Portuguese-Czech Dictionary of Brasilian Portuguese.Letter P, pages 886-926 from Pequeno Dicionário Brasileiro da Língua Portuguesa (p - pelechar)

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of creating a translation dictionary, which is exemplified here by translating Brazilian idioms into Czech. In the first chapter, this process is described from the theoretical point of view and focuses on the various rules that a lexicographer should adhere to while creating a dictionary. The procedures used for creating individual dictionary entries are described as well. Following the first part with a section dedicated to translated entries, the author puts the theoretical knowledge into practice. Translated Brasilierisms are based on the Pequeno Dicionário Brasileiro da Língua Portuguesa but are updated using the newer paper dictionary Dicionário Houaiss da língua portuguesa and other online resources and dictionaries. In the final chapter, the author comments on the problems she encountered while processing dictionary entries and justifies the solutions she chose for these problems. The greatest attention is paid to updating the entries from the default dictionary published in 1951. The entries were compared with entries from newer resources which resulted in the omission of some entries that had lost their geographical specificity.
