A Garbage in a Circle: Potential of the Artefacts from the Rondel in Prague-Ruzyně
Blažková, Tereza ; Popelka, Miroslav (advisor) ; Řídký, Jaroslav (referee)
This thesis is focused on research of the rondel (circular ditch) located in the Prague- -Ruzyně area, dated to Late Neolithic Era with the Stroked Pottery culture. Quantitative, qualitative and spatial analysis of rondel's object fillings were carried out and the results and interpretation are presented in this thesis. Particularly thanks to Stroke-ornamented pottery analysis, it was possible to determine the relative chronology of the ditches filling. The interpretation of the material analysis and material spatial distribution tried to describe the trends associated with the formative processes and the development of origin of the ditches fillings. This work brings the results of processing of archeological findings and field documentation of a fully explored rondel, situated in the settlement of the Stroked Pottery culture. This work contributes to the understanding of Late Neolithic settlement structure and the rondels in general. Catalogue of findings is included. KEY WORDS: Late Neolithic - Stroked Pottery culture - Circular ditch - spatial analysis - formation processes - pottery - lithics - daub - animal skeletal remains
The Structure and the Chronology of Stroked Pottery Culture Settlements in Eastern Bohemia
Burgert, Pavel ; Řídký, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Popelka, Miroslav (referee) ; Vávra, Miloš (referee)
The Structure and the Chronology of Stroked Pottery Culture Settlements in Eastern Bohemia; This work covers the period of the Stroked Pottery Culture (5100/5000 - 4500/4400 cal BC) in a spatial context that in accordance with the current territorial administrative division corresponds to the Pardubice and the Hradec Králové Regions (Central Europe, Czech Republic). It describes and compares the forms and the composition of the two adjacent areas of Neolithic settlements. Attention is focused primarily on the Hradec Králové area, where two main sites are being studied, i.e. Jaroměř and Plotiště nad Labem. Through analysis of the archaeological material and contextualisation of the results within the wider framework of the Eastern part and subsequently also the entire area of Bohemia it is seeking to identify the hierarchical structure of the settlement. On the basis of the documents of remote distribution it also seeks to identify within this structure any evidence of the presence of groups or individuals with exceptional social status.
The Stroked pottery site in Kolín-Hluboký důl
Vašinová, Michaela ; Popelka, Miroslav (advisor) ; Řídký, Jaroslav (referee)
This thesis deals with new found neolithic settlement in Kolín, which is dated from Neolithic - Stroked Pottery Culture. On the site were found also the Lengyel Culture imports. The thesis brings the results of the pottery and the chipped industry analyses. The relative chronology of the settlement and some pits was based upon the pottery analysis. There were some settlement pits, which were situated outside and inside the circle, and circular ditch chosen for it. Marginally is here solved the question of interpretation of the function of objects and intercultural relations. The work brings especially the findings about next neolithic site with circular ditch and Lengyel culture imports in Bohemia. The Neolithic site with graves in Hrobčice, Distr. of Teplice (excavations 2011)
Rauerová, Martina ; Popelka, Miroslav (advisor) ; Řídký, Jaroslav (referee)
This work deals with the archaeological research that was done in 2011 in Hrobčice (district Teplice). Based on the dating of archaeological material was found settlement continuity from the Linear Pottery culture in the turn of Neolithic and Eneolithic. The findings can be generally classified into prehistory of Neolithic Linear Pottery culture, Stroked Pottery culture (the older, the early and late phase), in the turn Neolithic and Eneolithic. A few of ceramic fragments are probably from Eneolithic, Eneolithic-Bronze and Modern Age. From 19 objects were collected ceramic and stone industry (especially chipped stone industry of quartzite type Skršín), daub, pigment, human and animal bones (including the shell). From ceramic finds is interesting group Malice cup, from stone industry Bavarian banded chert. On the test site were also found two graves, atypical was especially grave in the building 3/11 (dead were stored in a non-anatomical position with a red dye).
Rondels and the structure of settlement areas in the late neolithic period
Řídký, Jaroslav ; Popelka, Miroslav (advisor) ; Zápotocká, Marie (referee) ; Pavlů, Ivan (referee)
The Neolithic in the wider area of Central Europe and especially its later period (4 900- 4 500) is represented by one type of feature, the building of which demanded not only complex knowledge of mathematics and astronomy, as many researches have stressed out, but also necessary organizational skills based on a long-term plan. In the context of the Czech Republic, these features or complexes of features ( ditch and pallisade) are called rondels or circle ditched features. The traces of rondels construction and accessible literature make it possible to compare several variables of rondel s, namely the ground plan shapes, the number of V -shaped ditches and inner pallisades. the number and position of individua! entrances. Different entrance shapes represent another important variable in the forms of rondels. Most published sources provide information about the maximum and minimum diameter of the whole complex, the measures of individua! ditches are mentioned only rarely. Sometimes, the maximum width and depth of individua! ditches are recorded. Similar information is recorded about the pallisades ditches. Unfortunatelly, only very few basic and often quoted sources mention the spatial structure of the settlement with a rondel as well as the description of the surrounding area with chronologically co-...
