida and German version Alexander of Ulrich von Etzenbach are used as primary repository of information. Thesis follows both of them and in their comparison shows, how the idea was formulated. Final thesis deals also with works of historians, literary historians and German studies related to its topic. The goal is not an linguistic analysis but to evaluate the poems as an historiographic source, on which we can study medieval notions of rulers and their role in society. Second main task for this final thesis is to reconstruct niveau of bohemian court surrounding King of Bohemia at the end of 13th century, where the poems were originally written. In the end, thesis describes so called "court culture" in the relation to both of Alexandrian poems and their influence in bohemia society.
Bohemia, Carinthia and Tyrol under the rule of Henry of Carinthia
Razim, Jakub ; Žemlička, Josef (advisor) ; Čechura, Jaroslav (referee) ; Dvořáčková, Dana (referee)
BOHEMIA, CARINTHIA AND TYROL UNDER THE RULE OF HENRY OF CARINTHIA (JAKUB RAZIM) ABSTRACT The aim of this dissertation is to describe the governing practice (Herrschaftspraxis) of Henry of Carinthia in Bohemia, Carinthia and, subsequently, especially in the Tyrol, in whose southern parts the power base of the Menhart dynasty was situated. The work focuses on four key features of Henry's rule - constructing consensus between ruler and elites, exploiting feudal rights, the use of mortgages, and the use of culture to project political themes. The analysis of the various power techniques used is divided into individual chapters drawing on sources previously unpublished or insufficiently explored. The first group consists of Tyrolean chancery registers (Tiroler Kanzleiregister) and accounts books (Tiroler Rechnungsbücher, alternatively Raitbücher), the second of Austrian court poetry. Following the initial introduction of the sources, bibliography and methodology used for dealing with this particular topic, the consensual context is introduced, within which the rule of Henry of Carinthia was conducted, ranging from informal consultations to deliberations of the royal council. A list of counsellors, along with short biographical sketches, is included. The third and the fourth chapters consider the role played by...
Possession ensuring of the sovereigns up to early 14th century
Friedlová, Jitka ; Dvořáčková, Dana (advisor) ; Žemlička, Josef (referee)
The aim of this work is to complete property tenure of Czech princesses and queens until the beginning of the 14th century. In connection with queens talk we about "dowry towns" formation. Under this term arises idea of the continuity of the transfer of widow's property. To be able to make such a generalization, it is necessary to study the provision of property wives of rulers from the standpoint of the previous developments, especially on the basis of diplomatic material and subsequently of narrative sources. According to the interpretation of existing proofs of property possession by princesses an queens, it will be possible to determine, whether there was a tradition of transfer of certain goods, not only towns but also movable and immovable property, rights and pecuniary pays. Obtained facts put the work into context of legal anchoring marital and widow's status. It is differentiated for these two categories, whether tenure which the queens were endowed with was the dowry, jointure or purely personal property. Mutual comparison between property tenure of female sovereigns is focused on presentation of different approaches to management of property issues with a greater or lesser degree of initiative. Keywords: Princesses and queens, dowry, jointure, widow's status, location of possession,...
Czech Branch of the Lords of Koldice at the Court of Luxembourg
Jirsík, Tobiáš ; Bobková, Lenka (advisor) ; Dvořáčková, Dana (referee)
The Lords of Colditz originally came from Meissen, which is also the location of the town and castle Colditz (Koldice). Their first contact with the Kingdom of Bohemia dates to the reign of Wenceslaw II. During the rule of the Luxembourg dynasty, they became (as counsellors) one of the pillars of their sovereigns' power. At first, they served King John of Luxembourg, and then his son and Emperor - Charles IV. Besides their counselling services, Lords of Koldice often lended quite large amounts to indebted rulers. Thimo (Těma) the Elder is considered to be the first Lord of Colditz, who settled in the Kingdom of Bohemia. King John of Luxembourg gave him some goods in the northwestern part of Bohemia (the most important of them was Krupka, a mining town with a castle). One of his sons, Thimo (Těma) the Younger, enlarged the domain and eventually turned his allodial property Colditz (Koldice) into a feud (1368). Thus he became a vassal of the King Wenceslaus IV. A large number of documents show that Lords of Colditz mostly stayed around the royal court. Thimo the Elder, Thimo the Younger and Albrecht held many important offices. For example sheriffs (capitaneus) of Upper Lusatia and Wrocław, master of chamber (magister camerere, head of the royal finances), and other less important offices. During the...
