Fingerspelling: Teacher's strategies when educating Deaf children in the preschool period

This bachelor thesis deals with various fingerspellings and strategies of their usage as we can find in home and foreign literature. Then it focused on using them in education system in kindergarten for kids with a hearing impairment. The goal of my thesis is to introduce selected strategies and put them in the right conceptual framework. Then describe their forms with benefits and limits of their use. I look at this issue in wider context and also with aspects of history. Part of this thesis is analysis of education programs of six Czech kindergartens for kids with a hearing impairment. This analysis focuses on using fingerspelling in teaching community that works with kids with a hearing impairment. The final apprenticeship exam according to a unified assignment - a description of the current state in selected secondary vocational schools for the Deaf in the Czech Republic

This bachelor thesis focuses on the final exam which was, in 2014/2015, unified for all the graduates of secondary schools providing secondary education with apprenticeship certificate. The point of this thesis is to analyze said final exam in certain hand-picked secondary vocational schools as well as some vocational schools for the Deaf. Furthermore, this study deals with the process of applying this mandatory unified assignment, how the individual needs of a student are met, how the supporting measures fit in and how the traditional approach affects these changes. In the second part, the research survey, the method of content analysis of curricular documents (framework educational programmes and school educational programmes), observation during final exam and semi-structured interviews with teachers has been used. Vocational Orientation of the Deaf Pupils

The main goal of the bachelor thesis is to learn about vocational orientation of deaf pupils in their last years of study at selected elementary schools for the Deaf and to compare the results to results of similar studies done with pupils without hearing impairment. Based on relevant scientific sources, the paper introduces general aspects that shape vocational orientation, also describes vocational development on D. E. Super's Career Development Theory. The thesis continues with characterizing aspects that shape vocational orientation, but are specific for deaf pupils who attend elementary schools for the Deaf, e.g. Deaf identity, Deaf culture, attitudes of the majority towards deaf people, the language and information barrier and the educational system for deaf pupils in the Czech Republic, including a depiction of the concept of vocational training at schools for the Deaf. Based on an analysis of the curricular documents and information provided by teachers, the paper also describes the concept of vocational training at three selected schools for the Deaf. These schools were then visited and their 9th and 10th grade students were presented with a questionnaire mapping their educational and vocational aspirations. This bachelor thesis focuses on hidden subtitles in the Czech feature films on DVD for deaf audience. According to Act. No. 249/2006 distributors have been obliged to provide DVD media with the Czech feature films with subtitles for deaf audience. The aim of the thesis is to compare this legal regulation with the legislative status in selected European and non-European countries as well as to map out the observance of this Czech legal obligation according to the basis of the DVD production analysis from years 2007-2016 and finally to define the prevailing strategies that are in place for creating subtitles for deaf audience on DVDs in the Czech Republic. Hearing dogs - Assistive devices for the Deaf?

The bachelor thesis deals with hearing dogs. The reader is introduced to the categories of dogs employed in the socio-medical field, is described in detail special training of hearing dogs, attention is also focused on financing and related legislation. For comparison, it is briefly mentioned situation abroad (in the USA, in the Great Britain and in Slovakia). Special attention is paid to communicate with a dog, especially for hand signals and an explanation of the difference between them and isolated signs from Czech sign language. The practical part contains chapters focused on passportization of dogs which are employed in the socio-medical field in the Czech Republic, a survey among persons with hearing loss who own a dog without special assistance/hearing training and a case study about one hearing dog used by person with hearing loss. In my diploma thesis I deal with the problematic of people with hearing impairment. I introduce Deaf culture to Czech theological reflection and then concrete Christian communities in the Czech Republic, where deaf people gather. I analyze specifics of these communities, what is the role of the deaf people and using of sign language. I end up with theological reflection from the perspective of people with disabilities and then I introduce specifics of theology from the perspective of the Deaf. The role of boarding schools for the Deaf in the Czech Republic - since 1786 to present days

(in English): This bachelor thesis presents the history and development of institutional care at the Czech boarding schools for the hearing impaired, as well as at the then institutes for the Deaf and dumb from 1786 to present. It describes the regime at these boarding schools, extracurricular activities of the pupils, pedagogical supervision and the schools facilities. The school regime is dealt with according to centuries. The bachelor work also brings up the issue of the Deaf communities, both home and abroad and explores the impact of the boarding schools on the community. The findings are interpreted in the light of individual development of the child staying in a boarding school, namely its impact on child's personality. The work draws data from the specialized past and present bibliography, legislative norms and other relevant documents. The final part of the bachelor thesis presents the results of the findings concerning the issue of hearing impaired children in residential care. They prove that children staying in boarding schools suffer from deprivation which is, furthermore, enhanced in case of deaf children who lack an opportunity to communicate in their mother tongue, i.e. sign language with the peers. They neither have a contact with their surrounding, nor are exposed to every day...
The identity of hard of hearing people

The bachelor thesis deals with identity of hard of hearing people. This thesis is based on the relevant scientific literature and is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The contents of the theoretical part are the identity and characteristics and clasification of elements affecting the identity of a person in general. The thesis focuses on identity formation of hard of hearing people. The practical part uses investigation to verify elements affecting hard of hearing people identity listed in the theoretical part. In the conclusion, the author summarizes the findings from both the investigation and the relevant scientific literature and formulates reccomendations, which suggest way to minimize negative elements in the process of identity forming and support healthy identity development of a hard of hearing individual.
Hearing dogs - Assistive devices for the Deaf?

This bachelor thesis deals with dogs employed in the socio-medical field, especially with assistance and hearing dogs. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part the reader is introduced to the categories of dogs employed in this field, their special training (including interested organizations) is described and last but not least appropriate legislative measures are described. Attention is also paid to the situation abroad (in the USA, Great Britain and Slovakia). Information in the theoretical part served as resource for the practical part, which is divided into two units: passportization of dogs which are employed in the socio-medical field in Czech Republic; questionnaire survey among people with hearing loss, who are owners of dogs without special assistance/hearing training. In the conclusion the author uses the previously collected data to search for an answer to a question, whether a dog (even without a special training) can be an assistive device for people with hearing loss. 7 Abstract The bachelor thesis deals with communication with Deaf, Hard of hearing and Deafened passengers in air transportation, specifically in Czech Airlines and other foreign airlines of SkyTeam alliance. The theoretical part describes communication, communicative situations and communication of people with hearing disabilities. The aim of practical part was - through a questionnaire survey among cabin crew and interviews with Deaf, Hard of hearing and Deafened passengers - to describe the current situation in this area.
