Assessment of synthetic musk compounds in waste waters
Štefka, Michal ; Čáslavský, Josef (referee) ; Vávrová, Milada (advisor)
The synthetic aromatic substances are present in the products of personal hygiene, detergents and cosmetics. After the application these compounds are drained away into the waste water. But the technological process used in sewage works is not able to eliminate these substances and these ones influence the particular items of the environment. The aim of the degree work is the determination of four selected items of the linear musk compounds (2-cyclohexylethanole, Fresco Menthe, Citronellol and Isobornyl acetate) in the wastewater. The real patterns were taken on the place of affluent of the sewage discharge and on the place of the draining off in the sewage plant in VFU Brno. On the basis of measurements and subsequent evaluation on of obtaining data it was possible to express the measurement of efficiency of the elimination of the present musk compounds. Firstly it was necessary to adapt the selected analytical method to the physical and chemical qualities of the prescribed analytes. The analytes were extracted from the patterns by the method of the micro extraction for the consistent phase so called solid phase microextraction (SPME). The gas chromatography in the tandem connection with the mass spectrometry makes the identification and quantification possible.
Zinc and its compounds
Štefka, Michal ; Kábelová, Božena (referee) ; Pilátová, Ivana (advisor)
The aim of the degree work is the preparation of three consecutive zinc compounds. The theoretical part of the work deals with the most common physical properties of some inorganic compounds of this element. These are especially those compounds that are prepared as intermediates or products in accordance with the instructions set out in the Annex to this degree work. In the experimental part is on the basis of that training described the actual behavior of zinc compared to that provided by general behavior contained in the books and there are presented procedures best saited to the conditions of preparation of individua compounds.
Surfactants in Surface and Waste Water
Štefka, Michal ; Vávrová, Milada (referee) ; Chýlková, Jaromíra (referee) ; Kráčmar, Stanislav (referee) ; Čáslavský, Josef (advisor)
This work is focused on the occurrence of surface-active substances in the environment. It deals with the development and optimization of methods for the determination of selected surfactants in samples from rivers and from influent and effluent of wastewater treatment plants. Representatives of anionic, nonionic and zwitterionic surfactants were selected as target compounds. Based on optimization of analytical methods and their pilot testing abroad on samples of surface water, the selection of analytes for the conditions in the Czech Republic were corrected and operatively expanded. For the final analysis liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry was used. Analysis of cationic surfactants was realized using liquid chromatograph with UV-VIS detector. This optimized method for analysis of anionic surfactants was applied to real samples. Samples of surface running water were from the River Thurso in Scotland and then from watercourses in the catchment area of Moravia river were collected. In addition to the grab sampling also continuous weekly sampling of water from Tvaroženský potok and Litava was realized. Waste water was collected at inflow and outflow of three wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) in South Moravia (Brno – Modřice, Břeclav and Hodonín).
