Political system during Vladimír Mečiar's government and its reflection to the foreign policy

This bachelor thesis concerns the Slovak political system under the Vladimír Mečiar's government and its influence on the foreign policy. The aim of this thesis is Mečiar's authoritarianism and to analyse if there was an impact on the inner policy as well as foreign policy. It analyses the period from the beginning of the second Mečiar's era as the prime minister in 1992 to 1998 when his third government ended. The thesis is conducted in the form of a case study. In the thesis I specifically elaborate the theory of democratic consolidation written by José Juan Linz and Alfred Stepan which focuses on the democratic consolidation of political arena; then I elaborate the Fareed Zakaria's concept of illiberal democracy and additionally I study the Guillermo O'Donnell's concept of representative democracy. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to prove the democratic deconsolidation in political arena in Slovakia and to verify the validity of the theory of defective democracy on the case of Slovakia and also to describe the Slovak political isolationism which has been in my opinion too little analysed.
