Experimental investigation of fault tolerant converter connected to unbalanced grid
Valouch, Viktor ; Šimek, Petr ; Škramlík, Jiří
A model of the three-phase voltage converter for simulation of its modes of operation in standard as wellas fault states is presented. The presented model can be used to simulate steady-states and also transients at dc and ac side of the grid-connected converter. Based on simulation, an algorithm was designed to identify and localize a fault in some phase of the three-phase converter. Rules how to modify hardware, and control and modulation strategies to hold the converter in operation after the fault are presented and tested. the algorithm was experimentally verified.
New Three Phase PLL and FLL Techniques for Converters Used in Distributed Sources
Valouch, Viktor ; Šimek, Petr ; Škramlík, Jiří
A critical comparison of three prospective PLL and FLLstrategies, namely those based on the CDSC, DSOGI, and MAF filtering techniques for elimination of noises, harmonics, and negative sequence is presented in the paper. Simulation and experimental results are compared and evaluated.
Analytical Closed-Form Solution of Current Responses of Multilevel Converter Connected to Unbalanced Grid
Škramlík, Jiří ; Šimek, Petr ; Bejvl, Martin ; Valouch, Viktor
An analytical closed-form solution of ac current responses of a multilevel converter connected to the unbalanced grid in steady state is proposed in the contribution. The method of the solution can be used for different grid filter topologies and for unsymmetrical grid voltages and/or currents to analyze easily converter current responses in steady states. Thus, a quick comparison of converters with different number of voltage levels, control strategies, switching frequencies, power flows, and grid filter parameters may be performed to optimize their performance criteria.
Power Control of Converter Connected to Unbalanced Grid
Valouch, Viktor ; Bejvl, Martin ; Šimek, Petr ; Škramlík, Jiří
The paper presents a grid current control technique at the power converter level. The object of the analysis is a control method of the positive and negative sequences of the current of a grid connected converter during voltage sags in order to assure a proper exchnge of active and reactive powers without power ripple, and to mitigate harmonic distortion of grid currents.
Current Control Techniques for Mains Connected Converters under Unbalanced Conditions
Bejvl, Martin ; Šimek, Petr ; Škramlík, Jiří ; Valouch, Viktor
Electric equipments connected to the mains usually consist of a converter, a DC intermediate circuit and an inverter. The power from the mains should be consumed with unity power factor, the mains current should be harmonics, the power flow bidirectional, and also equipment should be functional under distored mains conditions. The dual-current control of the converter has been recently developed to meet the mentioned requirements. An overview and comparison of several different control methods are presented in the paper.
Microgrid Control Techniques at Power Converter Level
Valouch, Viktor ; Šimek, Petr ; Škramlík, Jiří ; Tlustý, J.
The paper presents an overview of microgrid control techniques at the power converter level. Principles explanation and a basic comparison of main control structures and converter operation modes is carried out, focusing on: phase and frequency locked loops, droop control algorithms, converter reference current calculation, grid filter topologies and respective damping strategies, current controller schemes, harmonic elimination techniques, as well as synchronization processes needed to reconnect an islanded microgrid to an upstream one.
Control Techniques of Grid Connected PWM Rectifiers under Unbalanced Input Voltage Conditions
Bejvl, Martin ; Šimek, Petr ; Škramlík, Jiří ; Valouch, Viktor
Current-controlled voltage source converters are widely used in grid-connected applications, for example at ac drives with indirect frequency converters. The structure and parameters of the PLL are developed and proposed in order to cope with the grid containing both the positive and the negative sequence component, and minimize the wrong frequency transients during phase angle steps and also in the start-up stage. The DSC technique was realised. There is also necessary to compensate the negative sequence component in the grid voltage. The negative sequence component of the grid voltage causes ripple of the dc voltage in the intermediate circuit. Several sophisticated topologies of converter current controller were developed, simulated and tested for this purpose. Results of simulation and experimental tests are provided to evaluate different current control schemes and phase locked loop techniques.
New Hybrid Power Filter Topology and Control for Application in Industrial Networks
Pecha, I. ; Šimek, Petr ; Škramlík, Jiří ; Valouch, Viktor
The paper presents the new structure and control strategy of the Hybrid Power filter (HPF) with a split passive part. Its impedance is divided into two parts tuned to 50Hz and 250 Hz. The HPF topology is very efficient to mitigate harmonic currents especially for higher frequencies. The HPF functionality is influenced by the grid inductance changes only negligibly. The new HPF characteristics were compared with those for a standard HPF and a classic passive compensation by the simulation done in the Matlab/Simulink environment. The voltage and current values and their harmonic spectra were also measured in the real industrial plant Remarkplast, Ltd. under different conditions.
